Good morning. I am enjoying a hot cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee.
This past week I was able to enjoy some beef vegetable soup. The tomatoes in the soup were harvested from our summer garden. I like eating the fruits of my labor, especially tomatoes. What I noticed about planting a garden is that whatever seed I plant is what comes up later. If I sow a bean seed I reap a bean. God is very clear on this. What you sow you shall reap.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:7-9
Sow anger, receive anger. Sow dishonesty, receive dishonesty. Sow the breaking of vows, receive broken vows. Sow fear, reap fear Sow love, reap love Sow kindness, reap kindness Sow on in peace and love for Jesus Christ.

Two are better than one. 12/30/2012
Good morning,
Where I live it is very cold today. My cup is filled with the last of my Door County Maple Coffee. I have held on to it for a day like today. I hope to find a shop that has some left. Can't wait for their fall flavors to come again.
I went out early with my two dogs Fritz and Gibbs. While they ran around, I brought in the fire wood for today. As I was stumbling through the snow with my arms full of wood I thought about a few things.
1. I am blessed to have a fire place.
2. I am blessed to have wood to burn.
3. I am blessed to have a friend who also likes to cut fire wood.
Now don't get me wrong. I really do not mind chores but the chore of cutting, splitting and stacking fire wood is often times a big chore. My friend and I enjoy doing that together, We meet at a designated spot, start the saws, cut for awhile, drink some coffee, split the wood and then load each other's vehicles. I then go home and stack the wood, many times my wife will come out to assist. My family also stacks fire wood for my Dad who needs much more of it than we do. Stacking it alone takes a few days. Anyway my point is this. It is much more enjoyable when you share tasks with others. It goes quicker and you both see the fruits of your labor. Friends enjoy friends. Help each other, share what you have. Life is too short not to. We eat a lot of stews and soup in the winter. I must say they are delicious. Even soup tastes better when eaten with someone. Enjoy the company of someone today. Share some soup, coffee, help your friend with a chore and read the Bible together.

Bible thought for a snowy day in Wisconsin 12/29/2012
Good Morning,
My cup is full of hot Door County Christmas Coffee. I pray for everyone reading this today that your day will be blessed in an unexpected way.
As I write this several things are going on around me. My house has an upstairs loft. I am sitting up in the loft at an antique desk. Two Springer Spaniels are laying on my feet and my fire place has a crackling fire going. From my vantage point I can look out a window and see the snow coming down with big flakes. My yard has a fresh blanket of snow. Underneath the snow are still a few dead leaves, some bare spots in the lawn caused from last summer's drought, and probably a couple "Springer Spaniel Land Mines" (Doggy Poop) that did not get picked up before the snow fell.
But I do not see anything but the beautiful pure white snow. You would never know what is under the snow.
Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool."
It is the same with God's forgiveness of our sins. Once we receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and ask to be forgiven of our sins, we still know the sins were there but God does not see them anymore.
This regeneration of our lives then propels us into wanting to repent of our of sins " not wanting to dirty the lawn of our life anymore". We desire a change in our life actions. The Holy Spirit then empowers us to leave our sinful ways. God and godly service become the desires of our heart. We want to love more, hate less, forgive more, lose grudges, show kindness more. Then when people look at us they do not see a sin filled lawn, they see us whiter than snow. When I look at the snow it reminds of what God desires to do for us. How about it? Will you ask God for a heart blizzard today?

Flying South with Encouragement 12/28/2012
Hebrews 10:25
not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.
Good morning. Drinking some Door County Apple Cobbler Coffee to start the day. I heard some geese flying over the house which is not very common in January. They were definitely headed South.
I love to hunt water fowl. I have always wondered at how and why geese fly in formation. I found the following information. I think we could learn a few things from geese.
Geese Facts
Next fall when you see geese heading south for the winter... flying along in V formation...you might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way:
As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in V formation the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range, than if each bird flew on its own.
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone... and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front. If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those who are headed the same way we are.
When the head goose gets tired it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point. It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs...with people or with geese flying south.
Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. What do we say when we honk from behind?
Finally...and this is important...when a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshots, and falls out of formation, two other geese fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies, and only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch up with their group.

