Lady And The Two Tramps 12/4/2019

Good Morning,

I find myself content with the world today. I had been away from home for the least two days and sitting here at my desk with a cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee is a great start to the day. This desk and chair just seem to make me feel safe, content and comfortable.

Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Last night everything to make this blog for the morning lined up just right. Due to teaching a Bible study last evening at church and then enjoying more than my usual manly banter afterwards with the guys I was a little late in taking our two dogs outside for their nightly run with a little training added in.

As I led the two dogs Gibbs and Leo into the garage I was very surprised to hear what I thought was Leo barking at something. It wasn't Leo barking and I for sure knew it wasn't Gibbs. I looked around and another dog had joined our nightly party and was barking at the two hunting specialists. To my surprise a little miniature collie had come for a visit. What ensued next would be expected. All three dogs moved to the yard and began to play the run and chase game. This was a circus on steroids and I was concerned because our visitor was running at times into the road. A few sharp commands to the boys and our two headed to the garage and then into the house. The little collie followed but just up to the house entry door. I closed the overhead door to the garage so our visitor was secure and safe.

Of course there was a call to my wife Rene for assistance and after I explained the situation she came into the garage and spoke sweet and soft to our collie friend and soon the little one was following her into the house. Once inside we searched for dog tags and found some phone numbers to call. Our two canine comedians showed the visitor where the water dish was and before we knew it our little friend had accompanied Leo into the his kennel and both laid down. Peace was restored to the home.

I had an idea where and to whom this little one belonged. I walked up the street and was about to ring the doorbell of the home where I believed this little lady came from. I noticed the home was dark and the front door was wide open. I rang the bell and knocked. I called inside from the porch and did not receive an answer. Now mind you it is getting late. I noticed that the owners next door neighbors had lights on so I knocked and introduced myself. They had contact information for the owner and also let me know that our little visitors name was Sadie. We did decide to call the police to report the open door to take a look and make sure our neighbor was OK. They responded and searched the home and reassured us that they believed the owner had stepped out and the door hadn't completely closed. This allowed Lady Sadie to go visit and meet the two Hunting Tramps. After a few phone calls and some prayer we were able to speak with the owners daughter and she came to claim Sadie. Our neighbor had left her home in a hurry to deal with a family emergency and thus the circus began.

Why am I writing this long story? Well I believe it was one of those times where the essence of Christmas was present. An unexpected stranger received water, food and safe accommodations. Sadie was welcomed in and taken care of. Neighbors joined in to assist despite the late hour of the night and the police were more than professional, courteous and concerned. Once calls were made total strangers that were the back up plan for a dog emergency worked with us to make sure Sadie got home where she belonged. Had I been on time and finished with my dog runs for the night I would not have seen Sadie and I don't like to think about how that could have turned out.

Christmas was rescued for a neighbor and we went to bed content and at peace. God had me in the right place at the right time all night. We were able to show His love to someone we really don't know. Do unto others, captures the essence of Christmas.

God bless,

Marty
