Others First? Part Two 2/17/2015

Good Morning,

An English muffin for breakfast, two oranges packed for lunch and a Thermos bottle filled with Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee and I am out the door soon. Blessed to be headed to a job I like.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” ~ Galatians 6:22,23
Today is the second part of a week long devotional dedicated to putting others first. In order to put others first we need to adopt certain attitudes. Yesterday we looked at compassion. Today we will look at serving others.

Cultivate a Servant's Heart
Find ways to serve others. This is the best way to cultivate or develop a servant’s heart. Putting others before yourself is easier when you are serving them. But just because someone is in a serving position does not mean that they are serving with the correct attitude. Maybe you have met the people who are involved in the service industry who don’t enjoy serving others.  Even people in compassionate sounding jobs (working at a homeless shelter or working as a nurse for example) can have the wrong attitude about the people they are serving. Husbands and dads, serving your family does not show weakness. It shows love and strength.
Develop a servant’s heart and attitude. This is the work of the Holy Spirit. You have to yield to Him so that He can work in your life. A servant's heart is found in the Scripture above. Galatians 6:22-23

Jesus is the perfect example of having a servant's heart.

Matthew 20:26-28

26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Have a day filled with love. Put someone else first today. More on this subject tomorrow.

Marty