Rest is good for what ails you. 12/27/2012
Good Morning,
My coffee today is Door County Cherry Creme.
I must say that I am feeling a little bit under the weather today. There is a flu bug going around and I seem to have picked it up. So how do we turn this event of mine into a devotional.
I can only speak for me but I am sure that many of you do the same thing. I burn the candle at both ends. It seems that I cannot remember the last time I slept for seven hours. Busy, busy, busy. Going here, doing this or that, work, church, family, hobbies and just plain old stress. Then it comes. The fever, the aches, the runny nose or runny other ends. Yuck.
What does the Bible say?
Psalm 127:2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat--for he grants sleep to those he loves.
Sleep and rest. We need to be recharged. God set the example when after creating the world and all in it He rested on the seventh day. God loves you and created us to be tired. It is the signal for us to sleep and rest. That is exactly what I did last night. Why read God's Word and not obey. I figure if God could create this world He sure can give me advice on how to get better.

The Day After Christmas Gift Return12/26/2012
Good Morning,
The day after Christmas and my Coffee cup is filled once again with Door County Jingle Bell Java.
My family and I had a nice day yesterday. We were able to visit with other family members and enjoy some food as well.
On Christmas many families enjoy giving each other gifts. I have been blessed to receive gifts throughout the years. But every now and then I would receive a gift that made me wonder "what were they thinking? I will never use that?" I am sure many of you have received at least one of those in your life time. In the United States the day after Christmas finds the stores packed with people returning gifts for many reasons. Too big, too small, already have one, don't like it, wanted something else. The return lines are very long. I have had to return a gift or two.
I thought about how being in a line to return a gift could apply to God.

My wife and I travel to see our daughter and her family every year. We travel from Wisconsin to Florida. The planning is always exciting. What are we going to do? What are we getting the kids for Christmas? Then comes the drive to Florida. It always seems that on the way to Florida the trip goes faster than the return trip home. The homeward bound trip seems to take forever. I think the reason is that we are looking forward to getting to Florida to see our family. The excitement of talking about it makes the trip go faster. When we return home all we have are memories and laundry to do. Not too exciting.
If you have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, repented of your sins, and accepted the free gift of forgiveness then you know for sure you are going to heaven eternally some day. No tears, no crime, no lust, no liars. What a place!!!! And best of all Jesus will be there. I think we should talk about heaven more. Many are on the trip. It sure would be a great way to pass the time just getting excited about it. If you have not received Jesus as your Lord and Savior do so today. Pray and invite Him in. If you do let me know!

Preparing for a blizzard 12/20/2012
Good morning,
Coffee is done. Drinking a big cup of Door County Candy Cane coffee.
Well the forecast for today is "major snow storm". Prepare by filling your gas tanks on your cars, make sure your snow blower starts, have plenty of food and milk in the house. If you have a generator make sure you have enough gas. That is what we heard all day yesterday right into the night. School closings are planned, other civic events cancelled, and every kid is hoping for a snow day with an early start on Christmas vacation.
It is good to be prepared for weather events. I truly agree with that. But sometimes as much as we prepare we are not prepared for everything. My wife and I went through one of these before. Our check list was complete and we were confident we could ride out the blizzard. How did we know the furnace motor would burn out. Quite the cold dilemma!
Proverbs 27:1) Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
We thought we were prepared. We were still better off than those who had not prepared. We heard of many who lost power and did not have generators and later their pipes froze and burst. Our little generator kept our small electric heaters going. We weren't too warm but we did not freeze.
The lesson is this. Often times we have plenty of warning and we should prepare. But we procrastinate. The Bible has plenty to say about procrastination.
Proverbs 20:4 - The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; [therefore] shall he beg in harvest, and [have] nothing.
Heed warnings whenever possible. Try to avoid a mess that could be avoided.

Weaker and Stronger Snow Storm12/19/2012
Good Morning,
I hope your morning beverage is soothing to your body. Mine is Cherry Creme Coffee from Door County.

1 We then who are strong ought to bear with the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.
Winter has arrived in Wisconsin. Over the next couple of days the snow and ice are going to pile up. I do look forward to snow storms. Usually the next day it is cold and the sun seems brighter than normal. When I get up early with my coffee in hand I like to look at the fir trees in our yard covered with snow. The weight of snow holds down the branches to where it looks as if they might break. The smaller trees are sometimes buried with snow. What I notice is that the trees that are taller and closer to the sun always have the snow fall from their branches first. As the wind blows through the top of the trees the snow cascades down pulling the snow from the branches as it falls.
Then as the snow travels down and the larger trees sway in the wind the movement of the snow and the swaying of the larger tree causes the snow to fall off the smaller trees. Soon the small tree is upright again.
There are times in every one's life when we need someone to stand by us and pick us up. It might be your turn to be the taller tree and go before the "Son" catch the Spirit and lift up the weaker limb.
Bring the "Son Shine to Someone today." You might be the only Jesus they see.

