Wisconsin State Fair 7/31/2014

Good Morning,

One more day until August 1st. My coffee this morning is Door County Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend. I was given this sample from a friend. This is a first time for me on this flavor. I am enjoying the coffee with a bolder taste.

Today is the first day of the Wisconsin State Fair. It is a celebration of Wisconsin with a festival atmosphere. There is something at the fair to be enjoyed by all ages and tastes. I will be attending Sunday afternoon to listen to some local music and purchase a new flag pole for our yard.

One of the things that many look forward to at the fair is their famous cream puffs. During the run of the fair, the vendor makes thousands of these delicious treats. I see one in my future. I have noticed that the desire for a cream puff does not discriminate by age, or gender. It seems that young or old, female or male, everyone likes a cream puff. Now I have been known to eat two of these puffs. But later all that cream is a little hard on my digestion process. One puff is fine, but two puts me over the edge.

There is good advice found within the Bible for cream puff consumption as well as other goodies.

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Self control is good for many things including the stomach. There is no limit on the fruits of the Spirit. They are always good for you and offer aid in keeping things away that can cause harm.
The best way to possess the Fruits Of The Spirit is to "walk in the Spirit". This comes by faith, prayer, listening and obedience.

Not only can self control help the digestive process it helps prevent ulcers of worry.

This Scripture gives advice but can be read as "medicine for the soul".

God bless,

Smoothing Out The Road 7/30/2014

Good Morning,

Wednesday and the middle of the week has arrived. My coffee this morning is Door County Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti. It rained last night and the grass is still wet. We needed some rain and it was much welcomed.

The last few weeks the drive to work has been a challenge. The highways I take to the hospital are being repaired and repaved. But just yesterday I noticed that for quite a distance  I was driving a new smooth pavement. I can still remember the winter damage on the highway that seemed to develop holes large enough to swallow a small car. Those holes had a way of being able to launch the coffee from my cup and place it directly on a shirt or tie.
As I was driving I saw the road pavers parking their equipment for the morning. They worked all night when traffic was lighter to smooth out the roads for the rest of us. I had to tip my hat to them in thanks.

Throughout our lives there have been people who smoothed out our personal roads in many ways. It might have been a teacher or coach who helped you excel. It might have been parents that called in a favor to help you get a job, or they signed for your first loan. It could have been a clergy member who helped you through a rough time.  These personal road pavers were gifts used by God to bless us.

We need to remember who sent the road pavers in our life.

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Now with every winter we receive road damage by the time spring comes. And every year the people who smooth out the road are back. You can count on it. Somewhere in the future someone will smooth out the way for you. Be sure to thank them and God.

Have a great mid week day!

God bless.

Lessons From a King. 7/29/2014

Good Morning,

My coffee today is Door County Hawaiian Hazelnut. Feeling a little tropical today. I am cleaning out the summer supply in anticipation of the fall and holiday flavors.

Ecclesiastes 5 New Living Translation (NLT)

Approaching God with Care

[a]As you enter the house of God, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God. [b]Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.
Too much activity gives you restless dreams;

King Solomon inspired by the Holy Spirit imparted some words of wisdom to live by. He advises us to enter our time with God having open ears and a closed mouth. The house of God can be anywhere you are when you decide to approach the throne and listen. Pray? Of course! But don't babble and make promises until you really know what God wants. Sometimes we can be too busy for God and too busy at work as well as too busy at home. When sleep escapes you, there it too much activity in your life on too much activity on your mind.

So as the Scripture said "Let your words be few". I am done.

Have a great day. God bless,
Marty

Making it Short. 7/28/2014

Good Morning.

My coffee today is Door County Cherry Crème. This was a full weekend. We both were headed in multiple directions with some fun and some duties.

Today's blog will be short. Sometimes less is best. Today I think it is best to let God's Word do all the speaking. I spent some time out in nature yesterday. It made me think. I hope this does the same for you as it did for me.

Genesis 1 New Living Translation (NLT)

The Account of Creation

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.[a] The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

Those first 6 days sure had to be something to see!

God bless,

My Foot Hurts 7/27/2014

Good Morning World,

This morning I have filled my mug with Door County Jamaican Me Crazy Coffee. It is a heavy but smooth coffee that contains spices and vanilla.

Later today I will be making a hospital visit to see an old friend and then spend some quality time with my nephews shooting some clay targets. Duck season is right around the corner and I need to get my shooting eye back.

Philippians 4:4-8New Living Translation (NLT)
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.[a]
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

I want to talk about a little lady and her husband. Their names are Howard and Mary. Both of them are members of our church and have been for a long, long time. As long as I can remember Mary has been disabled and in a wheel chair. To say the least life has been a struggle. Howard has always been right by her side taking care of her needs. They have been married for over fifty years. I see them weekly and actually see Howard a little more often. Mary's care needs and Howard's age forced them to make a decision and Mary now resides at a nursing facility where she can obtain more care than Howard can provide.

But every week like clock work, Howard picks her up in their van and brings her to church. She sits through choir practice and listens to the hymns. Then she sits through our Saturday evening service. She always has a smile and when you ask her how she is doing she says "fine". For as many years as I have known  Mary, I have never heard her complain.
A few church members like to go out to eat  after the service. I have been with them a few times. Mary just goes wherever they all decide to go and is just fine with anything. Howard helps her get her plate ready and she does just great. She is happy to be out and with friends.

