When The Leaves Fall. Letting Go.10/1/2017

Good Morning,

My cup of Door County Cherry Crème Coffee is keeping me warm today. I am sitting on the patio enjoying  a cold crisp fall morning. Our weather has been unusual to say the least. Supposedly it is going to be hot tomorrow. But we take each day in stride and enjoy what God has given us.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8New International Version (NIV)

A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

I really can be described  as a fall and winter person. I am a hunter and the cool and cold weather suit what I like to do very well. I enjoy wearing warm clothes and for me sweaters are a joy on a cold day.

In the fall, I enjoy watching the leaves change their colors but then the leaves begin to drop to the ground, coloring the yard with a red, brown and yellow carpet. The leaves that started out in the spring as buds and then opened into the beautiful green foliage of the summer and shade for my bald head are saying goodbye. These leaves were attached to the trees, and nurtured through the branches all spring and summer long. They gave the trees their beauty. Soon the trees will be barren and somewhat dormant for a few months. New leaves will return in the spring.  My job is to clean up the fallen leaves and burn them so they do not clog our yard and prevent new grass and our garden from producing another season of greenery and fruit.

What can we learn here? It is quite simple, the trees are letting go. There comes a time when  every life when we have to let something go. The trees could not support the old leaves as well as the new ones in the spring. It wouldn't be healthy. If the trees were to hang on to the leaves too long into the winter the snow, and ice here would collect on the leaves and possibly tumble the tree with weight during a blizzard.

1 Peter 5:6-7English Standard Version (ESV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

For us there are tings that if we hold on to them too long and do not let go of them they will eventually weigh us down and not allow us to blossom. Hurt, anger and emotional pain seem to stay on the branches of our lives too long. As the trees let go of the leaves in a season, we too must let these three go and not allow them to hang on and keep us from finding rest and recovery so a new season can begin in time. God takes what we let go of when we cast them away. He tends the garden of our hearts.

Friends, some of you reading this need to let go of something. Why not make it today? You have hurt long enough. Anger or emotional pain are holding you back from enjoying life. Let it go and give it to God.

Marty
