Advice For The Young And The Old 5/24/2024

Good Morning,

Door County Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Coffee is brewing in the kitchen and the aroma is being lifted upstairs to my den.

It's that time of year when recent graduates are entering the workforce, seeking living arrangements via apartment rental or even a home purchase. These young folks have a plan in mind for their future and they have goals they want to accomplish. It is important to remind the older generation that we were pretty much the same way. At twenty years old I reminded my parents how lucky they were to have me. At the ripe age of twenty I knew everything and cast the shadow of doubt on their abilities and knowledge.

I support the plans of the young because it's their plan and they should know what is best for their own life. What I don't see as often as I would like to see is in their illustrious plan for life, is where they will attend church, raise a family in faith, and where they will serve the Lord. Not too often do I see a plan that has God first, family second and themselves third. They purchase pets, cars, and boats but yet their Bible is stored away in their new closet. And it never gets read.

Ecclesiastes 11:9-10  Rejoice O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these, God will bring you into judgement. 10. Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh,. For childhood and youth are vanity.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth. Before the difficult days come and the years draw near when you say "I have no pleasure in them."

Ecclesiastes 12:6-8 Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. 7. Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God, who gave it. 8. "Vanity of vanities,"  says the Preacher, All is vanity.

My advice for the young and the old. If you attended church as a child and do not do so now, return yourself to the pew. If it was important to be married in the church, why not maintain your marriage by attending and serving in a church? If it was important to have your child dedicated or baptized in a church, where are you and your kids on Sundays? You are as close to God as you choose to be.

A mouth full of thoughts for today.

Marty
