Cutting Through Like Butter 7/17/2015

Good Morning,

My day has begun with a hot cup of Door County Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti Coffee, prayer, Bible study and an agenda for making it through the day on time, every time.

Hebrews 4:12New King James Version (NKJV)
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The picture above is that of an antique butter cutter. Rene and I have a few butter molds also. I still use this to serve butter slices when we entertain from time to time. The wires within the cutter slide right through butter, making perfectly matching slices each time.

I believe that many Christians rely on their own words when encouraging, comforting, correcting, instructing or witnessing to others. Now, you do need to engage in conversation to do all of the above. But what we neglect is to leave the person we are working with a passage from God's word. This is a lot like taking an aspirin when a stronger pain killer is really needed. The aspirin does some good but not enough.

The reasons that many Christians do not pass on the Word of God is that they have not prepared to engage others with the Word by knowing Scriptures to use. They haven't memorized the Word either.

Our words, although very good and needed do not have the same impact as the Word of God. The Word of God penetrates like no other and does not turn back.

The best book for "chicken soup for the soul" is the Bible. Dust it off. It is just waiting there for you and has a great treasure within to be mined and shared.

Have a great day,

Marty