Last night our monthly prayer service was held after the worship service. Guess who stays when they are able to? Mary and Howard!!!!! It gets to be a long night and she goes without eating until late. Mary and Howard come to pray for others. There have been times that I wonder where all the able bodied people are for the prayer service, and stand amazed at these two for their commitment. But last night was a first. While taking in prayer requests Mary spoke up and said "I have one. My foot hurts." Her foot has an ulcer and it is wrapped. It is painful to say the least. She was not complaining. She had been their awhile praying for others while she herself was in pain. What an unselfish soul! She put others before herself. When it came around to Howard for his requests to be prayed for, he didn't have any. He said " I want to talk about some praises we have experienced". Howard went on to tell us about a couple of things we have been praying for and how  some miracles they experienced happened. They both praised god for the miracles.

Despite their hardships they were praising God and putting others first. Mary's foot was prayed for immediately and people rejoiced with Howard. These two have it tough but yet they bring joy and happiness to others. That is the first time that Mary has requested prayer for herself. I am sure that many people pray for them without the two knowing about it.

So here is the point. They struggle, but you wouldn't know it from them. They have to live apart now but cherish the time they are together and with friends or family. They don't bring people down. They always bring people up. Their suffering isn't an excuse to make others miserable.

Don't you wish we could all be like them? Can people tell when you are having a bad day. Do you always have to bring others down where you are? Do people have to know when you are in pain? Does tragedy last forever and make you ugly to be with?

I myself have been part of those bad traits listed above from time to time. I wish I could be more like my two friends.

It is a choice to make when life pulls us down to not pull others with us. It is a choice to make when life pulls us down to lift up others while we are down. It is a choice to make to praise God despite our circumstances and bring others up.

Well enough said. Time for another cup of coffee.

God bless,
Marty

Stop And Smell The Coffee 7/26/2014

Good Morning,

I can smell the coffee brewing. That pot will be filled with my last packet of Door County White Christmas Coffee. Giving myself a little treat today. Just a few chores to do this morning and then it's time to touch up a few duck decoys with my nephew.
That's what I like about Saturdays. I wake up at the same time no matter what. My internal clock is set for 5am. I also have a furry friend that will remind me that it is time for breakfast. It's hard to turn down a wet nose and a wagging tail. But instead of rushing out of the door with my coffee in my hand I can move slower and enjoy the smell and taste of the coffee, pet our dog and sit outside or at a window and watch the world wake up. I can enjoy my quiet time and pray.

We all know that many of my Saturdays are spent in the duck marsh. After all the decoys are set, the same routine happens. Coffee nice and slow, prayer, clearing of the mind and of course the dog is there.
We all need time to slow down and enjoy our surroundings. Maybe it is just drinking coffee out of one of your favorite cups. Reading and studying God's Word is always better when you can go slowly and savor it. Maybe it's some time to look at old photos and laugh. Maybe it's time to look at an old gift ( my thermos bottle) remember who gave it to you and some of the days you used it and enjoyed having it.
On my desk I have another one that was given to me by my family. It has never seen a cup of coffee on the inside. They had it stenciled with my name on it. It is way too nice to use. But each morning when I am at the desk writing about coffee I think about those guys. It makes me smile.
So where is this heading and how does it apply? Take time to slow down, enjoy some good things that bring you peace and happiness. Find time to pray and listen in the quiet. The day will be what it is and it might not even be peaceful. But you can retreat for a little while and rest. You owe it to yourself.

Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am God.

Have a great day.

Part Of The Family 7/25/2014

Good Morning,

Friday at last. It seemed as if it was never going to arrive. My coffee this morning is Door County Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti. I am growing very fond of this flavor. Great way to start the morning.

1 John 3:1New Living Translation (NLT)
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.

A lot of people struggle with their own self worth. They measure their worth according to the world's standards. Riches, popularity, social status and personal looks are some of the measurements the world uses.

Christians really should not suffer from lack of self worth. Our eternal life in Heaven was paid for by Jesus dying for our sins. In other words we were important enough to die for. Secondly, because of Jesus and our faith in Him we are children of God. We have a mansion awaiting us. We are citizens of heaven just visiting Earth until we are called home.

I don't know about you but that makes me feel special.

God bless,
Marty

Don't Give Up 7/24/2014

Good Morning,

Thursday looks to be a busy one as well as a long one. I am going to coffee up with a cup of Door County German Chocolate Cake.

Have you ever started something and as easy as it sounded to do, the project became super difficult and it caused you to give up? What about a relationship, either personal, ministry or business? Those of us who quit will never know how close we came to succeeding or what great things could have happened if we had stayed on course.

When I was a young boy, while deer hunting in the North woods of Wisconsin I became lost. Not just a little lost, but big time lost. The first thing I gave up on was my compass. I truly believed that the stupid thing couldn't North without a sign. The next thing I gave up on was my training. The last thing I gave up on was myself. I really believed that I was on the right path to our trucks, but after walking in one direction foe a long time I decided to turn back and head another way.

By this time a few men were searching for me and picked up my tracks. They were pretty excited to see that I was headed toward the trucks, until they saw me turn in the wrong direction. Later I found out that I was just 100 yards from the trucks which were parked just around the bend.

I quit and gave up on my gear, my training and myself. At that time in my life I did not know enough to pray. Below are some Bible verses that might just help you when you are tempted to quit.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. Deut. 31:6

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Eph. 6:10

The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7

I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only. Psalm 71:16

We all become discouraged from time to time. But for Christians there can be no excuse for quitting. If God brought us to it, He will see us through it. We are His kids. By the way, one of those frantically searching for me in the dark was my Dad. He knew that I had given up on my gear, my training and myself. He did not give up on me and came to my aid. God does the same.

