It's Out Of Control 5/31/2023

 Good Morning,

I am waiting on my hot pot of Door County Peanut Butter Crunch Coffee to finish brewing. I believe I will take a road cup with me today.

The national news was not the best last night. It was reported that the three day holiday weekend had 125 people either killed or wounded in the United States. If you put 12 people in a room together and ask them how to solve the killing you might get 12 different ideas. Some will blame the guns and fast cars. Some will blame drugs that cause people to do desperate things. Some will blame status held within society. Some will blame the schools and churches for not doing enough. Each argument can be validated and also disregarded at the same time.

It all comes down to respect, and fear for God. You want to change actions, then start with the hearts of men, women and children. Go back to teaching right from wrong, Hold people accountable for their actions and see how many want to break the law after working on a chain gang. Don't be afraid to take away cars and add hard work to a jail sentence.

Most of all show people the way to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Teach the little ones respect for the law and other people. Don't blame the implements of death and destruction. Blame the lawless person who decides to take a life with a car, knife or a gun.

It is a very clear stand God takes on murder. Exodus 20:13 Thou shall not murder.

But a reprobate will not respect or observe the laws of God, let alone live productively and peacefully within society. ( Reprobate, a person without moral scruples.) If you are a member of a church and your church does not have a prayer night, start one and begin praying for revival. It is the one true solution. Food for thought.

Chivalry Is Not Dead 5/30/2023

 Good Morning,

It's early and I must write a little quicker today, but I still have time to enjoy some Door County Peanut Butter Crunch Coffee.

Philippians 2:3 do nothing from self ambition and conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourself.

Last Sunday evening I took some time to sit out in our driveway. Normally I like to sit in the back yard on the patio with a glass of Sweet Peach Iced Tea and a bonfire. Changing up my habit a little I moved my relaxation to the front yard so I could wave to the dog walkers and maybe interact with a few. While listening to some easy on the ears tunes and day dreaming, I noticed the teens from across the street. This is a nice family and the kind of neighbors you desire to have on your block. The kids are full of accomplishments that are note worthy. But what I saw warmed my heart from the inside out and made my day.

Three teens came out of the house and were going somewhere in the car. ( Two girls and one young man) The young man went to the passenger side of the car (he was the driver) and opened the front door. One young lady waited and allowed him to open the car door for her and after she was seated, he closed the door. He then repeated the kind and respect filled gesture for the young lady waiting at the back door of the car. What an awesome display of good manners and respect! The good old days were replayed right in front of my eyes and I went to bed later with a smile on my heart. I must commend those teens for two things. 1 The young man exhibited respect and kindness toward the ladies. 2.The girls were ladies and allowed the young man to treat them as such. This is by no means an attack on women who would rather open there own door, but for me I applaud the chivalry and kindness I witnessed. Those kids are a product of a good home where respect and kindness were taught. My hat goes off to the parents!

I wish our world had more respect and kindness. Maybe the good old days are not dead.

A Day To Remember 5/29/2023

 Good Morning,

Sunshine is once again coming through the window of our den and our oldest dog Gibbs found a spot on the floor where he can bask in the warmth of the gift from God. I just poured a hot cup of Door County Heroes Blend Coffee and it it time to write.

Today in America we observe Memorial Day. We remember those who served in the military and died on the battlefield. These men and women made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Many families throughout the years received some type of notice that their loved one will not be returning home. And life was never the same.

In April 1863, in Columbus. Mississippi, after decorating the graves of her two sons, who died representing their beloved South-Land, and elderly woman, walked to two mounds of dirt at the corner of the cemetery to place memorial flowers there also. "What are you doing? friends shouted. Those are the graves of two Union soldiers." Softly that compassionate mother said. "I know. I also know that somewhere up North, a mother or a young wife mourns for them as we do for ours."

That loving deed set in motion our celebration and remembrance day known as Memorial day. We honor the war dead once a year, but their sacrifice is evident every single day of the year. Because of their sacrifice we are free today and have the right to gather ourselves together and worship God.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.

As we are thankful today for those who sacrificed their lives let us also remember and respect the families who lost them. Take some time to pray for peace. God bless.

The Truth. Nothing But The Truth 5/28/2023

 Good Morning,

My day started with prayer and a hot cup of Door County Sunrise Roast Coffee. It is time to write.

You can't close your eyes to a fact that is hard to embrace.  Society seems to be embracing evil more and more. The daily news has become a shock wave every day with the murders and other heinous crimes that seem to be happening more and more. People inherently know right from wrong and they choose to do wrong. In fact some people have done horrible things in the name of Christianity, perverting God's truth.  Nations, communities and families try to rule and establish order without recognizing and relying on God.

When we deny the reality that God exists bad things happen. You see more lawlessness on the increase.

Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God,"  They are corrupt, their deeds are vile, none of them do good.

