If You Say You Will 1/11/2018

Good Morning ,

The day has opened upon me and I greeted it with a cup of Door County White Chocolate Cinnamon Dolce Coffee. Looking forward to coming home tonight and already.

A man or woman is only as good as their word. Those who make promises with no intentions to keep them or are easily persuaded to not honor a pledge are people who are not easily trusted. Promises not seen through label us as unreliable. Don't fool yourself. Kids never forget a promise made by their parents. When we break a promise or fail to fulfill our word we can cause a lot of damage.

Keeping promises is extremely important in order to keep friends and family close to you. Sometimes, nothing else in the world will hurt as much as a broken promise or turning back from your word. Not surprisingly then, the Bible speaks about keeping promises quite a lot. God, after all, is One who always keeps his promises and is incapable of lying or deceiving anyone. He is always true to His word and always delivers on it. Therefore we are to imitate God and keep our promises.

1 John 2:5

But whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:   .

Matthew 5:33-37

“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-7

When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands? For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.

Deuteronomy 23:23

You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.

Matthew 5:37

Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

Matthew 5:33

“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’

Numbers 30:2

If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

James 5:12

But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

I think we could all heed the advice of the Scriptures above. Make a promise today and don't fail to keep it. You are better for it.