God bless,

Marty

Road Construction 7/23/2014

Good Morning,

My schedule is a full one today. I have filled my coffee mug with Door County Cherry Crème Coffee and plan on taking some to work with me. A little smoked salmon and crackers for lunch later and then back home after a work out.

Sounds like my day is all planned out. It probably will have a change in the schedule or two. I would almost bet on it. Another detour to navigate through.

Our winter in Wisconsin was a tough one last year. Our roads took a beating from the deep frost, snow and salt. Everywhere I go the roads are under construction for repairs. Some are actually closed. What used to be a drive by memory to work is now a challenge. One actually has to pay attention to signs, news and orange lane closure barrels.

If you don't, you end up like many drivers I have seen this summer trying to back up and get into the correct lane. They did not pay attention and at times caused huge traffic back ups because of their mistakes. The signs were there, but they were ignored.

Galatians 5:21

Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God

All through life God warns us when we are headed down the wrong road. He has given us His Word that guides, teaches, warns, and leads us in our battle with choices that lead to sin.

But like many we ignore the signs and won't back up until it is too late and the calamity of our choices has begun. God also uses the authority of leaders and government to warn us. In Wisconsin it is illegal to drive intoxicated and we are all warned as to the consequences, yet we do it and receive the punishment when we are caught. God also send others to mentor us and show us the right way. But all to often like a flagman on the highway the warning sign is ignored.

So today as you travel and you see road signs try to remember that God desires to lead us down the right road in life, just as the road signs are designed to get you to your destination safely.

Have a great day. Travel safe.

Let God Rearrange Your Thinking 7/22/2014

Good Morning,

My mug is filled with Door County Peanut Butter Crunch coffee. My heart is filled with contentment today. So it is off to work I go.

Isaiah 55:8-9New Living Translation (NLT)
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

God is at work at all times. His will is to redeem a lost world though His Son Jesus. We often find ourselves involved or called into God's activity. It is at this time if not prior to, that we should have God rearrange our thoughts to align with His, not His thoughts to ours.

In the Lord's Prayer we pray, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. But all too often our prayer states "here is my will Father, please make sure it is Yours too. Prayer is too much speaking and not enough listening most of the time.

All too often our directions are taken from a book, but not from "The Book" the Bible. If we would listen and obey just imagine what God could do with us.

So the next time when someone says "you must read this book, it has the answers", gauge your response on how much they actually quote the Bible, read the Bible and pray for God's will to be done and not their own. Make sure you are not one of these folks yourself. You are just a living example of the Tower of Babel. Seen and heard, but not taken seriously. Worse yet, taken seriously.

His will, not mine or yours today!

Lesson On Hope 7/21/2014

Good Morning,

Here's hoping someone tells you that you are loved today. My coffee this morning is Door County Cherry Crème. Just need to pack my lunch grab another coffee and it's off to work.

I want to spend a little time today looking at Psalm 71. I have a few thoughts to share.

The Psalmist is speaking about how his life has been very rough as of late.  He proclaims more than once that God has been is refuge and hope.  Notice how the Psalmist responds to his enemies that say to him that God has left him forsaken.
10 For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together 11 and say, “God has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him.”….14 But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. 15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. 16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.
This should stand out to all of us as a challenge. Despite the rough times the Psalmist is experiencing he continues to praise God. This is true faith at it's best. This is an example to live by.
20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. 21 You will increase my greatness and comfort me again.22 I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel. 23 My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have redeemed. 24 And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long…

I wonder if we could even have this attitude and faith for even part of our day?

We won't know, until we try.

God bless,
Marty

By the way, you are loved.

Is Your License Visible? 7/20/2014

Good Morning,

My coffee today is Door County Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti. The blog is a little late today. Last night after our Saturday evening church service a large group of us went to the shore of lake Michigan for a late picnic and to watch a fireworks display sponsored by our Italian Community during their annual festival. It went quite late and so I am moving slow today. It was a great time of fellowship and food.

Well it's that time of the year. When the small boat comes from the backyard to the front, duck season is right around the corner. I am blessed to have two boats, one is larger than the one in this picture. This smaller one is in need of a little paint touch up and the trailer needs some work on the lights. In order to have a safe and hopefully productive duck and goose season some preparation time has to be done to make sure everything is in order. Each of my boats has a license. The license has three parts. One part is a card that needs to be carried by the owner of the boat. The second part is a decal that must be affixed to the boat like a license plate for a car. The last part is the license number must be painted on both sides of the boat so it can easily be identified by authorities. This boat has all three but the painted part has faded and cannot be easily seen. It needs to be touched up. It can't be used until that is completed.

Romans 12:1-2 New Living Translation (NLT)

A Living Sacrifice to God

12 And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.[b] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Christian Friends, is your license visible? Can others see Jesus in you? Can you be spotted as one who is involved at your church? Can others tell by your actions if you belong to Jesus? Or have you faded into obscurity? You belong but it hardly shows. Well then it's time for a touch up. Dust off that Bible. Get into it and pray. Ask God to show you what needs touching up and then do it. Most of all get involved. I can paint that boat and call myself a duck hunter, but if the boat never hits the water there won't be any ducks in the freezer. The word Christian is a noun. I suggest that we also think of the title as a verb which means we are to be in action for Jesus.

How about getting ready? Are you willing to get dusted off, shined up and back into the world for Jesus today?

Smile I know this just hit home!

