Good Morning,
How many ways can I say that I enjoy writing in the morning, drinking some Door County Peanut Butter Crunch Coffee and spending some time in prayer? In many ways these early morning jaunts in my mind are the highlight to my day.
Last night at Men's Bible Study we started the evening with a Pot Luck Dinner. Everyone brought something and as always we had too much food. It was a blessing to be studying God's Word with other men and seeing the delight in their eyes as the Holy Spirit illuminated their study time.
Every man went home with a full belly and plenty of things to think about. The Bible study opened their eyes to some things to ponder and study until we meet next week. Our classroom and the food are both modest. We certainly did not serve prime rib last night. But we all experienced God's presence and received a glimpse of what heaven must be like. To be with God, good men, and to learn more about Him is an experience I wouldn't trade for anything.
I challenged the men to not only learn, but to apply what they learned to their lives and the lives of those they encounter. Knowledge without application is useless knowledge. It accomplishes nothing and has no impact on anyone. I would rather be with men that only know three Bible verses, but apply them liberally, than to be with Bible scholars who impress only themselves with knowledge and lack sincere application.
Applying the Bible is the duty of all Christians. If we don’t apply it, the Bible becomes nothing more to us than a normal book, an impractical collection of old manuscripts. That’s why Paul says, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you” Philippians 4:9. When we apply the Bible, God Himself will be with us.
Hey! Have you ever been to a church Pot Luck Dinner? If not, next time you are invited, go! It is the best buffet in town!
God bless,
Marty