Bringing Joy to Others 12/18/2012

This coming weekend members of our church will be going to two homes for the elderly singing Christmas Carols, bearing gifts and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have been doing this for many years. I always hear " we should do this more often". I always say "go ahead"! You see they live there all year round. They would be happy to see you.
Keep the Christmas Spirit all year. Spread joy, make it a plan, place it on the calendar. One comedian always says "Git r done". Plan and Do!

Connecticut School Tragedy 12/17/2012
Good morning,
Starting my day with a cup of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee.
Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts Him.
Psalm 32:10
It has taken me a couple days to get a grasp on this senseless tragedy in Connecticut. I have prayed and listened to the Holy Spirit. I have read other blogs, watched the news, listened to talk shows and a couple of sermons on the incident. I see finger pointing beginning towards politicians and gun owners.
I also have heard a cry for us to bring back prayer into the schools. I say amen to that. If this is not another call to change our ways we are more spiritually blind than I thought.
Hang on here we go! Prayer does belong in the schools, senate, congress, and public events.
When was the last time you witnessed a family bowing to pray before eating at McDonald's? When was the last time a church held a prayer service and had to set up extra seats?
Before prayer returns to the nation ( I pray quickly) it must again become the mainstay in our families and churches. I am proud of the guys I duck hunt with. They take out time for prayer each and every time we go out. They pray for safety, their families and others.
We as Christians need to practice what we preach. Don't ask for what you won't do in your area of God's arena.
If you are reading this, please join me in prayer this Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM . Wherever you are we can join together in Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Let's pray for recovery out there. Let's pray for those we do not know that may be contemplating such horror. Let's pray that they find peace in God through Jesus. Let's pray for a spiritual heart surgery to take place in all of us and get back to spiritual basics. Those would be Jesus and prayer. It's what this nation and world need.

Psalm 32:10
It has taken me a couple days to get a grasp on this senseless tragedy in Connecticut. I have prayed and listened to the Holy Spirit. I have read other blogs, watched the news, listened to talk shows and a couple of sermons on the incident. I see finger pointing beginning towards politicians and gun owners.
I also have heard a cry for us to bring back prayer into the schools. I say amen to that. If this is not another call to change our ways we are more spiritually blind than I thought.
Hang on here we go! Prayer does belong in the schools, senate, congress, and public events.
When was the last time you witnessed a family bowing to pray before eating at McDonald's? When was the last time a church held a prayer service and had to set up extra seats?
Before prayer returns to the nation ( I pray quickly) it must again become the mainstay in our families and churches. I am proud of the guys I duck hunt with. They take out time for prayer each and every time we go out. They pray for safety, their families and others.
We as Christians need to practice what we preach. Don't ask for what you won't do in your area of God's arena.
If you are reading this, please join me in prayer this Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM . Wherever you are we can join together in Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Let's pray for recovery out there. Let's pray for those we do not know that may be contemplating such horror. Let's pray that they find peace in God through Jesus. Let's pray for a spiritual heart surgery to take place in all of us and get back to spiritual basics. Those would be Jesus and prayer. It's what this nation and world need.

How to be satisfied Part 5
Good morning. Just finished a cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee. Happy Saturday to you.
Today we will conclude this 5 part series on the Holy Spirit. If you missed any of the others check out www.martyschutte.blogspot.com
I have enjoyed sharing this with all. I pray it has been beneficial to some. We talked all week about the Holy Spirit within us coming forth like a fountain. But what does that look like in a person? What does it sound like?
John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him, will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
The answer to the question can be found in
Galatians 5:22-23
New King James Version (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Evidence of the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit working in the lives of all biblical Christians should be seen. Christians who have these fruits are able to be effective witnesses of God's love and righteousness.
Love
When a Christian has love in his life, it's not the kind of sunny weather love that abandons others when times get tough. Instead, they shows real Godly Spiritual love by standing by those they love and encourage them to be the best they can be. This kind of love also forgives wrongs and lets go of the hatred of the believer's offenders.
Joy
Joy happens when the Christian recognizes that no matter how dark their trials get in life, they can still remain content and not fearful because God is in control.
Peace
Real peace is when you're no longer under a burden of guilt and shame because God has forgiven all of your sins and because you trusted Christ's death, burial and resurrection as your only way to eternal life. You now have a peace that will be with you eternally.
Patience and Kindness
When you have to deal with a difficult authority, spouse, child or co-worker having patience and kindness is important because anger only adds to the tense situation. As you allow the Holy Spirit to develop patience and kindness, you will notice a spirit of forgiveness in your life.
Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control
Goodness is when you stand for the right thing even when others are doing wrong. Gentleness is the ability to remain calm in tough situations, refraining from anger. Faithfulness is staying loyal to God's Word and self-control means having self discipline in your life. I suggest if you truly desire to have self control you enlist an accountability partner.

