The New Spice Rack 4/8/2017

Good Morning,

Now doesn't Saturday feel good? It sure does to me. I am very happy to be drinking a cup of Door County German Chocolate Coffee and then I will be headed to church. We are starting to bake ham for a mission trip fund raiser tomorrow! Good friends and God's work equal a nice Saturday!!!

2 Corinthians 5:17King James Version (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new

For the last few months I have been rebuilding little drawers and refinishing an old spice rack that Rene found on one of her antique shopping excursions. When she brought it home I cringed and saw no hope. Three of the drawers were in pieces. It was covered in white paint and some of the wood on the sides was chipped.   Well once I got started I could see that the original wood was of good quality and with some glue and sanding there was a glimmer of hope. It took longer than I thought it would for the process. Some nights I just did not feel like working on it.  I would work fifteen minutes, some nights and a couple of hours on other nights.

I figure that some people are like antiques that have not been cared for. They are coated in anger, been used and abused, the drawers of their hearts are broken, and some of their pride has been chipped away. God brings people like that into our lives now and then. He places them right in front of us for a reason. We look at them, full of drugs, wine and despair, We see the markings of anger or shame and we see no hope.  But God sees one of His children and he is working to save them, clean them up and redeem them from a lost life. He looks at them with the loving eyes of a carpenter. He sees the good in them. He places them in our hands to help clean them up and show them the tender loving care that they need. But it takes time and God never quits. he expects us to stay with His refinishing project for the long haul. He wants us to see in others, what He sees.  He sees one of His Lost sheep.

Like the old spice cabinet needed some help, God desires to give them new life and purpose in Him. With Jesus and His forgiveness all things become new.

So if you are given a project of love, stay with it. Work long, work hard. The life of that person is worth it.
