What If? 8/2/2017

Good Morning,

What can be said about any day that starts with prayer, Bible time, and a big cup of Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee? For sure, nothing bad can said about that day!

What if? If this, if that, if only, if, if, if.  I think the world spends too much time wondering about the if's in life. Really, does the question what if add anything to the equation? Not really. I for one don't like to play the what if game, or the abbreviated version, "Plain If".

A statement that I have used in the past "If My Aunty had a moustache, does that make her my uncle?" That makes about as much sense as when we say.,"if this didn't happen, we could have"?

Could have what? Whatever happened or occurred, happened and now is the time to deal with it, not spending time wondering ,"what if".

Reality is always what it is and we as God's children need to deal with reality and get busy. For instance, people will torture themselves with statements like "if I would have just not done!!". Well you didn't, and now you need to spend more time dealing with the consequences, than day dreaming about what if I had not done whatever.

 Luke 24New International Version (NIV)

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ 8 Then they remembered his words.
When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

In this passage we see that Jesus was crucified, died and was buried. Some women had to deal with reality. Their Lord had died, and had not been properly embalmed and the job needed to be finished. They saw reality and went to work, instead of playing the if game. They couldn't bring Jesus back, what happened, happened and they needed to take care of the immediate needs. ( God did raise Jesus from the dead) . They did not allow the what if game to take them hostage. They went to work. When they went to work they saw God's hand.

When we fail to be able to move on in circumstances ,we allow ourselves to become hostage to the what if game and we miss out on time to take care of the immediate. This often evolves into people becoming paralyzed by issues and then they never recover.

When things happen we need to commit to fully trusting God to carry us through and that He keeps His promises.

Isaiah 41:10New International Version (NIV)

10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

If you are going through rough times, trust in God. He cares and keeps His promises. If He brought you to it, He will see you through it.

Leave a comment and I will be sure to pray for you. God bless.

Marty