The coffee is brewing. Again today I will be drinking some Door County Candy Cane.
As I promised yesterday we will see what the Holy Spirit's job isn't.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him, will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
The primary purpose of the Holy Spirit is to point out our need for a Savior and that Savior is Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can save. The Holy Spirit leads us to that point of regeneration. Then once that happens we have the Holy Spirit within. We then ask for God to show us what the Holy Spirit wants to equip us for. We also can draw on the fountain of the Holy Spirit to calm, direct, and sustain us daily through good and bad times. Notice I did not say make the bad times disappear. But to sustain.
But here is what the Holy Spirit does not do.
The primary purpose after a regenerated repentant heart is then to equip us for service. I say whoa! Service???? We all need the Holy Spirit. Not all are Pastors, elders, Sunday school teachers. This is not just for church service. This is for business men and women, parents, spouses, friends, athletes and warriors. There is no one under heaven that could not use the Holy Spirit as a guide. Think of parents, and a Spirit led family. Think of a Spirit led business. ( Probably a lot less company pens going home that shouldn't be).
The primary purpose of the Holy Spirit is not to make us personally happy. I did not say that receiving the Holy Spirit will not make us happy. We will have a new heart and wonderful joy within. That does produce happiness! Happiness in our relationship to God through Jesus our Savior.
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
This is an often misunderstood verse. Delighting in the Lord does not produce the car you want. Although God may bless you with one. Delighting in the Lord causes Him to become the DESIRE of your heart.
That being said you will want a Spirit filled ministry, family, marriage, business or such. Today would be a good day to start. Surrender your will to God and ask for a Spirit led life. Besides the impact on yourself, you may look at others differently, notice the God given gifts you have, find contentment in yourself and others, see lost souls and desire to reach out, forgive and be forgiven, preach or teach differently, love more, pray more, grieve with hope, and endure.
What do you say to that? Can today be the day for Readers, co-workers, church members, family and friends? Surrender the flag of will.

How to be satisfied! Part 3 12-12-2012
Good morning Dear Friends,
Coffee this morning is Door County Candy Cane Coffee. Enjoying a little breakfast of fruit and fresh banana bread.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him, will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
Yesterday I wrote of the water from my home town and how I miss it when I travel. The analogy to the Holy Spirit was that He goes with us as a fountain that springs forth within, as a source of water from my faucet cannot.
Today I start with a question. What stops the fountain ( Holy Spirit) within your heart? Do you even know? I know what stops me from drinking my home town water when I am in Haiti or elsewhere. It's not there.
Again do you know? If you do know, put it away and discard it from your life.
But it might be that you do not know what it is. You know that you once held that joy and have lost it. You can know what has stopped your joy. Ask God to show you what hinders your life, your family, your ministry, your work, and your joy in God. Then promise Him that if He shows you what it is, you will be obedient and give it up!!!!!! He will show you if you are being sincere and truthful.
But some of you have never known the joy of the Holy Spirit. You can today! Jesus stands before you today. You are at the well!!!! Unseen, yet here as I write. He says
John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him, will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
Will you drink? Jesus also in this chapter told the woman of her past and her sins. Today you can be forgiven of your sins by asking for forgiveness. Repent from them and make changes to your life. Ask Jesus to come in and be your Lord and Savior.
Revelation 3:20
Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door I will come into him.
What are you waiting for? Friends, readers, pastors, flock, family! What are you waiting for? Ask others. What are they waiting for.
Part four tomorrow. The job of the Holy Spirit is not???????