God bless,
Marty

Gone With The Wind 7/19/2014

Good Morning,

My coffee this morning was chosen as a "comfort coffee". It seems that I twisted my knee a little bit yesterday and it kept me awake for most of the night. So I am sipping on a cup of Door County Christmas brew. It does nothing for my knee but it does help this pity party a little.

While looking at my knee last night I started to remember my younger days when jogging was fun and I could run like the wind. I spent many days running up steep hills along lake Michigan in preparation for football. But then the first of many knee surgeries took place after an injury. Those days of running and sports are over for sure. It doesn't take much to alter ones status. Gone with the wind!

We often see ourselves within the confines of our own abilities and accomplishments. These abilities and our accomplishments are like vapor. They can be gone with the next wind. Nothing Earthly will ever last. But they things we do for the Kingdom of God in the name of Jesus Christ will last for eternity. I would imagine that some day all the trophies that my wife and I have collected will end up in a trash heap or sold. Why would my family want to save my Little League trophy? They wouldn't!
God sees us as more than our Earthly talents and abilities. He sees us as being able to be used for greater things than just throwing a football or tackling some other helmeted grid iron warrior.

We need to enjoy our accomplishments and our talents. They are a gift from God. But they are only temporary. We must also concentrate on the eternal.  You can and should have an impact on the lives around you. You could and should support a missionary who brings the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world. Our church supports a missionary and his wife who are living right in the middle of a hot mess in the Middle East. (Seems like a good place to be sharing Jesus and His love).

What treasure have you laid up in heaven? God keeps a trophy shelf for us all. He never tires of seeing what His children do in His name. Your report card is on His refrigerator.

Matthew 6:19-21New Living Translation (NLT)

Teaching about Money and Possessions

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

When starting out in an athletic area we are always advised to get a health evaluation first. My Doctor always checks my heart ( Just to see if I have one. LOL) to see if it is healthy for me to pursue my life as is.  Check your heart and see if it beats for God eternal? Check to see if you have a heart at all for Jesus.

Enjoy the day. It will be gone tonight!

Airliner Down. We Must Pray. 7/18/2014

Good Morning,

It's hard to write about coffee or Friday this morning. I am drinking a cup of Door County Hazelnut Crème Coffee today. But I must admit as delicious as I know it is, it is hitting a numb set of taste buds today. My body is going through the motions of life but it seems as if the world is spinning too fast for me.

Yesterday I came home and turned on the news just to hear that a civilian airline was shot down over the Ukraine and near the Russian border. Of course the whole world is pointing fingers as to who did it and of course their are differing opinions. Whoever did it knows who they are and their judgment day is their own to bear. Then in the next 15 minutes of the news I find that Israel put troops into the Gaza strip. I can't understand the fighting going on over there and of course the whole world has opinions. I want to scream and just say "knock it off".

I could scream all day long and it would never do any good. People are losing loved ones every day. And to shoot down an airliner of civilians that is just plain terrible.

I am calling on all of those who read this today to stop for a moment and pray for the families that have lost loved ones. Pray that the local churches step up to console those near them that hurt. Pray for the world leaders and ask God to take a heavenly crowbar and pull their heads out of their back sides. Also pray for those who hate one another enough to kill each day. Pray that they meet Jesus the Savior of the World. Pray that they can find peace and love through Him.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Please join me today for a time of silence and prayer.

Love to all.

Inside Out. 7/17/2014

Good Morning.

Thursday morning! Can you see Friday through the tops of your eyes? My coffee this morning is Door County Cherry Crème. I am looking forward to work today. I can honestly say that I am never bored. Each day brings a new challenge and at the end of the week a pay check. I do use the pay checks but sometimes it's the challenges that I enjoy most.

Psalm 41:11-12New Living Translation (NLT)
11 I know you are pleased with me,
for you have not let my enemies triumph over me.
12 You have preserved my life because I am innocent;
you have brought me into your presence forever.

Our text for today is like a breath of fresh air that fills your lungs and renews your strength, from the beginning of our verse in Psalm 41:11-12 which leads the reader by the hand to a safe haven where the Lord lifts you up with His reassuring, healing, restoring love to a place of great victory over any fearful inferiority complexes, into His Presence where there is peace, acceptance, joy, hope and victory. Even though God knows everything about us, all our failures and secret sins, nothing is hidden from Him, yet He still loves us. Oh, what peace and comfort does our text for today bring to our soul from Psalm 41:11 He knows us inside and out, and He holds us together, He never fails to stand us tall in His presence so we can look Him in the eye. My friends, if God be for us then who can stand against us?

Face today's challenge knowing God is there.

Love you all,

Marty

Leave Me Alone 7/16/2014

Good Morning World,

This morning is a cold one in Wisconsin for a July day. I slept with a window open and that gave me the need for hot coffee this morning. So the Door County Peanut Butter Crunch Coffee has to purposes and one of those is just to take the chill out of me.

1. Mark 1:35
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

In today's busy world it is often hard to find peace and quiet, especially if it is for prayer time. This time alone in prayer is important for us to be able to communicate our concerns and listen to God. I am not suggesting that we be rude and say "just leave me alone"! But yet we teach those around us to understand that this quiet time is life itself. I know when my wife has her prayer time. It is usually in the early afternoon when she comes home from work. She knows that mine is early mornings. We work hard not to interrupt that time. I can only count a few times on one hand when I was interrupted during prayer. This half hour to an hour has been some of the sweetest times in my life and some of the hardest. But much, much needed time was spent at the feet of Jesus.

So lead your family to do the same. Give them time alone with God. Join them in prayer later. Teach them to be prayerful. Give the gift of quiet. You never know, you might be the one being prayed for.

