Good Morning,
A big cup of Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee is brewing as I sit down to write today. It won't be too long and that cup will be sitting next to me.
I can attest to the fact that when I have something on my mind or a decision to make I often find myself thinking about it well into the night, when I should be sleeping instead. There is a time and place for everything. But to keep us from harming ourselves, God created us to become tired.
Becoming sleepy is the first sign that it is time to stop burning the midnight oil thinking about a problem and looking for a solution.
The second sign that you're thinking about one issue too much is that other things seem to be out of your control. Too much attention is being paid to one issue.
But depriving yourself of sleep has many pitfalls. Sleep helps your body and brain function properly. A good night's sleep can improve your learning, memory, decision-making and even your creativity.
God gives us good directions to follow as far as sleep goes.
Psalm 127:1-2 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
2. In vain you rise up early or stay up late, eating the bread of sorrows., for He grants sleep to those He loves.
Proverbs 3:24 If you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you lie down your sleep will be sweet.
Turn off the television, take a bath and go to bed early praying yourself to sleep. A good night of rest sheds a different light on the situation. Better to think with a recharged body and brain.
Get some sleep! It is an expectation of God. He wired us to get tired.
Marty
