Good Morning,
I just poured a hot cup of Door County Heroes Blend Coffee and it is time to write.
Tonight I will be partaking in an event at our church. We annually hold a steak dinner for the men of our church, their sons, and their friends. It is usually well attended. We always take time to honor our veterans who are attending. We started this steak tradition 25 years ago we had four World War Two veterans that we knew of attend and eat steak with us.
Romans 12:18 ESV If possible, so far as it depends, live peaceably with all.
Today we commemorate D-Day June 6, 1944, The name D-Day was given to this date to remember the invasion of the beaches at Normandy in northern France by troops of the United States, Canada, The United Kingdom and other countries during World War Two. France at the time was occupied by armies of Nazi Germany, and the amphibious assault codenamed Operation Overlord landed some 156,000 Allied soldiers on the beaches of Normandy, by the end of the day.
Despite their success, some 4000 Allied troops were killed by German soldiers defending the beaches. At the time, the D-Day invasion was the largest naval, air, and land operation in history, and within a few days about 326,000 troops, 50,000 vehicles, and some 100 tons of equipment had landed. By August 1944, all of northern France had been liberated, and in spring of 1945 the Allies had defeated the Germans. Historians often refer to D-Day as the beginning of the end of World War Two.
My point for today is this, before a small disagreement becomes a raging war inside the home of any couple, work setting, or church, count the consequences of what it takes to wage war on each other and seek peace within the family. A major D-day type battle will only make things worse. And it is something you will never forget nor will the rest of those involved.
Marty
