May the Lord bless and keep you in the palm of His hand. I can hear the Door County Lakeside Fuzzy Navel Coffee brewing in the kitchen. Monday here we come!
Psalm 23 New King James Version (NKJV)
23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell[a] in the house of the Lord
Forever.
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell[a] in the house of the Lord
Forever.
I like to keep a prayer journal and write down what is on my heart and what my prayer requests are. I go back in January and read the journal to see if my prayers were answered and how God worked things out for the year. I often declare in my journal how dark things are or how confusing some circumstances are. Then when I go back a year later I am ashamed at how I acted and thought there was no hope or that I wouldn't survive. I do some crazy things when I allow myself to get worried and worked up.
For instance I misplaced the remote for the garage door opener last Saturday. I looked everywhere five times or more. I was convinced that I had left it in the truck and also left the door to the truck open. My mind went right to this. "Someone stole it and now the security of our home is compromised". I envisioned coming home to all of our items being stolen as well as our dog being dead. I was disconnecting the power to the garage door opener, making sure we had keys to the deadbolt locks on the house and the garage doors. I was looking up a door specialist to get us two new remote controls with a different frequency. I was a crazy man. I decided to pray and calm down a little which I should have done first. A few minutes later Rene came out to my destruction site with the remote control in her hand and said "Is this what you are looking for"? It was, and I asked where she found it. "It was on a table next to your circular saw". I swore I had looked there five times. it was wedged under the saw. I placed it there when I was hauling in too many groceries at one time.
I do believe that in heaven they have a huge television screen and they watch my life on the comedy channel and the show is Marty's Funniest Home Videos. The things I do before I get serious into prayer are a crying shame. What God brings me to, He gets me through. I might have to go through a hardship but God is faithful and carries me. There was the time when I asked my friend to talk to the kids in youth group about proper dress for youth group and he came in dressed like a hairy, crazed tooth fairy. I was a little taken aback on his approach, but the kids loved it and it hit home with them. I remember praying when I saw him and my heart attack subsided, just hoping the parents of the teens wouldn't kill me. He had prayed about it and had decided that shock and awe was a good approach. His goal was to show them how not to dress. Thus Mimi the Rules Fairy was born. My panic turned to laughter and praise. No one killed me.
Call out to God before you just yell and go ahead with a willy nilly plan of your own. It saves on the stress and high blood pressure,
Marty
