Let's Stop And Pray 7/19/2025

 Good Morning,

I brewed a pot of Door County Maple Coffee and it tastes just fine, but it isn't the same joy as drinking this flavor in the fall on a crisp cold morning.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7. and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Yesterday a friend of ours was still in the hospital with something ailing him and the experts really hadn't been able to give him a firm diagnosis. This fella is a big man and this ailment weakened him to the point that he struggled to walk without tipping over.

Yesterday, later in the morning our friend received a phone call that was devastating. His wife, a very sweet lady, who resides in a nursing home had fallen out of bed and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. It just so happened that it was the same hospital that my friend was in. He called me for prayer and I volunteered to go and sit with him as they experts decided what could be done.

I went to the emergency room to see his wife first and it wasn't good. She had broken a bone in her neck and all the options slim and none were to be presented to her in a few minutes. We worked through a pile of red tape to get her husband released from his predicament to be able to go downstairs and be with his wife.

Finally all three of us could be in the action filled emergency department together. It seemed that the hustle  and bustle of the area was so loud you could barely hear yourself think. I had prayed with both of them individually and now finally, together.

After praying together, my two friends were able communicate. Her voice has always been soft, but yesterday it was soft and weak. They made decisions about her future care and they made them with peace in their hearts. It was that type of peace that no one understands except the ones that have received it. Prior to praying together the situation was quite chaotic .

Friends, when the world seems to be spinning too fast and out of control, it is time to stop and pray. That peace which only comes from God is just a prayer away. Why go without it?

Food for thought.

Marty

  1. If you're too busy to pray, you're too busy.
