Be Careful What You Jump Into 9/22/2025

 Good Morning,

There is a hot cup of Door County Breakfast Blend Coffee in front of me sitting on a plate. It is time to write.

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O Mortal, what is good . And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and walk humbly with your God.

This is very late today and I apologize for being tardy in my writing. I had other appointments to keep this morning.

On Friday the house siding project was finished and I moved on to some other projects that need to be done before winter. The dumpster for all the scrap from the project is still parked in our driveway. It is kind of annoying that the dumpster has been filled during the construction process by people who have something to throw out and are too lazy to go to the town dump.

As I was working in the yard about 50 feet away from the dumpster I could hear metal being pulled around from the dumpster. A fella had crawled up to the top of the dumpster to retrieve the aluminum scraps tossed out by our contractor. He had  been reaching for certain pieces and had fallen into the dumpster. Now he was caught and I guess I can look pretty mean when I want to. Then he asked me if it was ok to take the pieces he had thrown outside of the dumpster.

I explained to him that if he had asked to have the pieces first I would have helped him retrieve them safely and he could have all he wanted. But he definitely was not coming out of the dumpster without help. I grabbed a ladder and helped the scrap crook out of his predicament. He looked at the scrap on the ground and I told him to take all that he wanted, but learn to ask for permission before he does something like that again.

I wonder what my liability would be if he had gotten hurt while dumpster diving?

Here's the point. It is best to be honest. Seek permission when needed and do not assume anything is there for the taking. Treat others and their property like you would want to be treated.

Have a blessed day!

Marty