God bless,

Throwing Yourself A Parade 7/15/2014

Good Morning,

I planted grass seed last night and now hoping for a little rain to keep the soil moist. My coffee this fine morning is Door County Peanut Butter Crunch.

One of the requirements for those of us who are in management for the health care organization I work for is to make sure that those who report to us are engaged and recognized. A tool was created for us to hand out that asks each employee to write down what they like and how they want to be recognized for their accomplishments. Many write that they just want to be thanked in private. Some want to be thanked in public. Some of us managers were talking about the responses we received. I heard about one caregiver that said "throw me a parade with a cake".

Luke 6:45New King James Version (NKJV)
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart[a] brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

The language you use every time you speak is an expression of your thoughts. Every time you speak, your mind is on parade.

In the parades I have seen throughout my life I have watched clowns, dignitaries, celebrities, marching bands, veterans, and business go down the street. By listening and watching you could easily tell what their purpose in the parade was.

Each day we have the opportunity to share what is on our minds. We do it without realizing that we are talking. People form their opinions of the mind parade we show. They also know what is number one on our minds and hearts. In your daily parade of speech, out of the overflow of your heart and minds how often is Jesus the main theme of your parade? Or do you always throw a self centered parade of foolish talk or thoughts that promote you as the center of attention? Could others see Jesus on parade through your speech?

Food for thought today.

God bless,
Marty

Shoveling Dirt 7/14/2014

Good Morning,

Yesterday afternoon I finished moving the last of a large pile of dirt that was purchased for yard and lawn repair. Therefore this cup of Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee tastes better than ever as it washes down some arthritis medication. I am sore and tired today.

In order to do this chore I needed some tools. A shovel, a rake, a wheelbarrow, a broom and my back and arms were also thrown into the equation. The process is simple. Shovel the dirt into the wheelbarrow, take it to it's final destination, dump it out, spread it level, then jump on it to make sure it is compacted and will stay in place, add more if needed. This is very tiring.

Simple enough. I think many of us spread dirt every day and come home tired and crabby. What I am trying to say is that spreading gossip and slander is the same thing. We have to shovel it on to someone, make sure there is enough, and then jump on it to make it stick. Then if needed we have to add more. The reason we are tired and crabby is that once we start a rumor or slander on someone there never seems enough and we always have to add more. The process I performed yesterday could not have been done without getting myself sweaty and some of the dirt on my clothes and shoes. This my friends in the realm of gossip and slander is sin. When we are shoveling dirt on to someone we are actually in sin and creating a way for others to talk about us. (Reaping what you sow) Jumping on dirt takes effort and is painful to the one who is on the receiving end of the dirty gossip and slander.

Each day there is enough physical labor to perform at work, home or community. Why dirty (sin) yourself and get tired by shoveling gossip and slander?

Leviticus 19:16 You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD.

Enjoy your Monday. Buddy up instead of muddy up.

God bless,
Marty

Sunday Morning Music 7/13/2014

Good Morning,

My coffee this morning was Door County Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti. It was especially nice today because I was able to share the morning java with visiting family members.

As I was preparing breakfast for our visitors early this morning I was listening to the Country Western versions of old Gospel Hymns. I enjoyed the "Old Rugged Cross", "He Touched Me", and others. To be honest with you, that is pretty much the norm for me. Everyone has their own taste in music that they would prefer to listen to and worship with. But I want to point out one style of music that I think we can all agree on. The music of family and friends together enjoying a breakfast early on a Sunday Morning can be sung and played in any key. The two of us have had an empty nest for a lot of years. So visitors are always welcome and we enjoy the conversation that is had and just the noise of a busy kitchen. This is music for the soul. The crunch of Cheerios, or the crackle of bacon frying, the coffee gurgling, add some laughter and the please and thank you, or pass the bacon and you have a concert of hospitality and love. I think that we can all agree that the music of love and hospitality is a great way to prepare for Sunday worship. You see God at work during these times. He provided everything to eat and a roof to eat under. God created family and wants us to have friends.

This is music, music, music.
2 Kings 4:8
Now there came a day when Elisha passed over to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman, and she persuaded him to eat food. And so it was, as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat food.
Enjoy your Sundays. Let them start early. Eat breakfast with someone.

 God bless,

Which Way To Turn? 7/12/14

Good Morning,

There is a little fog in the area this morning. Not only is the fog on the ground but also in my head today. So my cup of Door County Cherry Crème Coffee needs to help clear my head. Lots to do today.

Yesterday I promised to write about making decisions. I wrote about checking the impact your decisions could have personally, locally, and eternally for yourself and others. It would be so easy if we could just walk outside and speak with a burning bush like Moses did. We have to be patient and let the Lord direct in his time. He will speak through Scripture, prayer and others. That leads me to the next point. I know the Lord's voice. But even at my age there are times when I can get confused and have my own voice be heard over God's.

The counsel of wise friends and mentors is a blessing.
Spiritually mature friends and mentors can be wonderful resources in decision making. Consult wise believers about major life choices such as choosing a spouse, beginning a new or risky business venture, or moving across the country for a job opportunity.

When things get that confusing I recommend seeking other Christian counsel. Now, seek someone you know that is grounded in the Lord and who will tell you things you need to hear and won't just agree with you to be popular with you.

Psalm 1:1 says, “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.” Sometimes our friends couldn’t be described as “wicked,” but they aren’t passionate about God, either. Make sure to check their Spiritual Barometer before seeking counsel.

Most of all rely on God's Word to direct. if you are not clear and God is silent, do not make a move. Wait on Him and stay in prayer while reading Scripture.

