Keeping Your Cool 6/4/2016

Good Morning,

I woke up to a happy Springer Spaniel staring at me like a furry alarm clock. Gibbs is very impatient. I can hear the Door County Cherry Crème Coffee brewing in the kitchen. Looks like I will be moving early today!

I have been burning the candle at both ends this last week. Our kitchen is getting closer to being completed. I have put in some long hours on a little part of the kitchen. We purchased an old fashioned ice chest that will now be used for holding some dishes and pots and pans. We brought it in from the garage where I have been sanding, priming, staining and varnishing the old relic. I just sanded it again last night and  wiped it down. The last coat of varnish (very light) will be applied in the house. TOMORROW

It's hard to believe that people used these things to keep their food cool. Compared to the refrigerators of today, these old ones are very primitive. I imagine they worked good enough, but I wouldn't bet on how long things could last in them compared to now.

I was listening to the news yesterday and there is a big surge in road rage incidents. It seems the faster we can travel compared to the days of horse and carriages has caused us to be more impatient and less tolerant of each other. I think we should go back to the horse and carriage. How much road rage could be reduced!!!!!?

We do however have access to a temper cooler that is never out of date and does not need Freon to work. We can tame our tempers by living and breathing the Word of God. It is a "Super Cooler" called a Bible passage, which when taken to heart and memorized helps us to stay cool under extreme circumstances.

Psalm 37New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 37:1-8

Do not fret because of those who are evil
    or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
    like green plants they will soon die away.
Trust in the Lord and do good;
    dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
    your vindication like the noonday sun.
Be still before the Lord
    and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
    when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
    do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For those who are evil will be destroyed,
    but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

Our verse today is old but never will be antiquated. It has power to change angry attitudes. Is a parking space worth a punch in the nose? I think not.

Is getting there 15 minutes sooner worth running someone off of the road? I think not.

So keep your cool. It looks good on you,

Marty
