Put Another Log On The Fire and Sit A Spell 1/2/2017

Good Morning,

My mug will soon be graced by the splash of some Door County Cinnamon Biscotti Coffee being poured into it. I for one am looking forward to that event in a big way.

This cold spell we are having has really sent me out to the wood pile a little more than usual. Our fireplace is equipped with a system that actually captures the heat and circulates it through the house. Unlike a lot of fireplaces this one is for more than sitting right next to it to warm up. It sends the heat evenly to many parts of the house.

So I don't mind adding another log to the fire and enjoying the warmth it gives. My friends as much as it is important to stay warm on the frosty days it is also important to keep our Spiritual fires hot and stoked. It is our job to feed the fire within us for God. Here are a couple ideas on how to fan the flames.

Feed The Flames With The Word Of God
Jesus said that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)
Now I am not talking about waking up and  doing your daily devotion with sleep filled eyes every morning, waiting for the coffee to kick in. Change your style and dig deeper into the Word.
I am talking about mining the scriptures with a fever for the voice of the Lord within their pages.
Just like the disciples on the road to Emmaus who had their hearts blaze when the scriptures were explained to them by Jesus, (Luke 24:32) you need to dig deep into the scriptures and allow the Lord to start explaining the scriptures to you. You need to listen intently and then obey.

Stoke The Furnace with the Logs of  Prayer
There are 3 things you need to have a blazing fire. Fuel, oxygen and heat.
Prayer is the oxygen you use to stoke the flames high.
Spending time in prayer is spending time in the presence of God, and the presence of God is the air that our souls need to be on fire.

The need to pray is as great as the authority of God, who commands us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV). Prayer is so vital to all that God wants to do on the earth, and it is so essential to us, that He commands us to do it all the time. We should even deny ourselves sleep and food at times to pray more and with greater power. This fans the flames within us.

So keep the fire burning. God bless,

Marty