Concentrate on the following Bible passages and ask the Holy Spirit to increase your understanding of God’s truth. Again I say wait on the Lord for clear direction. Over the last few days I have been just slowly dining on this all you can eat buffet of God's Word to help me sort out some thoughts.

Ephesians 4:17-21, NIV

“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.”

1 Peter 1:14-15, NIV

“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.”

Romans 12:2, NIV

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

James 1:22, NLT

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”

Matthew 13:18-23, NIV

“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means. When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

John 18:37, NIV

“In fact, for this reason I (Jesus) was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

John 14:6, NIV

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

John 8:31-32, NIV

“Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”

John 16:13, NIV

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.”

Luke 11:34-36, NIV

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness.  See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.”

Psalm 25:5, NLT

“Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”

Psalm 26:3, NIV

“For your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in your truth.”

Psalm 40:11, NIV

“Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me.”

Psalm 86:11, NLT

“Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.”

John 3:21, NIV

“But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

1 Corinthians 13:6, NIV

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”

I wish I could say that the decision making process is over for me. But I am more at peace knowing that I am seeking the direction in the right way, not moving slowly, but not making any decisions at all until God clearly speaks. I can see that in some of this wrestling match of decisions I was actually wrestling with myself. Now with me out of the way, Scripture, prayer and counsel have a better shot at getting into my heart and mind.

I have to say that I have preached this method to others and now it's time to practice what I preach.

God bless,

Marty

Wrestling With Decisions 7/11/2014

Good Morning,

I have to start very early at work today. My coffee is Door County Cherry Crème and it tastes wonderful. Friday is here and we are blessed to have my Aunt visiting with us for a couple days.

Every now and then I come to a crossroads in life. Usually for me the crossroads also contains a turnabout and a few sleepless nights in prayer and consultation. Sometimes I hit two crossroads at the same time. Decisions usually need to be made when you least expect it. I am putting together some checks and balances while sorting out some choices that need to be made.

When making choices, along with considering how we can glorify God the best, we also should consider how our choices affect others. The Bible says, "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God" (Heb. 13:16). In other words, when making choices, let us "look not only to [our] own interests, but also to the interests of others" (Phil. 2:4). Broadly speaking this means our choices should not hurt, but benefit other people.  We should be kind, and merciful to our neighbor and do what we can to advance his well being . We should think of this when we make decisions.

More narrowly, and more importantly, our choices should be edifying and beneficial for other Christians (Heb. 10:24). In fact, we should "do good to everyone, especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Gal. 6:10). Our decisions should benefit Christians—we should think of them when we make choices. When facing a major decision, we do what is best for other Christians; we choose the decision that will be most beneficial to Christ's church. In other words, our choices should help other Christians better glorify God; it should help them worship better and grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Our choices should help other Christians better keep the commandments.

This check and balance doesn't excuse making decisions that are only popular. In many instances the decision that is best for others and the majority might be the hardest to make and not always the most popular at the moment, but would be best for the Kingdom of God.

Tomorrow I will share some more decision making checks and balances.

God Bless,
Marty

Good Evening 7-10-14

Good Evening.

The world kind of got a little busy yesterday and I found my candle burning at both ends. I needed to unscramble my brain so I was unable to post a blog this morning. Tomorrow will be back to normal.

Mark 6:31

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."

Don't Forget the Banana 10:25

Good Morning,

My coffee of choice today is Door County Peanut Butter Crunch. I feel like breaking out another pot of Christmas Coffee this week. Maybe Saturday?

I have always liked this quote. I don't know who wrote it so I cannot give credit to the wise writer. Nor can I take credit for this one.

"Remember the banana- when it left the bunch it got skinned"

Hebrews 10:25New King James Version (NKJV)
25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

This is so true, so very true. We are to be members of a church. We are to be there to help one another, encourage each other, love each other and battle for one another.

1 Peter 5:8New King James Version (NKJV)
Be sober, be vigilant; because[a] your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

When I see people who backslide and miss church way too often or decide that they can worship alone, I am perplexed. This is not how God intended us to exist within Christianity. We are to be a part of His family. I see people go out and try on their idea of life without accountability, spiritual growth and community and I see them fall flat on their face. Many times they will then blame the church because "no one reached out to me, I wasn't fed enough, I didn't fit in". What I say to that is "really"????????? You did not extend yourself either or you really wanted the world more than you wanted a family.

We all need accountability, teamwork, help and love. It gets lonely and dangerous out there alone.

Are you in a bunch? Or are you ready to be mashed into banana bread?

God bless,
Marty

Getting In The Last Word 7/8/2014

Good Morning,

My coffee cup is filled with Door County Hazelnut Crème today. I am a little sore from shoveling piles of dirt last night. But by the grace of God my sleep was very peaceful. The labor felt good and the yard is coming along slow but sure.

Proverbs 6:2-3New King James Version (NKJV)
You are snared by the words of your mouth;
You are taken by the words of your mouth.
So do this, my son, and deliver yourself;
For you have come into the hand of your friend:
Go and humble yourself;
Plead with your friend.

Often when two people argue, neither is satisfied until they can have the last word in the dispute. I know a sure fire way to get in the last word. Apologize!!!!!!!  Most of the world's problems and conflicts could probably be resolved if, instead of revenge or retaliation apologies were made all around.

I say amen to that!

God bless,
Marty

The Most Important Project 7/7/2014

Good Morning,

Cherry Crème Coffee from the Door County Coffee Company has filled my cup twice already and now I am off to work.

