Headed out to begin my Friday with a steaming hot cup of Door County Coconut Crush Coffee. I hope your coffee is at least half as good as mine.
John 10:10 (NKJV)
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Ahh the abundant life. Many of us assume that being a Christian allows us to interpret this verse as a blank check written by God to grant our desires. Many believe this verse entitles us to things.
The kind of abundance that Jesus is speaking of in this verse is a measure of the quality of life, not the quantity of possessions. You can't measure the abundance in square feet or bottom lines. Jesus promised to provide a inexhaustible supply of what makes life worth living- things like love, grace, guidance, forgiveness, and peace with joy. These are the gifts to us. A life that is overflowing with riches of the heart that cannot be taken away.
In the verse above I find that the abundant life Jesus spoke of can be also found. It talks about desires. One once again could interpret these desires as things. Pay attention to the first part of Psalm 37:4
Delighting in God will make Him become the desire of your heart. In turn you desire more in your relationship with God and He supplies all of those desires according to His riches. He will never run out of wanting to hear from you, spending time with you or love for you. That is the abundant life.
Have a great weekend. Spend time with God. Live the abundant life.