It is time to embrace the truth about God, practice His ways, and know Him and His love. Choose this day whom you serve. But as for me and my house we choose the Lord.

Have a blessed day.

The Arrow Not Aimed 5/27/2023

 Good Morning,

The sun is shining through the window this morning and it is just beautiful. I just poured a hot mug of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee and it is time to write.

School graduations are now upon us. It is that time of year when we will be celebrating a few milestones with friends of ours who have children graduating from high school or college. From what I know those graduating within our scope of friends and family all have some pretty well mapped out plans for the future.

"An Arrow Not Aimed Will Never Hit Anything".

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Now the graduates did not just wake up yesterday and say "here is my plan". These young men and women formed ideas and exhibited traits to their parents years ago. I watched a few grow up and they were active in school and society. They had solid hobbies and attended school faithfully. The parents saw the way the kids leaned toward and helped build upon that. You could say "they helped to aim the arrow." An arrow not aimed most often hits nothing. Time spent with your child or those in your circle of influence is very important. To find their interests and what they are bending toward and then help them obtain their goal is a duty and a privilege at the same time, especially for parents.

This starts at an early age and at times will last for 20 years or more. Some careers offer more choices later on.

Back in old testament times, bows and arrows were not manufactured in a precision type factory. They were hand made and each bow had a curve to it. The successful shooter knew how his or her bow was bent and then compensated by adjusting their aim right, or left.

It is easier to help aim a child in the right direction when we know how they are "bent" and what suits them personally. So as today goes my point is this. Help those under your influence to set goals toward the way they are bent. Help when you can by giving support toward that goal. It is important that they be aiming at something and going for it. A couch is not a career unless you are building them, designing them, selling them or are a psychiatrist.

Have a great day.

Thank You Lord For A Great Day 5/26/2023

 Good Morning,

I am running behind this morning in writing today. I just poured a hot mug of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee and now I am ready to write.

Psalm 118:24. This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:1 Praise to God for His everlasting mercy. His love endures forever.

Have you ever had just one of those days when everything worked out great? From the morning until I fell asleep last night, I would have to say that it was a great day. Nothing exceptional happened to be note worthy. On the other hand nothing bad happened. The weather was perfect yesterday. I attended an outing with coworkers. I saw a couple old friends I hadn't seen in quite some time. I shared in reading my wife's birthday cards and we went out to eat to celebrate her big day. I laughed more yesterday than usual. I enjoyed yesterday. We should be grateful for every day we are given and I am. I just prayed and said thank you to God for yesterday. In my prayer of thanks I thanked Him for today. I know not what today will bring, but I am here to experience it. Every day is a gift from God. A friend once said to me "You win some. You lose some. Some get rained out. But you always dress to play the game."

My thought for the day is this. We are blessed to be here and for some, today is a tough one. But you my friends make it better by just being here. Those who love you are glad you are here. You might be part of making another person's day a great day.

Hopefully this finds you all blessed, content and smiling. You all were just prayed for. You are important!

Something Was Missing 5/25/2023

 Good Morning,

I just poured a very hot cup of Door County Caramel Pecan Scones Coffee and I used it to warm up a little.

Two days ago the weather was nice and warm. I worked outside all day and kept myself hydrated pretty well. But something was missing. About 10:00am I figured it out. I hadn't made my first pitcher of sweet peach tea. I stopped all work for a few minutes and the sun tea container came out, was filled with water, peach nectar, and some green tea bags, I hold off on the sugar until it is done sunning itself. That pitcher of tea will be the first of many this summer.

Yesterday when I returned home from work, my wife Rene met me at the door with a glass filled with sweet peach iced tea. Why am I obsessed with writing about tea? It wasn't the tea that was special it was the greeting I received from my wife.

Today is her birthday and although we have been married for 1000 years she is only 29 years old according to her. I might be aging and my brain gets foggy, but it seems that she was 29 years old last year and the year before that!

As each year goes by I find that it's the small things that she does which makes me appreciate her more and more.  Friends, we all should not have to look very hard to find some kind thing that we can do for our spouse, children, or friends now and then. That small act of kindness might be just what was missing in someone else's day. Go ahead and let the kindness within you spill over and add some sugar to someone's day.

Planting The Flowers 5/24/2023

 Good Morning,

My cup was just filled with very hot Door County Pretzel Toffee Coffee and it is time to write.

Proverbs 31:10-11 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11. The heart of her husband safely trusts her. She will have no lack of gain.

