Testing out a new to me flavor from the Door County Coffee Company called Dublin's Delight. The aroma is thick, and once I get outside to my picnic table den I will let you know what I think of the flavor.
This coffee is good to go! So now, on with the blog!
Genesis 19:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
19 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 2 “My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.”
“No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.”3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”
We find Lot, the nephew of Abraham in the city of Sodom. A land that God was very soon going to destroy because of it's wickedness. Two angels walk up to the gate of the city where Lot was sitting. Notice that Lot recognized them as angels as he referred to them a lords. He knew they were good men. He knew they would be in danger and did not want them to sleep in the park. Lot wanted to protect these good men. Take note !Lot still lived there with his family!!!!!! He knew that Sodom was a rotten, dirty, wicked place to live and he still lived there.
He was street smart and knew what would happen to these angels or so he thought. But yet he had done nothing to protect his family from the vile filth. Lot knew he was in the company of some holy men. Not once do we see in the text that he was ashamed to have been living in this cesspool. Not once does he show remorse for having to protect the angels. It was because of him that they were even there in the first place.
Anywhere like this is the wrong place and the wrong time for us. What parts of the filth of the world do we allow into our homes to have an impact on our families?
What destructive junk do we bring upon our own families. Tomorrow we will see exactly the impact of this immoral town had on Lot and his family. For now take a look around your home and lifestyle. Are you in the wrong place?
God bless,
Marty
