When Things Go Wrong And You Start To Worry 9/4/2017

Good Morning,

I was greeted this morning by some sore legs and some very puffy eyes. It seems that two days of hunting and then scouting took their toll on some knees that should have been replaced last year. The annual fall allergies have hit and now I look Like a boxer who didn't win. I believe it's God's way of resting me today and allowing me time to tend the vegetables from our garden. It's salsa time. No matter what, I will enjoy this cup of Door County Highlander Grog Coffee and my time in the Word of God.  There is no crying in hunting.

On August 31st I wrote about worrying and shared  a few verses to help fight worry when it hits. I promised to share some more thoughts on worry again. I have a few pointers for anyone to add to the list of verses published on the 31st. If you know someone that will benefit from the post on the 31st and possibly this one, be willing to share. Worry can be devastating.

1. Always go to the Word of God for help.

Hebrews 4:12New International Version (NIV)
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

2. Keep busy. Start a project, or finish a project. Hold yourself accountable to the task. Concentrate on what you are doing and do it well. Satan loves to fill idle minds with garbage. Worry is just another word for fear.

Proverbs 16:27-29Living Bible (TLB)
27 Idle hands are the devil’s workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece.
28 An evil man sows strife; gossip separates the best of friends.
29 Wickedness loves company—and leads others into sin.

3. Fellowship with other Christians. Get out there and enjoy some company. Invite some people over. Especially, don't turn down invitations from others. These invitations are life rafts sent by God. Enjoy a smile and some laughter. They are medicine for the soul. Get on the raft.

Psalm 126:2New International Version (NIV)
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”

Proverbs 17:22New International Version (NIV)
22 A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

4. Listen to some uplifting Gospel music. I like Country music but when I am worried or depressed, listening to how I guy lost his girlfriend, got drunk and then his dog was run over by a train, just doesn't lift me up. But some music, containing the Word of God does help.

 Ephesians 5:19English Standard Version (ESV)
19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,

5. Count your blessings. You've heard it before. Someone has it worse than you.

 Psalm 103:2English Standard Version (ESV)
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,

6. Be a blessing to others. Get out there and help someone else. It will take your mind off of what worries you. Be a life raft.

 Matthew 5:16English Standard Version (ESV)
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Now it's time for me to hit the kitchen and make salsa and pasta sauce for the winter.  There is nothing like homemade salsa and chips while watching football game. I love you all and wish you were here to drink some coffee and share in my breakfast. Wouldn't that be nice.

God bless,

Marty