I spent most of yesterday planting flowers in our gardens and pots. Normally my wife Rene works with me and we accomplish that annual event together. This year finds Rene working with her family to close out their mother's house. They have been extremely busy in doing so. Rene's mom has also had a barrage of appointments that needed to be kept. Rene has also been busy taking Mother to her appointments. There really is no time for her to work on the flowers before Memorial Day

Last week I mentioned the flowers to her and asked if she minded if I went and purchased them and planted everything. At first she was hesitant, just as if I were 16 years old and asked to use the car. I assured her that in the 1000 years we have been married I believed I was well trained as to what she likes for flowers. I missed working with her, but since Rene has a birthday this week I did not want her to be gardenless. My gift to her was this project. She consented to let me go for it.

I am not trying to brag about my accomplishment. Nothing is really growing yet. I am saying this. My wife is worth every drop of sweat I put into the project. And if the flowers bring her any happiness at all my mission was accomplished. Sometimes people won't ask for help. There comes a time that you just have to step up and go for it.

God bless,

Marty

God's Little Creatures 5/23/2023

 Good Morning,

A hot cup of Door County Pretzel Toffee Coffee is next to me this morning and it is time to write.

I have been writing some pretty heavy handed topics lately so I want to change it up a little today and be more light hearted.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.

Romans 1:20 For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

As I look out into God's creation, and in my lifetime, seen some amazing things like waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes, blizzards, great rivers and lakes I can't help but to know that God exists. I would like you to think about this also today, maybe as the sunrise warms your face or tonight as the sun goes down and turns the sky orange. Where you stand in place, there is just you. The person next to you isn't in the exact same spot as you. What you see is the view the Master painted for you, just for you. No one else sees it from that exact same angle. He knew where you would be standing or sitting and that view is yours alone.

Now that we have established the fact that you and I are loved enough to have a seat at the Master's art studio we can move on to the next thought. It is very often that we stand in awe of the larger creations of God. I find a small bay that is just skimmed with it's first ice and me wading in it to set my duck decoys an awesome sight. But God also has placed great majesty and wonder into some of His smallest creatures. A friend of mine captured a few photos not long ago and shared them. If you are blessed to have hummingbirds near by, you can see the intricacy of God's paint brush on the view you have. We planted wild flowers that are supposed to attract hummingbirds but are rarely blessed to witness their presence.

The main thing I want to point out today is how special you are and that God paints portraits just for you to see. You are loved and no one can take that away from you. Let your view of the art of today take your breath away as you recall that your view is yours and yours alone.

Changing Of The Guard 5/22/2023

 Good Morning,

I will go after some Door County Blueberry Cobbler Coffee later this morning. I am ready to write.

For the last few days our grandson has been visiting with us. He returns to Georgia later this morning. I just dropped him off at the airport. We had a fun three days and packed in with the fun was some plain old good talk that went on.

Psalm 20:4 May He grant your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans.

One thing we were able to do and Grandma went along with us was to do some sporting clay shooting. Grandma was the official score keeper and she ran the trap buttons. It was nice for all three of us to be out there together. It's come to be that time in life when all the young kids that I took out shooting and humbled  almost all of the time can outshoot me now.  Yesterday was no exception. At the end of the shooting and Grandma tallied the score, Grandpa was humbled with the low score. There was some pride in our grandson's eyes as it is always a good feeling to win against your teacher.

For me, it was a proud moment to see and know that the now "Man" was at least taught one thing by the old dude.

As I sit and write my heart is heavy because it probably won't be until January that we see him and our daughter again. There is just only so much time to say what you want to say in a long weekend. So my advice or comment of the day is this. Cherish the good times and make sure to start planning the next visit. It is always heart warming to have something to look forward to. And my friends, you deserve a warm heart!

Frustration, It's Hard to Deal With. 5/21/2023

 Good Morning,

Daylight has just started to pierce the sky and the morning is full of song birds waking up. I just poured a hot mug of Door County Country Morning Blend Coffee and It is time to write.

My Coffee is delicious. The temperature is just right and I guess that should be good enough for me. Last night while dining in the city with family and a friend, as we left the restaurant to go home, that is when we discovered  our truck had been broken into, ransacked and some items were stolen. I was reminded several times that it was  good that we hadn't gone outside sooner and got ourselves into an altercation with the thieves. For a long time last night my pride was taking over and I was wishing that I had encountered the thieves and it might have been a different deal.

But as I sit here being reminded that you cannot protect personal property with force and the fact that I am not 21 years old anymore, the situation could have been much worse. The items stolen from our truck can all be replaced. The damage to the truck body can be repaired. What was really stolen was the good time we were enjoying with people we love. In the long run we will probably not return to that area anymore. That experience was also stolen. But one thing for sure is this. All four of us are home, safe and sound and we are all still here to be able to enjoy family and friendship. I found a Bible verse to help me deal with the frustration of the whole mess.

Psalm 37:7-8 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. Do not fret because of  him who prospers in his way. Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Do not fret, it only causes harm.

Just sitting here thinking. It could have been much worse.

