When Pride Keeps You From Doing Right 5/4/2023

 Good Morning,

As I sit in our den this morning with a hot cup of Door County Pecan Cinnamon Ice Cream Coffee next to me I can hear a myriad of song birds just outside the window. Music for the soul! I am looking forward to splitting some firewood today and enjoying the beautiful weather.

For the longest time I only associated the word pride with the good things in life. For instance "take pride" in your work or appearance is always associated with dress your best and do a great job at work. Certainly there is nothing wrong with that.

But then there is that type of pride that when exhibited from within our hearts and souls, becomes a stumbling block. That type of pride keeps us from admitting when we are wrong and often pins us to a point of view that is evil and hurtful. Pride keeps us from admitting a mistake and it helps us to dig holes we can't get out of or make decisions that we refuse to let go of.

Proverbs 8:13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil. I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 16:5 The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this; They will not go unpunished.

All too often when pride comes on the scene it just makes things worse and when we choose to follow it we become addicted to our inability to admit we are wrong. We will hold on to anger, excuses, and misfortune just because of pride. So if you are hanging on to a mess just because of pride, let it go and distance yourself by doing whatever is right. "There is nothing wrong with right!"
