The What If Bus 6/17/2016

Good Morning,

I broke out a new flavor of coffee this morning from the Door County Coffee Company. Pecan Cinnamon Ice Cream is the flavor of the day. It's might tasty and I think it would make a great cup of dessert.

I have never driven a bus in real life. I do not possess the proper license to do so and I don't see one coming in the future. But in reality, licensed or not I have driven the "What If Bus". This is a bus that I really try to avoid but occasionally it pulls into the driveway of my life.

I am leaving next month for a short term mission trip to Haiti and I am the "leader of a band called to serve the Lord for ten days." Already, the What If Bus has made a home in my mind. "Lots of people to be responsible for, what if there is a hurricane?  What if the planes do not arrive on time? What if someone gets sick? What if the hospital where you work needs you?

The "What If Bus" is the bus of worry and fret. This is contrary to what Jesus tells us about worry. I think we can all point to a few what if busses that have parked in our lives in many different matters from work, to marriage, to children, to location, to health and many more. Once we get on that bus it is hard to get off. Some of you are on that bus right now.

Matthew 6:25-34New International Version (NIV)

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

In all things instead of worrying seek first the Kingdom of God. In all things put God first and you will see that God wants us go to Him for our needs. Worry does nothing than make us sick. Trust in God and lean on Him.

Have a great day.

Marty