The Old Man Grows Older 5/20/2023

 Good Morning,

I am writing pretty early this morning as I am headed out to see how our youngest dog Leo does on his hunt test today. I just poured a hot mug of Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee and I am ready to write.

Yesterday our grandson came for a visit and not everything worked out as planned. But we always have a back up plan. Dominick helped me unload firewood from my truck that I had picked up earlier. It wasn't too long before we tackled splitting some of the logs that were setting on the side of the garage. It wasn't the first time the two of us tackled a project or two. But this time I yielded the splitting mall to the man and just sat back as he whacked at the wood. It was apparent that this younger man was able to split that wood a lot faster than I can now. Watching him reminded me of my younger years when I thought that splitting firewood was fun and a great workout at the same time. Now I consider it to be exercise and a chore that is at times a pain in the keester.

I went to bed thinking about some of the time we spent when Dom was younger and where did that time go? My conclusion for the day is this . There once was a man and a boy. The boy grew older and so did the old man. That is a fact of life.

2 Corinthians 4:16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

God bless,

Marty

Falling Back To The Bible 5/19/23

 Good Morning,

I am anticipating a great day this Friday morning. Our grandson will be flying in today for a long weekend. We are looking forward to that plane landing. I just poured a large cup of Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee and it is time to write.

In recent days I have heard more and more people just exclaim that they seem to be wandering with no hope. They lack direction and even the smallest of things are a huge endeavor for them. In a couple of instances I asked the troubled soul if they had a Bible and if they did, do they read it. In general they did not own a Bible and if they did they hadn't looked at it for a long time.

I find that if I stay away from reading God's Word, I slowly find myself wondering why and how I am to get through some days. Life as many of us know is stressful and overwhelming at times. God loves us so much that He left us with a "Users Manual" to fall back on and read that we might get through each day.

Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

I have this macho attitude at times that literally makes me stumble. For instance when assembling a new gas grill I just set the assembly instructions aside and started putting it together. It wasn't long before I realized that A was meant to go with C and not B and the grill was not going to stand level. Then I decided to read the directions and start over. Only if I had read the directions. I would have saved a lot of time and frustration. Not to mention my wife's inevitable "I told you so"

The Bible is always there to fall back on and regroup. Why not be in it before hand and feed on it daily?

Endure Your Discipline 5/18/2023

 Good Morning,

The Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee is brewing in the kitchen as I write. The aroma made it upstairs and to the den. I am ready for that first cup.

Hebrews 12:7 Endure hardship as discipline.: God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

When your life resembles a tornado, hurricane and an earthquake all at the same time, you might say why is this happening to me? A good place to start would be to ask God what needs to be improved in your own behavior. You just might be the one who is bringing the calamity upon yourself. God allows the calamity to gain your attention and He uses the sad situations as punishment, hoping you will snap to!

And on second thought if you have to ask God what is wrong with your own behavior, well then you are an "Idiot". You know your transgressions and you know right from wrong.

So fix your behavior and some of the calamity might just disappear.

Food for thought.

You Are My Shade 5/17/2023

 Good Morning,

I am headed out early this morning for work. On these early days I always carry a Thermos bottle filled with coffee. This morning my Thermos bottle is filled with Door County Pecan Cinnamon Ice Cream Coffee and it will hold me over for the rest of the day.

I was working on a study that requires listing all the things God is for me. We are to use supporting Scripture and also we are to try and think out of the box.

Not long ago I was splitting some fire wood by hand and it was rather warm outside. I had worked up a good sweat and was thinking about going inside for a five minute rest and some cold water. Just as I set the axe down my wife came outside with a large glass of iced tea and a towel to dry my face. I sat in the shade drinking my tea and then it came to me.

God provided the shade of the tree to cool me. God gave me a wife that cares enough about me to keep me hydrated. God provided shade and water for me.

Psalm 121:5 The Lord watches over you. He is the shade at your right hand.

Isaiah 43:20 The beasts of the field will glorify Me. The jackals and the ostriches. because I have given water in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. To give drink to my chosen people.

Psalm 123:1 The Lord is my Shepherd , I shall not want.

Food for thought,

Marty

Sending The Right Message 5/16/2023

 Good Morning,

We are home now, after a short vacation and as I sit down to write I am sipping on some hot Door County Cream Coffee. It was nice to be away, but it always nice to come home.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you are to answer each person.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come from you mouths, but only such is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it gives grace to those who hear.

There are so many social media platforms now and so many different ways to communicate that it is hard to know which methods to use. But whether it is electronic or snail mail it is always the best practice to draft your message to someone and then wait to send it. Read the message a couple more times or more before you drop it in a mail box or hit the send button. This is most important when you find yourself angry with the person you are going to send the message to. Take time to let the yourself calm down and take a moment to pray about your response. Once that message is mailed or sent, it is out there and usually cannot be recalled. I heard about an app that allows for stopping a text message from opening after you sent it. I wouldn't count on it being totally safe. Once that message hits the "Cloud" it is there and someone has the savvy to retrieve it.

