How good it feels to be awake, sipping on a cup of Door County Spicy Nutcracker Coffee and writing to all of you. I hope this day finds you with peace in your soul.
Christmas is only 13 days away and some people are still looking for that perfect gift to give someone they love. I want to suggest an idea that is a little radical but might could be most effective in your life and those around you.
When was the last time you did something for the first time? It might not be the gift you give, but what you take away that will be the best gift ever.
How about taking your angry outbursts away from the family? How about not taking the first drink that leads to many more and then the drunkenness that ensues? How about going home before the kids go to bed and your spouse is asleep in the chair? How about being true in your marriage and call off the cheating? How about stopping from making others feel small? How about stopping from being known as a bully? How about not gossiping about others? How about dropping that needle and not shooting up? How about telling the truth? How about not putting yourself first? How about forgiving? How about being less argumentative?
Friends let this be the Christmas where the gift you give is something you take away and take it away forever. This might sound impossible, but God is bigger than what you can't give up.
Philippians 4:13 New King James Version (NKJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Matthew 19:26 New King James Version (NKJV)
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Go ahead and give the best gift you ever gave to someone. Make this a Christmas to remember.
Try doing something for the first time, that others have been hoping you would do for a long time, before it's too late.
Marty
