Hitting The Wood Pile With A Conscience 5/17/2025

 Good Morning,

The den seems way too quiet this morning as I write and sip on a hot cup of Door County Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Coffee. I have added some soft music for background sound and it is nice.

A few weeks ago we were given firewood for free. I always say "Free goes with everything I own". The logs just need to be shortened a little and then split. I started the process of cutting the logs and splitting them this week and I see the pile going down in size. I was also given some apple wood that I intend to share with a neighbor. We both like to smoke meat and dine like kings.

My wife Rene doesn't say too much about things in general, but she asked me a question about the firewood. I found it odd and I guess she has a point. "You were given this wood and you brought it home for us to burn this fall and you and our neighbor will cook some mighty fine meat. I am sure you thanked the fellas who donated wood to our cause. But in our prayer time together you never thanked God for the wood He created and blessed us with, nor did you thank God for someone who cared enough to give us wood from their property. don't you think we should be grateful to God?"

I had to do a quick memory search and I am sorry to say that she is correct. God knew many years ago that some of those trees that sprouted up, would one day warm the Schutte home. I now stand with a clear conscience and heart. I now also see the pile more of a blessing and not a chore to complain about.

One of the benefits of marriage is that you inherit a second conscience. I sit here and am also thankful to God for a wife who keeps me running on the straight and narrow.

Today my food for thought has me eating crow.

God bless,

Marty