Here is my point, frustration and anger on our plates does not always make good partners in the way we communicate. Sometimes the best messages are the ones that were never sent. When ironing out differences I believe the in person method is the best. If you feel that emotions are riding high, walk away and cool off. Pray and if needed seek a mediator. Don't act when emotions are high.

Send the right message!

God bless,

Marty

A Walk With Caution 5/15/2023

 Good Morning,

My day began with prayer and a hot cup of door County Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee. I found my glasses and now it is time to write.

The other day, my wife Rene and I were exploring different things in Door County Wisconsin. There were two lighthouses that we had yet to see during our travels to the area. We decided that this trip would be the trip to see them and get a photo or two. One of the light houses allows you to walk out to it via a concrete walkway/pier that goes from shore out to the lighthouse. There is a sign that warns people of the concrete walk way getting slippery when wet. The waves on lake Michigan were being quite a little bit contrary and the further you walked out the wetter the concrete was getting. We went so far and Rene decided that it was about as much risk as she was going to expend and she stopped. The daredevil in me wanted to go further and I did. Then a small wave blasted against the the walk way and got my shoes a little damp. I then decided it was a good idea to heed the warnings. Better to venture out another day than to risk a disaster. The sign and the wave were enough of an omen to keep me from letting my ego and pride take over. Common sense was the rule of the day.

Friends, there are sixty six books in the Bible and I believe in all sixty six as being the written word of God. I believe there are passages of prophecy, comfort, instruction, correction and warnings. They are within a heavy binder of love. Just as the sign on the pier was a warning to us to be careful, the Bible also holds cautionary instructions for all of us. It tells us all we need to know regarding our walk with God and at the same time how Satan wants to drown us in troubles. We would be a foolish hiker not to heed the warnings. We live life at our own risk when we navigate without God's Word.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

James 4;17 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Wise words for living. Have a great day.

Nana Buns Happy Mothers Day 5/14/2023

 Good Morning,

I am in Door County Wisconsin in front of a fireplace drinking of Course Door County Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee and taking my sweet time doing it. There is no rushing me to anything today.

Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging  on another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

My heart goes out today to all the ladies on the "Mother's Day" . My mother passed away 23 years ago and as I take some time to remember her today I can't help but feel a little sad. My mother although wouldn't tolerate me being a sad sack for too long. I do however feel sorry for my sibling and all the grand children she left behind. There is a large age gap between my daughter and the kids of my siblings. Of course our daughter and I had Mom/Nana around longer than the others. We really saw her in her healthier days and at her best.

Once Mom passed away my dad and I could never fill her shoes for the family. We just aren't the nurturing and compassionate kind of guys that could even attempt to fill that roll. We are more of the "Suck it up Butter Cup" kind of guys that could never ever fill the role of a mother. I did however master making Mom's bread rolls. Now and then I will make a batch and try to share them with family.

My point for today is this. Cherish the time you have, or had with your mother. Learn some of the traditions before it's too late and practice them in honor of her after she is gone. Don't forget what she taught you.

God Bless,

Marty

A Visit With Leo 5/13/2023

 Good Morning.

I set up the coffee maker to brew a hot pot of Door County Blueberry Coffee and it fired up right on time . It is time to write.

Psalm 145:14. The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who fall down.

Out youngest dog Leo has been staying at a kennel about 90 minutes away. He is working on some fine points for a hunt test that he is entered in. So we farmed him out for some professional help. My wife and I went to see him yesterday and spend some time with him. We watched as the trainer showed us some of the techniques and finer points that Leo has been working on. He did an amazing job until as he was holding to be released to retrieve a downed bird, a big feather from the bird that was shot drifted right in front of his face. He took his eyes off of the mark where the downed bird had landed. Leo was confused and knew that he blew it. With a couple hand directions Leo did find the bird and brought it back to hand.

The lesson for today is this. When we take our eye off of the mark we can easily lose our way. Leo knew he needed help. A whistle from the master and he sat, and looked back. The hand signals were given and he succeeded after the failure. This applies to us also. When we take our eye off of God and begin to wander from the path, we can stop, look back and wait for the Master to redirect our paths. God's mighty hand and gentle correction is all we need to right the way. Our duty is to desire to please Him and respond to the correction.

Nothing Is Hidden 5/12/2023

 Good Morning,

Friday arrived right on time and my mug of Door County Inn Keepers Blend Coffee never tasted better. It is time to write.

Hebrews 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.

In many ways people just are blinded to the fact that God sees all we do, hears what we say and knows what we think. Their view of God lessens with each lie, truth avoidance, and wicked thought. Pretty soon God is just some nice object that is supposed to make us feel good when we attend church. If people only feared God, respected Him for who He is and bowed before Him, life could be a lot sweeter. They equate other people with God. If "I can fool them" I can also fool God. Belief in Jesus Christ and possessing His salvation is not a license to keep living like you used to.

