Minding Your Own Business 5/26/2024

 Good Morning,

A cloudy day is on us this morning and it is damp and cool outside. My cup of Door County Peanut Butter Crunch Coffee is cooling down, so it is time to write.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 ESV And to aspire to live quietly and to mind your own affairs and to work with your hands as we instructed you.

Proverbs 26:17 ESV  Whoever meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears.

I learned a long time ago that that it is best not to meddle in other peoples affairs unless asked to do so by the owner of the affairs.  For instance I set a live trap out to help me catch a chipmunk and move him or her away from our home where it is causing some damage. A nosey squirrel keeps getting caught in a trap not meant for him. His desire to check out the trap has now caught him several times.  He has discovered the result of not minding  his own business. Being nosey can be a trap that stings you.

What attracts us to other people's business like moths to a light bulb?  The need to be into places where we don't belong is often a sign that we are folks who thrive on a little gossip. Our desire to be in the know  is satisfied by what we excuse as "Helping Out".

Then there is a second desire satisfied  in the name of assisting others. It is when we know and are in the middle of "helping out" the focus is no longer on our own issues but on those issues of others.

Now when invited to help out and and offer an opinion, we should do so prayerfully, so as to be the best help we can be and to deliver  results sanctioned by God.

Food for thought!

Mind your own business and you won't be minding someone else's.

Marty
