Meals At Home, Enjoy Life. 3/3/2025

 Good Morning,

I poured a fresh cup of Door County Inn Keepers Blend Coffee and it smells like a wake up call for me.

Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your mind with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.

My wife Rene and I have been empty nesters for quite some time. Both of us are retired now and we are enjoying it. One thing that hasn't changed too much from our first years of marriage is that we tend to make at least 90% of our meals from scratch and we eat at home. Sunday afternoons and Wednesdays are usually the days that we make starter meals for the next couple of days. Not much is left to do on meal day.

I also am the one who does most of the cooking. Yesterday I made enough split pea and ham soup for today and Tuesday. Not all of our meals are special, and many are quite simple. We use all of the left overs and they are often tossed into an omelet for breakfast.

My point today is not to be thrifty, but just to say that our meals are time for communication. My wife is diabetic so the meals are made for her to be be able to eat well and know what the ingredients really are. Prayer is always a must. The world and local news are discussed. Family is often talked about and sometimes with updates on how the family is doing.

Now you can also accomplish this by stopping at the local emporiums of fast food or you can dine out in a nice place with great ambience. I won't say we never do that. But for me, on a cold night there is no place like our dinner table with a hot cup of soup, a home made roll and the crackling of the fire place.

My point for the day is this. You paid a lot for your home and if you rent we know that isn't cheap either. My vote goes for home made food and staying in at the home you chose to pay for. A lot of those bowls are filled with love and memories.

Just something to consider. The guy who owns the restaurant appreciates your business, but he doesn't love you like the cook in your own home does.

God bless,

Marty