How to be satisfied, which brings happiness. 12-12-2012 part 2
Good morning,
Door County Candy Cane Coffee for me. It just makes me want to sing "White Christmas"
Yesterday we looked into the passage regarding Jesus meeting a woman at the well.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him, will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
Today I want to look mainly at the word fountain.
There does come times in all lives that we face great trials and sorrow. At these times do we rush to anything that would make it worse? No. Much of the things we could turn to, drugs, alcohol, wrong decisions, anger, sin, would only add to our sorrow and problems.
But! From this fountain within us, ( the Holy Spirit) which is indwelling gushes up at such a time as that
"Joy unspeakable and full of glory"
1 Peter 1:8
I do travel abroad on short term mission trips. One of our main goals is to provide safe water for those that are traveling on the trips with me.
Where I live we have access to great drinking water. Our little suburb has been rated as having some of the best water in the world. It actually bottles it for sale. I turn on the faucet and clear pure refreshing water pours forth.
But, when I travel I cannot take much more than a bottle with me. There have been days on these trips where the temperatures reach in excess of 100 degrees. It causes me to think about my home town water so cool and refreshing, as I drink a warm gulp of water from a canteen that I still have from the day before. Not fresh at all!
Where is this going? You see, life brings trials. Life brings the loss of loved ones. Life brings arguments. Life brings disappointment. But we have a fountain within us that we can draw on for peace, love, joy, hope, and perfect direction despite what we see. Unlike the faucet I cannot draw from when I am in a foreign land. This fountain travels with us.
The Holy Spirit never leads us to sin or satisfaction in worldly choices. In that, we are on God's page and can find satisfaction with Him. This is available to gush forth.
Thus happiness even during sorrow. Thus happiness with contentment with what we have.
Thus happiness as God leads our direction even during darkest times, we have hope. .

How to be satisfied, which brings happiness.. 12-11-2012 part 1
Good morning,
My coffee for the week will be Door County Candy Cane. It will assist in getting me more into the winter mood.
Tuesday through Friday we will explore a theme series. I usually do not do this, but the Spirit has led me in that direction after a long night of prayer.
Our Lord Jesus himself tells how each one of us can be fully satisfied and satisfied forever. This is a "musical symphony for the heart and soul."
John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him, will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
Let's look at the story. Jesus had put in a long day. The others had gone into town to obtain food. He was too tired and decided to sit at a well. Along came a woman with a checkered past and life. So thus started the conversation between the two. Jesus was not really concerned about a drink of water. (He really probably was thirsty). But He put that aside to discuss matters of the soul, and issues of life. His goal was to save a soul and restore a life.
The water He speaks of is the Holy Spirit poured into our hearts given to those who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
He tells us in this passage that we might drink of all the world may have to offer, the fountains of wealth, possessions, fame, knowledge, or our environment. Yet when our environment, and possessions are where we would like it to be we are happy. But if our joy is in these, we cannot by any way be happy for sometimes these change.
But if our source of joy is in our own hearts. The fountain springing up within us, then we are entirely independent of worldly pleasures, circumstances, surroundings or possessions. We rejoice and are joyful with what we have, not what it "could be".

We all have lessened the name of Jesus. To exalt the King is to drop our own agendas, serve in unity, love Him, fear Him, respect His purpose, bleed, weep, rejoice, strive, sing, forgive, worship and pray with one purpose. That purpose is Jesus. We are to take up our cross with joy daily. Not counting the cost.
There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12

The Old Rugged Cross 12/8/2012
Good Morning,
Happy Saturday to you. My coffee cup is filled with some Door County Cherry Creme today.
- Philippians 2:8
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
"On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown."
When I listen to or sing it I often feel tears well up in my eyes. I see many ornate crosses dangling from necks with gold chains. I have nothing against that at all. As a matter of fact I own one or two.
But as I sing the words "the emblem of suffering and shame" the cross turns dark for me. I am reminded how ugly sin is, especially my own. Their ugliness deserved an ugly punishment. Rough wood, nails, blood, discomfort and searing pain along with death.
But as the song goes on I am reminded that this cross was a gift to me and you. It was the payment for our sins and someday I will be home in heaven. And when I think of the price paid for sin I am humbled and ashamed.
So from time to time when you see an ornate cross, close your eyes and picture the "Old Rugged Cross" and say thank you to the One who died for us.

Pearl Harbor and Prayer 12/7/2012
On the USS Arizona 1,177 crew members perished, making it the greatest loss of life on any U.S. warship in American history.
On December 7th 1941 The United States Pacific Fleet was attacked at Pearl Harbor. Thus fully committing the United States into World War Two. We are grateful to those who fought for our freedom.
Good morning, Today I am warming up with a cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee.
It's hard to find many people now that can tell you where they were and what they did on the day that the attack on December 7th 1941 took place. I remember asking my grand parents what happened that they could remember.
They explained that most people sat around the radio waiting for news to come through. They also said that since it was a Sunday most people went back to church and the church was crowded. Many people were there, more than on other Sundays. It seems as if this great tragedy caused more people to seek refuge in God.
Why wait for tragedy to strike? We can make God our daily refuge. You know we are as close to God as we choose to be. I challenge all of you to spend more time in prayer today. Embrace the Mighty Fortress. Be as close as you can be to the Great I Am.

Jesus and the Candy Cane 12/6/2012

Starting my day with a cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee. Seems appropriate for our devotional today.

