A Happy Thought For Sunday. Donut Memories 3/23/2025

 Good Morning,

It is still dark outside as I write this morning. My hot cup of Door County Highlander Grog Coffee is ready to drink and it is time to write.

My family used to live on the South side of Milwaukee of Wisconsin. We attended church a few blocks from our home. On certain Sundays the "Fathers Club" would make donuts in the basement of the church. They sold them and the profits would support the school right next door and their athletic teams. Some of the profits were designated to other expenses at the church and the school.

Psalm 95:6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let is kneel down before the Lord, our maker.

These men would mix the dough, then roll it, and cut out perfect circles to fry. Then they would hit the fryer. That is when it made it almost impossible to concentrate on what was going on in the mass. The aroma was sweet and you could almost taste those circles of delight as you sat in your seat upstairs. After the church service, you descended into the basement and purchased some to take home. My favorite donuts were rolled in sugar and placed into a brown paper bag and taken home. It was sheer torture to ride in the car or walk home without digging into that bag and chowing down one of those treats. Some of my old classmates from that era occasionally read this blog and I would bet that they are drooling right now as they read.

My point for the day has multiple points.  First. Attend church! Secondly. Men be active in your church setting the standard of serving God and your families. Thirdly. All of us should do our best to make Sundays special for our families, friends and church members.

Yesterday I ate a donut in our church and I have to say this. The national chain donut was ok , but it could never compete with what I ate as a kid, made in the basement of our church.

Men make today special for your family and your church.

God bless.
