Instructions For Healthy Living 1/5/14 With a Cold Weather Recipe

Good Morning,

Sunday, and if you did not attend church last night, God expects you there today. My coffee this morning is Door County Cherry. It is extremely cold here and we are expecting record cold temperatures this week in our region. You cannot watch television without receiving tips on how to battle the cold temperatures which are predicted to reach in some places -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

God gives us instructions for living within the Bible. He gave explicit instructions about the Ark of the Covenant. And like most of us His instructions were ignored, because we either are ignorant to the instructions or do not take God seriously. God's instructions are many but do include how to survive in society, raise a family, handle your finances, how to love, how to forgive, the list goes on!
Let's take a look at what can happen when we do not follow instructions. There are and can be consequences.

1 Samuel 6:19New King James Version (NKJV)

19 Then He struck the men of Beth Shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the Lord. He struck fifty thousand and seventy men[a] of the people, and the people lamented because the Lord had struck the people with a great slaughter.

This seems like harsh judgment, but it carries with it a reminder the high cost of disobedience. Here the Israelites were held accountable to the instructions God had given them regarding the treatment of the Ark. Either they were ignorant of these instructions or they chose to ignore them. In the Bible God has given us instructions for healthy living. When we fail to  follow those instructions ( God's Plan) out of either ignorance or choice, the consequences can be devastating. Neglecting God's instructions proved fatal to this group. We might suffer like consequences when we fail to listen to God's instructions and heed His word.

Think about anger. We all know the consequences. Yet God warns us.

Example.      Proverbs 15:18
A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.

So open the Bible, then read it. Teach it to your children.
God Bless,
Marty

During this season of frozenness my wife and I like to eat stew and soup. I am sharing today a recipe that will be on the table tonight.

Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice Soup.

Ingredients

1 1/3 cups wild rice

                   Directions

    1. Cook the wild rice according to package directions, but remove from heat about 15 minutes before it's done. Drain the excess liquid, and set aside.
    2. In a stock pot over high heat, combine the chicken and the water. Bring to a boil, and then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 40 minutes, or until chicken is cooked and tender. Remove chicken from the pot, and allow it to cool. Strain the broth from the pot, and reserve for later. When chicken is cool, remove the meat from the bones, cut into bite size pieces, and reserve. Discard the fat and the bones.
    3. In the same stock pot over medium heat, saute the celery and onion in the oil for 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms, and cover. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is tender. Return the broth to the stock pot, and add the partially cooked wild rice. Stir in the bouillon, white pepper and salt; simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
    4. Meanwhile, melt margarine in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour until smooth. Whisk in the milk, and continue cooking until mixture is bubbly and thick. Add some of the broth mixture to the milk mixture, continuing to stir, then stir all of the milk mixture into the broth mixture.
    5. Mix in the reserved chicken meat and the white wine. Allow this to heat through for about 15 minutes. The alcohol cooks off of the wine so no worries. You can substitute a non-alcohol wine.
