A Lunch Fit For A King 9/26/2014

Good Morning.

Friday came again this week right after Thursday. My coffee cup is filled with Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee. It tastes better than ever today. I want to apologize for missing a few weeks of the blog. Our internet service has been down and was just restored last night. I have missed writing to you.

For those of you just joining the blog or for those who don't know, I work in a hospital. I am usually very busy but I do find time to eat a quick lunch. The hospital serves good food in the cafeteria, but I tend to pack my lunch and eat at my desk.

Rene and I were blessed to have someone give us some smoked fish recently. I am very fond of smoked salmon and so is Rene. The other day I took along a chunk of the salmon and a small bread bun that we baked earlier this week for my lunch. Ahhh! Homemade bread and fish. A little coffee from my thermos and I had the makings of a delightful feast. While I was munching on the bread and fish a coworker stopped by and said "your peasant lunch looks delicious". I offered her some and she left with a little bread and salmon. I asked her later what she meant by peasant? She replied that my lunch was very simple and that although very tasty was not as elegant as what I could have had in the hospital cafeteria.

That made me think about fish and Jesus. Jesus took fish and bread and fed thousands with it. Jesus was also a social person so I imagine that when everyone sat down to eat, He ate with them.
As I pondered this, it came to mind that my lunch was fit for a King. The King served dried fish and bread for dinner. That thought alone made me remember to be thankful for my food and how blessed I was to have a lunch, let alone one that was fit for a King. After I prayed and gave thanks, I knew that not only did I eat a great lunch, but the King joined me.

Matthew 14:13-21New King James Version (NKJV)

Feeding the Five Thousand

13 When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”
16 But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”
18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Have a wonderful day.