Food for thought, before you double dip on a coupon today!

There Will Be Peace In The Valley 5/11/2023

 Good Morning,

I just sat down to write and enjoy my cup of Door County Inn Keepers Blend Coffee. Let's see where this day takes us.

One of my favorite old Hymn is "Peace In The Valley" sung by Elvis Presley. The way it is sung presents the thought of hope for tomorrow and the desire for the blessing of peace. It bemoans a person who is weary from problems yet he knows that someday his life will be at peace. One statement the writer makes is that he desires a change in his lifestyle and part of the peace he will experience is a major change in himself.

Often at times we have peace running away from us and it seems impossible to find. We search for answers and serve up excuses while placing blame on others. True peace comes when we make changes in our life that support a peaceful outcome. People might think that we are part canine because we growl all day long. We are filled with sleepless nights and are "dog tired" because we growl and snarl all day long. If you are seeking peace in your valley, start by reading your Bible and live by the principle, Luke 6:31 Do Unto Others as you would have the do unto you.

 Lyrics Peace In The Valley

Oh well, I'm tired and so weary

But I must go alone'Til the Lord comes and callsCalls me away, oh yes
Well, the morning's so brightAnd the lamp is alightAnd the nightNight is as black as the sea, oh yes
There will be peace in the valley for me, some dayThere will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I prayThere'll be no sadness, no sorrowNo trouble, trouble I seeThere will be peace in the valley for me
Well the bear will be gentleAnd the wolves will be tameAnd the lion shall lay downBy the lamb, oh yes
And the beasts from the wildShall be lit by a childAnd I'll be changedChanged from this creature that I am, oh yes
There will be peace in the valley for me, some dayThere will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I prayThere'll be no sadness, no sorrowOh my Lord, no trouble, trouble I seeThere will be peace in the valley for me, for me

I Took Some Time 5/10/2023

 Good Morning,

The sunshine is streaming through the window as I begin to write. A hot cup of Door County Inn  Keepers Blend Coffee is next to me and all is good.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every prefect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

I returned home from a fast trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last night and it was good to be home. I was close to the town where my parents are buried and it has been a long time since I visited the cemetery. Being as close as I was, it was only fitting to stop and inspect the graves and pay my respects. There are several other relatives buried there and I took some time at their graves also and had some fond memories. I was in a hurry to get home, so visiting others in town just couldn't happen this time.

I didn't expect the visit to the cemetery to have the impact it had on me. The memories that flooded my mind and my heart were all good, but my mood changed to somber and quiet for the rest of the day. As a matter of fact I am still a little melancholy this morning as I search for the words to write. The time spent was short. I will say this. It was good to stroll the cemetery. It triggered fond memories and it also reminded me of how much I miss those who are gone on before me. It also reminded me to keep making memories with those I still have with me.

My point for today is this. In the end after the houses are sold and inheritances are doled out. You might have a keepsake or two stashed away, but all you really have are your memories. So make as many memories as you can! Enjoy the good times as much as you can, because those strolls through the cemetery can be rather lonely. God bless.

A Trip That Had To Be Taken 5/9/2023

 Good Morning,

I am on a short road trip and am away from my usual coffee and gas station coffee will have to do. That is my last whining for the day.

Hebrews 13:16. Do not forget to do good and to share with others. This pleases the Lord.

It is an important trip for a friend of ours and I am blessed to be able to help with getting her there. Given the route we are taking I will be able to make a stop for myself that is long overdue. I will write about it tomorrow and where I needed to go.

Sometimes we need to just help out our friends when we can. This is the case for this trip. We need to take the focus off of ourselves now and then and lend a hand if possible. We can and I do get wrapped up in my own life way too much. I then become oblivious to to others in need and miss the call or plea for help. Most people will share a problem with you but never ask for the help they need. If we are really listening there is a hidden plea for help and we should offer the help even if it is inconvenient. They are more likely to accept help if you offer it than they are comfortable to ask for help. Learn to listen.

God Bless,

Marty

Sleep Peacefully 5/8/2023

 Good Morning,

I have more than a busy week ahead of me and it started today. I just poured a hot cup of Door County Inn Keepers Blend Coffee and it is time to write. I expect this day to last long into the night.

Psalm 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Sleep is often overlooked and not valued enough. A restless sleep is like a pot roast that no matter what you do to it the meat is tough and hard to chew. God values our sleep more often than we do. In the passage above we see that we can lie down in peaceful sleep, but there is a condition that needs to be met. It is in the statement "For You Alone Lord" we should see that we should surrender our worries, our stress, our anger over to the Lord and accept His providence and will. You can't make war with others all day long and then shut it off and get some rest. Most of the time you will find that your sleep time is spent wrestling with your own evil of the day and worse yet struggling with the day ahead. Make me dwell in safety requires the submission to God, His leadership and His ways.

