Be Good At Life 4/26/2020

Good Morning,

Rise and shine and let your feet hit the floor. I just poured myself a cup of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee to help kick start this day. Now, it is time to write.

The New York Life Insurance Company sponsors a television advertisement about Love In Action and at the end of the commercial there is a statement that says "Be Good At Life". They have done a good enough job of advertising that the commercial has caught my eye.

The word Love can be a noun or a verb and I believe that the word love as a noun describes an emotion that we all wish to feel and experience. As a verb, love is seen as an action and I truly believe that one form of the word cannot exist without the other. They go hand in hand.

I however  like the ending of the commercial best, when they flash "Be Good At Life". My thoughts are this. If one wants to be good at life they must desire to be loved and also to love. Love in action is "being good at life". The first step to being good at life is to start by Loving God with all your heart, and with all your soul. The second step is to love you neighbor as yourself.

Matthew 22:36-40  36"Teacher which is the greatest commandment in the Law"? 37 Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these these two commandments."

Friends, love that sits idle is only half of the recipe for being good at life. Putting love into action completes the recipe. I see that those who are happiest are practicing love in action. And the desired result of wanting to be loved is experienced in return.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8   4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8. Love never fails. , where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

So today. "Be Good At Life". Strive to do your best at loving God and others. Take love off of the shelf and put it into action. Love on the shelf, only collects dust.

Marty
