Stoking The Fire With A Smile 1/19/2026

 Good Morning,

My mug was just filled with Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee and it is time to write.

Proverbs 11:25 A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

We are experiencing a deep freeze of weather in our part of the world. The temperatures with the wind are brutally cold. I spent some time outside yesterday and it took a long time for me to warm up.

I participated in a hunting challenge yesterday. The teams were made up of four people. Our team did reasonably well and although it was a lot of fun, I was ready to go home in my warm truck and sit in front of our fireplace with plenty of wood to burn.

There is something about a fire in cold weather. You never have to worry about sitting there alone in our home. Our two dogs will sit right next to you and soak up the heat like there is no tomorrow.  My wife claims the chair closest to the heat and is the official person who notifies me when the fire needs another log. I usually can only sit in front of the heat for about 30 minutes and then I have to do something else.

It makes me feel good to see the three of them enjoying a warm fire. The two dogs generally fall asleep while soaking up the heat. Shortly after that I see my wife with heavy eyes. But somehow she wakes up and calls for the bearer of logs just in time to restoke the fire.

My point for today is this. Take time to enjoy the simple things in life. You might not have a fireplace, but you can drink a hot cup of hot chocolate and let it warm you up. Maybe you can share another cup with someone else. The simple things often lead to a heartwarming experience. For me, I am happy just to  have two dogs and a wife that I can stoke the fire for.

Stay warm. Love to all.

Marty