Take some time to examine yesterday and today before you go to bed. If you have entertained thoughts of anger, rage and "whoa is me" attitudes don't expect to sleep well. God gave us the recipe for sleep, desires that we do sleep, and it is up to us to follow His Word.

Rest well tonight my friends!

Looking At A Blessing. 5/7/2023

 Good Morning,

I am fully awake today and I am ready to write. I just poured a hot cup of Door County Raspberry Almond Coffee and it is time to start.

Yesterday I was sitting at me desk looking at the crab apple tree that is just outside the window. The tree is just about ready to blossom. It is a sight that I look forward to every year. I must be very honest, as I get older I look forward to it more and more every year. I recall planting that tree many years ago and it has provided some nice shade on the house.

The apple blossoms don't last too long, but that tree has not moved. It has grown yearly and is still in the same spot. This annual miracle of the blossoming tree, reminds me that I am to remember my own roots and the good things I have learned from God and my ancestry. I am always to blossom where I am planted. As you blossom let the color of your satisfied soul in Jesus shine through.

Proverbs 16:20 Whoever listens to what is taught will succeed and will be happy. Those who trust in the Lord will be joyful.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 God has made everything beautiful in it's time.

Invest In The Faith Of Your Children 7/6/2023

 Good Morning,

The clouds brought forth some rain today and for some reason or another my desk feels more comfortable than ever. It is well paired with a hot cup of Door County Raspberry Almond Coffee. It is time to write.

We have just a little rain falling this morning. It is just enough water to sustain the grass and plants in our yard. The flowering crab trees are just about ready to blossom. I was talking to myself a little yesterday and I said, "if is doesn't rain soon I will need to water the new grass seeds I planted last week."

It is a shame not to water things you plant and is also a waste of money.

In our part of the world it is Saturday morning. I am not at all surprised when I say that if it is Saturday right now, as usual Sunday will follow tomorrow. ( I am being a little snarky here) There is never a better day than Saturday to plan for Sunday. Like plants, shrubs and vegetables need water to grow, we should all invest in the spiritual health and faith of our children. Many churches now have wonderful children programs that teach the principles of faith to the children on Sundays and one day during the week. It is your responsibility to get them there on time and then talk about what they learned after church. I am old school and believe the children should be in the adult church at least once a month to learn and see what worship is like and also to learn to behave. It is a shame not to water and feed the faith of  the tender hearts of a child that you brought into this world.

So here's what to do. Lay out the kid's clothes tonight. Set your alarm 1 hour earlier than what the kids need. Plan a simple breakfast for the morning. Plan enough "get ready time" so you can leave the house and arrive to church on time for a potty stop. Teach children to be on time and show respect for those who are their to teach. Then you get into the church service on time. If you need that extra cup of coffee get up earlier!

Show the children your love and respect for God, by making Sunday mornings a priority. Teenagers should help with the younger ones if possible and should be held accountable for waking up on time. Their phones or alarm clocks should be placed on the opposite side of their room so when they ring, that body has to get up and move to shut it off. Snooze alarms should be disabled.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road., and when you lie down and when you get up.

Men! This is not just Moms duty. Learn to fill cereal bowls and take charge of the spiritual leadership of your home. I tell young men who are counseling with me prior to marriage that Deuteronomy 6 is the job description for a man.

When I invest time into the vegetation growth in our yard, I see good results. Isn't your family worth more than all the apple trees you can plant? You are the same parents that worry and fret when the kids learn to cross the street. Yet some say, " I will let them find their faith and develop their own beliefs. Would you tell a six year old to find their way to school and life all on their own?

Remember Who Has Your Back . 5/5/2023

 Good Morning,

Another Friday has arrived and except for an appointment for my annual physical with my doctor It should be a day of gathering firewood for the winter. I will imbibe on a hot cup of Door County Pecan Cinnamon Ice Cream Coffee a little later. It's time to write.

Psalm 3:3 But you, Lord are a shield around me, my glory, One who lifts my head high.

This morning's passage reminds us that we are important to God and that despite the attempts of the evil one we can lift our head high. When we are down, trodden God is there to lift up our heads and set us on the path of each day. We can walk boldly because we can say "Our Father" We know Who our Shield is and we belong to the family of God.

Have you ever felt that no one listens to you and no one thinks you are of value to talk with? It is quite the opposite. The One, The Only God believes you are important and He tells us to call out to Him. God is never too busy or bored with us to not listen.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call out to Me and I will answer you.

So today, put some spring back in your walk, a smile on your face, place a song in your heart, and hope in your soul.  God is your shield, glory and biggest cheer leader.

