Good Morning,
Now is the time for all hard workers to get up and face the day. The day is easier to face after some prayer time and a cup of Door County Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti Coffee.
I have written about the subject of love many times. Today I tackle "Sincere love". I find that now and then we all need a reminder of what love doesn't do. Sincere love does not keep a score card in a relationship. It does not keep a mental diary of all the wrongs or perceived injustices. It doesn't make forgiving a process. It doesn't seek revenge.
We claim to love one another but yet we hold grudges until a groveling, mind boggling apology is delivered and then half heartily accept it, eking out some sort of revenge by prolonging the hurt.
That's not sincere love and I find that all too often we rewrite Scripture to suit our needs for our own self righteous gratifications. God commands us to forgive differently, not making the episode a process that ends when we decide it should end.
Colossians 3:13New International Version (NIV)
13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
The longer we take to forgive, the longer we carry that burden with us. God forgives the minute we seek forgiveness through faith.
1 John 1:9New International Version (NIV)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Notice He does not mention a delay in the process. Shouldn't we love and forgive like God?
Food for thought!
Marty