Jesus! The reason for the season. How sweet is that name.

Starting my day with a cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee. Seems appropriate for our devotional today.
A candymaker in Indiana
wanted to make a candy that would remind people of the true meaning of
Christmas; so he made the candy cane to incorporate several symbols for the
birth, ministry, and death of Jesus Christ. He began with a stick of pure white,
hard candy. White to symbolize the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus,
and hard to symbolize the Solid Rock, the foundation of the Church, and the
firmness of the promises of God. 
The candymaker then shaped
his cane into the form of a "J" to represent the precious name of Jesus, who
came to the earth as Savior. It could also represent the staff of the "Good
Shepherd" with which He reaches down to to reclaim the fallen lambs who, like
sheep, have gone astray.
Thinking that the candy was
somewhat plain, the candymaker stained it with red stripes. He used three small
stripes to show the stripes of the scourging Jesus received. The large red
stripe was for the blood shed by Christ on the cross so that we could have the
promise of eternal life.

Father and Mother 12/5/2012
Dear Friends,
Good morning! I prayed as I wrote this for whoever would be reading today. I am drinking some Door County Apple Cobbler coffee to start the day.
As Christmas approaches I have been thinking about my parents. My Dad is still with us, but Mom passed away a couple years ago. I started thinking about some of the things I learned from them. I imagine you too can recall some of the lessons learned from your parents or grandparents.
One of the first things we learned was to say please and thank you. As I was shopping the other day at a local grocery store I of course had to pay for my groceries. I spent just a little under $200. I was given the amount to pay. Paid in full. Then it happened!!!!!!! What you say? Well actually nothing happened. The check out person asked the next customer in line if they had a "rewards card or coupons". Not a thank you did I receive.

Eagles Wings 12/4/2012
Good morning,
Just a cup of Door County Cherry Coffee to jump start the day.
Isaiah 4:28-31
8 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
These well known words were written originally to the children of Israel as they were returning for their exile in Babylon. Their city was gone, their temple destroyed. They had been in bondage under harsh rulers for over sixty years. They had waited to see what God would do in their most difficult situation, they had had no choice but to wait.
Even in their waiting, the people had not become immersed in the Babylonian civilization. Unlike many nations. they had kept their identity and remembered their God. Now in their release they were to return to their homeland to re-establish their lives, their country, and their faith.
But the people were tired, weary, full of doubt. They felt forgotten and had begun to ask the questions: Who is God? and therefore, Who are we? The words of the prophet now resonate in their ears.
Their God is everlasting, He is the creator. God does not faint or grow weary, he has unending strength. God’s ways are unsearchable. He gives power to those who are faint and strength to the powerless.
As to who God is, the answer is direct and sure. But who are his people in this context? They are the weary, the fainthearted, the exhausted—they are those who must wait for him. They have no strength to continue on their journey. It is not circumstances that has stopped them, but their own inability to go on.
The truth is that all people of faith are at some time the people for whom these words are written. We all must wait for the strength of God. His assurance to these patient waiters in him is that their strength will be renewed. They will soar with wings like eagles.

Torture or Not?
Good morning,
I once again apologize for not blogging daily. Still experiencing technical issues and just recovering from a death in the family. Today I had a little Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee.

Be still and know that I am God.
Some people would call sitting in a duck boat on a cold damp December morning torture. Some see it as a quiet place. Some see it as a refuge to watch the sun come up and welcome the day in with prayer.
You see I am a duck hunter and I enjoy that early morning time with God. I look forward to it and consider it precious.
Whatever you like to do, find time to be still and reflect with God. Be still and listen!

Fruit of the Womb
Good morning,
Drinking a little Door County Apple Cobbler Coffee this morning. My apologies for the sporadic blog updates lately. Technical difficulties and a death in the family have altered my schedule. We will be back to normal in a few days.
— Galatians 5:22-23 —
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
I love reading the verses above. As we launch into December we will shop, decorate, eat, travel and share gifts or cards..
My challenge for us today is to STOP right now, two days before December and look at our schedule and say. But where is Christ in all this? Christmas does not have to be a hassle. It should be a time of "Fruit of the Womb". Yes that little baby boy was sent that we can have eternal life in Him.
With Jesus as our Savior and Lord we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. If we are to enjoy the "fruits of the Spirit" we need to take time to walk in the Spirit. Slow down, and let this be a Spirit led Christmas Season. You might be surprised to find that this was the best one ever!

