Family Picnic And Teenagers 8/3/2015

Good Morning,

The weekend is over already? We are in the middle of a short heat wave and I will be happy to see it end. My cup is filled with Door County Highlander Grog Coffee today.

Yesterday my wife's family came into town for a visit and we held our annual picnic at our home. There was plenty to eat and Rene, our grandson Dominick and I worked together to make sure that the food was good, done on time, and that there was plenty.

With the three of us working together the task seemed easier. As we were going to bed Rene and I both proclaimed how blessed we were to have his help. A great time was had by all and we look forward to the next one. The lesson is this. We did not micromanage Dom. He told us what he was comfortable doing and we let him run with it. We saw that his organizational skills were top notch. He laid out a buffet line that actually made sense and worked great. At fourteen years old, many people still like to micromanage teenagers. They don't need it and often resent it. They have skills that are developed or are developing. I saw yesterday that we need to trust his decision making abilities. It went great because he was in charge.

Proverbs 22:6New King James Version (NKJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Have a great day! Don't micromanage the teens!

Marty
