A Garden Surprise 3/12/2021

 Good Morning,

Friday arrived right on time, just as promised. The heat of the fireplace feels good this morning as I write. My mug is full of Door County Maple Coffee. Happy Friday.

Three weeks ago we still had 2 feet of snow on the ground and it did not look like much was alive under the snow, Where we had removed snow and piled it up in our yard, I would guess the amount measured over three feet of frozen precipitation.

John 8;12 Jesus spoke to them saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

One day while surveying the snow that seemed like it would be here until July, I wondered to myself if there was any life under the frozen piles. I mentioned to myself that it would be a miracle if any of our garden survived the winter blast.

Then the weather warmed up and the snow started to shrink like a cheap shirt in the clothes dryer. The snow just outside our kitchen window was the first to leave and allow sunshine to hit  one of the flower beds where we had planted daffodils. A week later we have some serious stems popping up out of the ground that was once frozen and snow covered. The plants were not doing anything without some warmth and some daylight (sunshine).

My friends the thought behind this is simple. Many hearts are frozen and have locked others out. They are like hearts of stone. Maybe these frozen hearts were caused by hurts delivered to the owner from others. It could be disappointments that started the deep freeze. It could be the that the heart found the freezer by the loss of a loved one, or anger filled the cavity where there was once music in a soul.

Just as the sun and it's warmth melted away our frozen mess and the daffodils felt the comfort of  the sunshine, frozen hearts can too reach up to Jesus Christ. He is the only way a frozen heart can be changed. He alone can warm a heart and restore music, laughter and purpose to a soul. I watch as these daffodils grow. They don't turn and grow back into the ground, where no one will ever see their flowers. They reach up and grow toward the sun which gave them life.

So today, if the job is more than you can take, or the hurt of a broken marriage, relationship, or problem child has you weighted down with a heart that just can't seem to beat happily. It is time to look up, and embrace the offer of Jesus to let that heart start beating for yourself and others. He is the "Sonshine" of our lives.

Have a great Friday. Let those hearts reach up for the warmth of Christ.

God bless,

Marty