Heart Transplant
Good Morning,
Pretty cold here in Wisconsin today. My coffee cup is filled with Door County Cherry Creme Coffee.
Just a little trip back into history.
Groote Schuur Hospital was placed centre stage in the world's spotlight when Professor Christiaan Barnard performed the first human heart transplant on the third of December 1967.
Heart transplants have been taking place now for 45 years. Many times over these surgeries have given new life to someone.
Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
God is also in the business of heart transplants. He takes even the hardest of hearts and transplants a new one spiritually. The heart is the spiritual center of every person. When God's Spirit becomes the center of peoples lives, Scripture says they are "born again". The new heart gets a new start.
A loving person where there was an angry mean person before.
A sober person where there once was a drunkard.
A caring and unselfish person where there once was a self centered and selfish person.
A patient person where there once was an over anxious person.
A servant where there once was a ruthless tyrant.
Only the Spirit of God can perform a transplant like those listed above. No self effort can jump start a dead life. Only God's gift of His presence can jump start a heart into a permanent change.
In order to receive a new heart from God one must consent to the change and allow the Great Physician to do His work on the heart of stone. What do you say? How about surrendering the part of your heart that needs a change? Allow God in to heal your heart and help it to beat for Him and others.

Fishing Lures 11/26/2012
Good morning! Here we go again with a New Monday. I am drinking a hot cup of Door County Apple Cobbler Coffee and headed to work.
I have started my Christmas shopping. I can't say that I am fond of it. I do however need to purchase a gift for a fellow sportsman. This fella likes to fish. So off I went to the Sporting Goods store to browse. So many fishing lures to choose from. One advertisement for a lure stated " guaranteed to make them bite". I thought to myself now that's a bait to have.
Today I want us to think about this week. Someone will toss a "bait" our way this week. This bait is designed to get us to open our mouths and say something we later will wish we had not said.
"People are like fish. Neither would get into trouble if they just kept their mouths shut."
Don't fall for the bait. Pray your answers through. Avoid the confrontation. Once the mouth opens and the words come out, there is no going back. Just like fish we go from Monday to the frying pan!
Who so keeps his mouth shut and minds his tongue keeps his soul from troubles. Proverbs 21:23

Traveling Home 11/23/2012
Good morning!
Many of those in the United States were out early or in the middle of the night to obtain low prices on Christmas presents. So let me recommend a strong cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee to wake you up.
Have you ever traveled somewhere and despite how hard your host worked for you something was missing? What was missing, is that it wasn't home!
My kingdom is not of the world. John 18:36
Jesus reminds us that His home is in Heaven. Those who have received Him as Lord and Savior will dwell with Him there when we leave this world.
There are many rooms in my Father's house. I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:2
Problems, strife, discontent and unhappiness on Earth work to promote a thirst and hunger for Heaven. God through these, holds our attentions on what is ahead.
We will never be content here. We were not made for Earth. We were made for Heaven. Settling for what Earth has to offer is a great tragedy. We are prematurely satisfied. Content in a strange land??
We will see moments or days of joy, peace, and get glimpses of God at work. But never ever think that what we have now compares to the wonders ahead! Travel on! We are just passing through.

Cup Of Cheer 11/22/2012
Good morning!
I am off of work today and headed out to do some duck hunting with my Nephew Nick and my good buddy Fred. Time spent with those guys and of course a good cup of Door County Apple Cobbler Coffee is priceless.
Did you ever notice that the person most people want to hang around with has a cheerful personality?
You like to be greeted by them. They are welcoming. They pay attention to you. And you feel better after you have spent time with them. I have been blessed to know many people like that. The Bible has a lot to say about being cheerful.
Proverbs 15:30
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.
Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
If we are to love one another as Jesus commands, shouldn't we work to spread cheerfulness whenever we can? Read the verses above again, They make you think of someone or they put a smile on your face.
Cheerful people live longest here in our hearts.
So spread some cheer, share a smile, a compliment, a word of love, a word of comfort, a word of thankfulness or a hug.
If it is in the Bible it is important!

Turkey Recipe and Thankfulness. 11/21/2012
Good Morning. Today I am treating myself to a cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee. I hope your day is blessed and you can be a blessing to someone today.
This Thursday in the United States we celebrate our Thanksgiving Day. A day full of history, where we are reminded to be thankful for our blessings.
3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; Philippians 1:3-6
It is a custom in many homes just before dining on a turkey dinner, people at the table are asked to state something they are thankful for.
I suggest a different way of doing this. This week vow to yourself to let someone know just how thankful you are for them. Then go so far as to pray for that person for the rest of the week.
In case you didn't know it I am thankful for all of you who read this devotional. Because as Paul writes God has begun a good work in you, and I cherish your fellowship in Jesus. I do pray for you and many of you I do not know. God knows who you are and where you are . I trust Him to hear me on your behalf.
Last night I promised a Turkey Recipe
Here it is.
Any size turkey is just fine.
Thaw and wash the turkey.
Dry the turkey with a towel inside and out.
Place the turkey into your baking pan.
Pepper the outside to your specific taste level.
Place two slices of bacon into the turkey cavity.
Completely cover the whole turkey with bacon slices. Preferably heavily smoked bacon.
Then pour about 12-16 ounces of pure maple syrup over the bacon covered turkey.
Bake until done. No need to baste.
Slice the turkey and place on a platter.
Squirt some of the pan drippings on to the meat.
Serve while hot!

