There's Room At My Table 1/5/2016

Good Morning,

Up and at it is the motto for the day as I sip on this cup of Door County Jingle Bell Java. I have a full day ahead and I need to be awake to embrace whatever comes along.

Rene and I went for some dinner and a movie Saturday night. The theater actually has a decent little restaurant inside. Of course when we arrived there wasn't a table available in the dining area. There were however, couples using tables made for four. I am sure they wanted their privacy like most of us do. But that wasted two seats. So while Rene and I stood eating some popcorn for supper I watched person after person walk around looking for a seat. A young couple was looking for a place to stand out of the way so they could eat the cheese burgers they had ordered. They looked our way and there was plenty of room by us. I said "There's room at our table so why don't you pull up a seat"? All four of us laughed and we moved over to give them some room. We continued the charade as they replied "thank you for having us over, should we take our shoes off?' These small jokes continued and all four of us introduced ourselves. When it was time to take in the movie we wished each other a good night and said goodbye. The 20 minutes or so we spent together was a lot of fun.

Have you ever watched someone walk through a cafeteria or fast food restaurant looking for somewhere to sit? Have you noticed the person that eats lunch alone everyday. Have you considered inviting them to join you at your table? Oh! That would be awkward beyond belief!!! Or would it?

John 6:1-14New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Festival was near.
When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
14 After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

Jesus made a table on a mountain side. He made room for everyone. The results were amazing. Today reach out and share a table and yourself. Don't be shy, you just might make a new friend.

God bless,

Marty