Last night after supper I went out to the garage to finish a couple small chores before the rain storms were to come. I trimmed some rose bushes and put away chairs that won't be used again for awhile. Once those two chores were complete I started in on a project that my grandson and I began a few weeks ago. We started refinishing an antique medicine cabinet. Dominick had stripped off all of the old paint and had it ready for repainting. As I worked on the refinishing my thoughts went to wondering how it would look when it is finished. I see many nights slowly painting each side with several coats of paint. My thoughts turned to our grandson and how hard he worked on the cabinet.

The two of us worked on several projects together this last month. But the most important project was just spending time together sharing fun times and knowledge. Yes we shared knowledge. Dominick showed me a few things around a computer and tools that I had not learned so far in this lifetime. I was able to show him how to shoot a clay target and clean a gun. But the most important part was the time we spent discussing life, praying and talking about the daily devotions we read. I really enjoyed this last month. I need to be thankful to God for this time.

1 Timothy 6:17New International Version (NIV)
17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Have a great day. Enjoy a project, enjoy a kid, enjoy talking about God. Be blessed.

Sunday Morning Bacon 7/6/2014

Good Morning,

I awoke to a very mild morning, the sun is shining, a slow breeze is blowing through the house and there are birds chirping everywhere. The quiet is something I am enjoying along with a big cup of Door County Red Velvet Mocha Coffee.

We attend church on Saturday's at Faith Bible Church in Greenfield Wisconsin. Very often my wife is working at the medical center on Sunday's. Today is an exception. We are both home and our grandson who has been with us for about a month must fly home to Florida later today. Most of the time we are cereal type people at breakfast time. Dom Likes Lucky Charms. Rene is a big Cheerios fan and I eat oatmeal. A few times this month however when we have been traveling and were able to eat breakfast at a restaurant I noticed that Dom likes bacon with whatever he orders which was usually pancakes and chocolate milk.

So today Papa is making bacon (Neuske's maple smoked)and pancakes. This has caused me to go back in my memory bank of Dominick and recall breakfasts with him when he was a little boy. The days of Mickey Mouse pancakes or Krispy Kreme doughnuts with sprinkles seem to be gone. I hear he now frequents Starbucks not for what I would call coffee but one of their "coffee malts".

You see the little boys has grown. He has a way to go yet but he actually needs and wants meat. I also recall watching him slip ham into his pockets so he could toss it later because "he was not a fan of ham". This was his way of saying I really don't like ham. I think that if he stuffs bacon into his pockets now it will be for a snack later.

Friends we are all expected to grow in our faith too. If you are satisfied with just attending church and listening to a message once a week, you are really only drinking milk and are stuck on your faith growth chart. By now you should desire more. More time in God's word (Bible) learning to feed yourself, more time in prayer, and by now seeking to serve others in love. No one can really grow with a sugar coated meal once a week. You need the meat that comes with growth.

1 Corinthians 3:2 CEB
I gave you milk to drink instead of solid food, because you weren't up to it yet.

Hebrews 5:12 CEB
Although you should have been teachers by now, you need someone to teach you an introduction to the basics about God's message. You have come to the place where you need milk instead of solid food.

Friends, it is time to put on your big boy and big girl pants and grow in your faith and love for the Lord. It's amazing, you might even get to extend your bedtime and stay up later. LOL.

God bless,

Marty

Antique Telephones and You. 7/5/2014

Good Morning,

Happy Saturday morning to all of you. My coffee this morning is Door County German Chocolate Cake. I am not moving to fast this morning. Yesterday was a day filled with activities for us and today will be the same. Our grandson Dominick has been staying with us this past month and he returns to Florida tomorrow. So there a few last day things we want to experience yet so grandpa will really need a nap tomorrow after Dom's flight takes off for home.

My wonderful wife Laurene (Rene) is a lover of antiques. Lucky for me that she is because at my age I qualify for antique status. On the mantel of our fireplace sits this antique telephone. It never rings, never delivers a message, nor does it receive any. It just sits there and looks old.

I was sitting in my chair last winter and it was looking at me and I was staring it down, wondering in my mind about all the calls that might have been made with that phone many years ago. Did it ever deliver a message of hope or cheer to someone? Or has it always just stood still adorning a shelf or for practical purposes just been useless? I guess you can already tell that my deepest thoughts are not too deep.

This message is to encourage those folks who are "shelf sitters". We are all one of a kind, designer made originals created by God. Not made to sit on the side but to contribute and be part of the world outside of the shelf we have made for ourselves or the shelf you were placed on by others.

Psalm 139:13-14New International Version (NIV)
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
None of us were made for a shelf. We are all made differently with different gifts or talents. That old phone never asks me "how was your day", or sends a message of "sorry to hear about that, how can I help?"
No matter the age, race or gender we can be involved in making a difference for others. Do you know that every face can smile? A smile can be aimed at any person in any direction. I had a dear friend who while dying from cancer made it a point to call people and ask them what prayer they might need prayed for. He would say, "while I am laid up I want to be useful". He did this right up until his last day.
We are not made to sit on a shelf. My heart goes out and breaks for those who have for one reason or another been placed on that shelf of hurt and loneliness  by others. You don't belong there. It's time to come down and be assured that you are a "Child of the King'" who made you and has given you talents that can be used.
Here are some ways to get involved. Find a volunteer organization that fits what you like to do. Maybe the local animal shelter? Maybe a hospital or nursing home? How about a youth organization that assists kids or teens? Maybe you are gifted in health care, I know some countries or local cities where you could assist for ten days.  Maybe you can knit or build things. Knit away, then give away. Many a child around the world could use a hat or mittens for the cold winters. Build useful things and donate them. There are many disabled veterans that could use a wheel chair ramp for their homes. Babysit for a mom who is trying to make ends meet and finish school.
Have you ever sat on a street corner on a super hot day and handed out cold bottled water  to the homeless? I have and was I popular!!!! But better yet I supplied a need and a lot of great conversation and encouragement. There was more to that day than just water.
Easier yet, send notes of encouragement. Make calls to others.  This list could go on for hours upon hours. You were made to be part of this world and to make it a better place. Age, race, gender, shyness are no excuses. You will find that coming off the shelf will make you feel alive and well, despite any circumstances you are experiencing.

