A Swing At The Plate 5/18/2021

 Good Morning,

I am happy to be writing early and hoping this blog meets a need today for someone. I just finished tasting my first of two cups of Door County Vanilla Creme Coffee and praying as I write.

It's that time of the year when the baseball diamonds are filled with Little League baseball players. Those kids get out there and they play their hearts out. Believe it or not I used to coach little league 1000 years ago. My style of coaching wouldn't work today. The kids ran laps and did push ups if they were caught not paying attention. You could say I was more of a Vince Lombardi style coach.

One thing that it was hard to get a less talented kid to do was take a good swing at a decent pitch. They were afraid of striking out by swinging and missing. To the kids a base on balls was better than taking a shot at a good pitch. This theory led to many of the boys getting called out on strikes without ever taking a swing. Some were convinced that they had a better chance of getting hit by a pitch if they took a swing and moved into a pitch. Fear of getting hit had some of them frozen.

One boy in particular had plenty of strength and in practice he would knock the snot out of the ball. But come game time he froze up. He never did loosen up enough to take a swing in the game and hear the cheers from the stands. I felt bad for this kid.

Life is like a baseball game. You never know what type of pitch it is going to throw to you. Some people quit on a day just because they are intimidated by what this day has to offer. They know the Coach has equipped them with everything they need. He is their Main Cheerleader. There is a great crowd of angels in heaven waiting to cheer us on as we gain the courage to stand up and take a swing at this day. Yet we freeze.

We should approach the plate confident and not as a loser. We might strike out now and then, but we were there and we took a swing. Today is only 24 hours in a lifetime, don't quit on today, You owe it to yourself to look this day in the eye and say "bring It" Then point to center field and swing for the fence!!!!

The signal for you today just came in from the dugout.

" Hey Batter" You can do all things through Christ, who strengthens you! Philippians 4:13.

Good Day!

Marty

  1. This reminds me of when Tommy was in little league. He was strong but not fast, not the best. The Lord was speaking to him and telling him you can do this with me. He got up to the plate and told himself, "I'm going to hit a home run." Guess what? He did. It was the only one he ever hit, but he knew it was because he could do all things through Christ who strengthens him. What a glorious day that was!!!!