Live Like you are dying. 11/21/2012
Good Morning,
Dear Friends I have a cup of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee in my hand as I write this. I am preparing for a long day. I wrote this one back in 2012. I decided it was time for a replay.
Yesterday was a tough day. I watched as my wife and her family had to make the decision to place her Dad into Hospice care. All the school and classes in the world did not prepare me for this day. I really was at a loss as to what to say. Earlier in the day my Father in Law and I had a discussion about eternity with Jesus. He reassured me that there was Jesus in his future. He and I reminisced about that Christmas Eve when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.
Yet I was confronted with my own mortality. I have received Jesus and have made Him Lord and Savior of my life 31 years ago. The above Scripture reminds me that my days are numbered and God knows when He will call me home. I am ready to go. But here is what I learned today.

Transformers 11/20/2012
Dear Friends,
Good morning facing my Monday with a cup of Door County Death's Door Coffee and some
time spent at the throne of God.
Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable, perfect will of
God.
So what does that mean? God's perfect will is that none should perish but have
everlasting life. God has created two eternal homes so that no one is left
homeless. He has created heaven and hell. For those who have received Jesus as
Savior heaven awaits. Well the second part to that is for those who have not
received Jesus, hell awaits.
Each day we are bombarded with the things of this Earth. Before they take a
foothold in our life the above verse tells us to renew our minds. A backslidden
Christian cannot prove the "perfect will of God" and therefore they are not real
convincing when they preach Jesus.
So, daily we should pray, read our Bibles, and have someone hold us accountable
for life choices. This keeps us transformed in the right direction.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable, perfect will of
God.
So what does that mean? God's perfect will is that none should perish but have
everlasting life. God has created two eternal homes so that no one is left
homeless. He has created heaven and hell. For those who have received Jesus as
Savior heaven awaits. Well the second part to that is for those who have not
received Jesus, hell awaits.
Each day we are bombarded with the things of this Earth. Before they take a
foothold in our life the above verse tells us to renew our minds. A backslidden
Christian cannot prove the "perfect will of God" and therefore they are not real
convincing when they preach Jesus.
So, daily we should pray, read our Bibles, and have someone hold us accountable
for life choices. This keeps us transformed in the right direction.

Preventing House Fires11/15/2012
Dear Friends Good Morning, I broke out a little Door County Peanut Butter Crunch Coffee this morning. Feeling just a little nutty today.
In the past few months I have been preaching and teaching Christian love in our church.
Verses like "love your neighbor as yourself" "do unto others" "would you not help a neighbor who's ox was in a ditch?" Many, many verses bombarded my brain as I listened, taught and preached through the weeks. I asked myself "am I a good neighbor?" Well I have lent my lawn mower to a neighbor, I've repaired their plumbing, I have dined with them, I watch their house when they are gone. So I concluded that I am a good neighbor. I then asked God. Am I a good neighbor? I received no answer. The other night while watching the news the key story was about a man that rescued his neighbors from their burning house. I thought "now that's a good neighbor, I'd do that!" As I prayed before sleep that night God reminded me that I was not a good neighbor. Many of my neighbor's houses were on fire and I have not done a thing to put out the fires of hell in their lives. I haven't invited my neighbors to church. I deliver pasta when a baby is born but forget to pray with the new mother and father. Our text from the book of John reminds us of this.
Those who believe in the Son have eternal life, but those who do not obey the Son will never have life. John 3:36
2 Peter 3:9 also states that, God is being patient with you. He does want not anyone to be lost, but He wants all people to change their hearts and lives.
Truly friends, if my neighbors house were ablaze with fire I would storm the place and try to rescue them. Those who do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and are relying on good works, religious rituals, and hoping they are good enough are literally living in a house headed for more than a blaze if they die. So be a good neighbor and don't be afraid to say "Hey neighbor your house is on fire". Share the Good News of Jesus Christ and His message of salvation.
