The Work Of Thy Hands 5/7/17

Good Morning,

Where has the weekend gone to? It seems like just minutes ago it was Friday and sometime today I have to face the fact that it will be Monday tomorrow. This day began a little earlier for me and it started with prayer, and a cup of Door County Coconut Cupcakes Coffee out in the garage.

Psalm 90:17New International Version (NIV)
17 May the favor[a] of the Lord our God rest on us;
    establish the work of our hands for us—
    yes, establish the work of our hands.

Our home is in need of a new towel bar. Rene loves to take old items she finds in antique shops and repurpose them into useful items. My early morning found me in the garage where I had been working late into the night. A towel bar project and one other soon to be small cup holder made from an old wooden cheese box were the items of my attention. The towel bar/rack is going to take a little more time than I figured. It is being constructed from an antique wooden tool box. The wood has been very difficult to work with because of it's age. I have to be careful to preserve it as an antique, yet make it useful again. It will be placed in the guest bathroom and it needs to look good for our visitors.

The point I want to make is this. We all perform some type of work whether it is for our employer, a customer, or for our own family. We need to take pride in our work, no matter what we are doing. Our attitude toward our work should be to perform it and ultimately glorify God while doing it, and through the product we produce. We need to be thankful for the ability to be able to work at anything. For instance, an apple pie poorly constructed, might still taste like an apple pie, but the presentation does not make it all that appealing. We would not do well to serve it to guests or family. A beautifully constructed pie tells people that you take pride in what you do and that you care to give them your best. Working for your employer is the same thing. Greet your employer with a smile and a friendly salutation. Let them always find you working and doing a great job. This lets them know that you value your job and also tells them that you are trustworthy, loyal, and take pride in what you do. Perform your work to the best of your ability. Never give anyone your second best.

These practices are Biblical and help to show others how much you love God by using your body to perform great work. Your attitude and the product you produce glorifies God. He is the One who gave you the talent and physical health to do all that you do. What you do and how you do it, says a lot about your relationship with God.

Honest hard work- this is something God seeks from all of us. God's words tell us that working hard, but with faith in mind, can lead to the great things he has planned for us.

Colossians 3:23-24New International Version (NIV)
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Work on today, let others know that you love, and respect them through your work.