Have a blessed day.

When Pride Keeps You From Doing Right 5/4/2023

 Good Morning,

As I sit in our den this morning with a hot cup of Door County Pecan Cinnamon Ice Cream Coffee next to me I can hear a myriad of song birds just outside the window. Music for the soul! I am looking forward to splitting some firewood today and enjoying the beautiful weather.

For the longest time I only associated the word pride with the good things in life. For instance "take pride" in your work or appearance is always associated with dress your best and do a great job at work. Certainly there is nothing wrong with that.

But then there is that type of pride that when exhibited from within our hearts and souls, becomes a stumbling block. That type of pride keeps us from admitting when we are wrong and often pins us to a point of view that is evil and hurtful. Pride keeps us from admitting a mistake and it helps us to dig holes we can't get out of or make decisions that we refuse to let go of.

Proverbs 8:13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil. I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 16:5 The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this; They will not go unpunished.

All too often when pride comes on the scene it just makes things worse and when we choose to follow it we become addicted to our inability to admit we are wrong. We will hold on to anger, excuses, and misfortune just because of pride. So if you are hanging on to a mess just because of pride, let it go and distance yourself by doing whatever is right. "There is nothing wrong with right!"

Visiting Karen 5/3/2023

 Good Morning,

I must say I am enjoying my hot cup of Door County Breakfast Blend Coffee at my desk today and it is time to write.

Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others as more significant than yourselves.

Any typical Tuesday night I attend our Men's Bible Study at our church. Last night was an exception by choice. The plan to meet was changed and it was decided to make up two groups and visit two church members who are considered shut ins. Last Saturday night these two were prayed for during a prayer service. Someone in that group said " I need to go and see them. " Well when that was said I always believe the Holy Spirit it prompting action. That's where the plan was hatched to send a couple of groups to the two sites where our friends are living now. I was able to be a part of the team that visited our friend Karen.

Karen is in a hospice facility after she requested her husband to make arrangements for her to stop all treatments and allow her to go home to heaven. This happened a few weeks ago and Karen is now waiting on the Lord to take her home. As long as I have known Karen she has been suffering physically. And as of late it has taken it's toll. So our visit went well. Karen was alert and smiled a lot as we read scripture  to her, prayed and sang some hymns.

Karen shared a few things on her mind with us and as much as she is still suffering and has death knocking at her door, she reached out to us to let us know that she worries about her husband. She is concerned about his welfare after she is home in heaven. Here with a boat load of her own woes she is more concerned about him than she is about herself.

The lesson for today is this. I know this is an extreme case. But for her to be in hospice and it was not the elephant in the room, we all know the future. This lady did her best to smile and encourage us. She is placing her husband ahead of her own problems in the most unselfish way I have ever witnessed.

Are you placing your spouse first in your life. Or are you being selfish and making everything about you? It was an honor to visit her, but who got the most out of it?

Food for thought,

Marty

You Win Some. You Lose Some. 5/2/2023

Good Morning, One hot cup of Door County Breakfast Blend Coffee awaits me in the kitchen after I finish writing/ Let's start the day.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race, all the runners run, but only one receives the prize. So run that you may obtain it.

My wife's mother has always entered her crafts and food goods for competition at the local county fair since 1953. Last year at the age of 95 she still entered a few craft items that she crocheted. Out of the five entries she took home three ribbons. The photo displays a few of her ribbons. I would say that this is about a third of what she had earned.

Mom lives in an assisted living home now and her house has been sold. With every sale of a home, the items from the first owner must be removed and something has to be done with the treasures. Rene's family has been working on emptying the house that was built by their parents in 1949. Now and then they have discovered some neat finds.

Mother has been crafting for 70 years now and she is quite talented. Over the years she has collected many prize ribbons for her handiwork. The kids found bags and bags of mother's prizes. My wife Rene took the best ones and also ironed many so the fair can use them again. She was very proud to return them. I was complimenting my mother in law on how many she had won over the years. Her reply I now quote. " I did not always take the grand prize and in some instances I did not even get a fourth place. But I always learned from the mistakes I made. The main thing is that I never quit and always tried to do my best."

I think we could learn a lesson from this soon to be 96 year old. If a project is worth doing, do your best to make it the best that it can be. If you make a mistake, learn from the mistake. Don't settle for good when great is an option. Keep trying, even when it seems impossible. Don't give up.

Have a great day.

Monday Cheer With a Recipe May 5/1/ 2023

 Good Morning,

I have some work to go to today and I will be taking a Thermos bottle full of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee with me. It is time to write.

I always consider Monday to be the start of the week. I am looking forward to what each day of this week will bring to me and just how God and I will handle it. So to start this week I want to share a couple verses of Scripture that are meant to bring you some good cheer.

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But, take heart; I have overcome the world!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.

Enjoy your week.