Matthew 25:40New International Version (NIV)
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Get off the shelf and quit gathering dust. You can make a difference to others and yourself.

God bless,
Marty

United States Independence Day 7/4/2014

Good Morning,

I am indulging a weakness this morning. I am one of those nuts that can't wait until Christmas. I prefer the colder weather to summer. I am happiest in the fall and winter. Deep within the kitchen cupboards in our home I have a small supply left over (hoarded) of some of the Door County Coffee Company's fall and holiday coffees. So this morning I am drinking a few cups of Door County White Christmas Coffee. I can see the Christmas tree right now.

In the United States we are celebrating our Independence Day today. In 1776 we declared independence from England and a long war was fought to obtain our freedom and to govern ourselves with democracy. Many have fought and died to keep that freedom secure over and over again. For that I am truly thankful. I know that some of you who read this are in other countries where your freedom is limited. My heart goes out to you. Some of you who read this are in countries who have named the United States as "enemies". It might not even be legal for you to read this because of it's Christian basis. Me heart is extended to all of you also.

But I would like to talk about another freedom everyone has. The right to choose who you worship. God in heaven does not force Himself on us. He extends the gift of Himself through Jesus Christ His only Son. He sent Jesus to be the atonement for our sins. Never ever does He force us to believe that our worship Him. It is a choice that he gives. This is open to every person of every nation. Every color, every gender, every age can come to God through Jesus Christ, or not. This is true freedom. I am blessed to be in a country where I can express my choice openly. I do not need to hide my choice, nor do I wish to do so.

Joshua 24:15King James Version (KJV)
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

I made that choice many years ago on July 7th 1981. It was that day when my heart was lightened from a load that I could not carry. But it was my choice, No gun or threat was held to my head, just an offer of love, forgiveness and acceptance was made. An offer that I found hard to refuse.

Today many people are still without Jesus in their life and heart. They lack assurance of eternal life with God the Father in Heaven. Please accept this gift, or if possible tell someone about our loving God who extends His love to us through Jesus Christ.

Have a great day.

Be At Peace 7/3/2014

Good Morning.

It is Thursday and I can see Friday just over the top of my glasses. I am starting the day with a cup of Door County Heavenly Caramel Coffee. I will also be taking a thermos filled with the same for later today.

Peace, is very hard to define. I see a foggy marsh with the sun coming up in October, ducks quacking in the dark and I am at peace. I see the flag of surrender after a long war and both sides agreeing to stop a conflict and I see peace. I see a small baby asleep in the arms of a parent and I see peace. I see to elderly people sitting together watching the fireplace glow and I see peace. I see someone passing from the life with the saving assurance that they have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and I see peace.

God loves all of us and expects us to try to live at peace with one another. We all know that this is a choice and that evil has crept into the world and intends on staying until God calls the end to evil. It is the evil within the world and within the human race that causes conflict. But yet God does not allow us to use evil as an excuse. We are to live at peace with each other. And as for us individually we are to strive for peace even if the other party does not want it.

Romans 12:18New International Version (NIV)
18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

So today as hard as you can, try to bring peace to your part of the world by showing the love of Jesus to others through you.

God bless,
Marty

Sympathy 7/2/2014

Good Morning,

Today is a great day to be alive. It is the middle of the week and there is Friday just waiting ahead of me. My coffee this morning is Door County Peanut Butter Crunch.

Yesterday morning I received some news about someone I hired while in another position within the company I work for. I was told that this young lady had passed away unexpectedly in the night. Her new manager was very shaken and I can say that the news floored me also. I prayed for her family after the phone call and for her co-workers.

Later last night as I was thinking and praying and her co-workers were on my mind. Those guys reported to me for a long time. I did not know what to say to them that could help. But I made a few phone calls anyway. We chatted and it was good. School never tells you what to say at times like these. But we can have compassion and just pass it forward. Being visible or making a phone call to others is about all you can do sometimes. Don't let people go it alone. Let them know you care. They don't care about how much you know until you show them how much you care.

Practice compassion.

Colossians 3:12
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,

It is one of God's ways of revealing Himself to others who hurt.

Love to all.

Working Hard 7/1/2014

Good Morning,

My eyes are a little heavy this morning. The coffee is just finishing. The flavor of the day is Door County German Chocolate Cake. Normally I have the coffee pot set and it automatically brews at 4:00 AM. But last night I worked into the night and returned home in a storm. To say the least I am a little tired this morning.

Friends I am not complaining about work. I am blessed to have a very good job. From time to time though a long day will need to be done. I am sure you all have those days also. It is during those times and through just normal days that we need to remember who we represent while at work.

Colossians 3:23New International Version (NIV)
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

We are God's representatives where we work or play. You might be the only example of Jesus anyone sees. So when you are about to slack off like everyone else. Remember the verse above.

God bless,
Marty
