Picking Berries 5/2/16

Good Morning,

Smile, God loves you. Monday morning arrived and it feels like it came without a warning. Where did the weekend go? This morning finds me drinking some Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee.

I have been watching the blossoms coming forth on the apple trees. I thought we would lose them to frost last week but it seems that we avoided that so far. Looking ahead to apple picking!

John 21:1-14 New International Version (NIV)

Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.
10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead

A friend of mine is a school teacher and will be off from work for the summer. He and his wife asked me if I knew of a place where they could stay on a lake and fish with their kids. I gave them several spots to check out in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They made the arrangements so that their vacation coincided with blueberry season. They are looking forward to picking berries with their children. They hope to have enough to can. The place they are staying has a kitchen, so they will be taking their canning equipment with them. My friends are also hoping to catch enough fish to have a shore lunch. They will be borrowing some of my equipment for the shoreline feast. I will be praying for a good catch. There is nothing like a shore lunch of fish, beans and fried potatoes.

Dad also explained to me that the goal is to show the kids God through nature. I hope they see a lot of it during that week. They plan on having devotions in the boat and in the woods. I told them about a few waterfalls that I know of in the area if they are in the mood to hike.

I hope and pray that this vacation is everything they hope it will be. I can't see how they can go wrong. Two parents, two kids and the focus is on God. Taking God on vacation with you. Now there is a great idea. I can only imagine how the blueberries will taste on top of some ice cream.

If they are looking to find God and spend time with Him they will find Him. This vacation is priceless.
