Adding Some Extra Flavor 1/27/2026

 Good Morning,

I find myself unable to sleep so I thought "why fight it"?  In my part of the world it is 1:00AM and I am not quite ready to drink my Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee. I think it will have to wait until later in the morning.

Proverbs 18:21 NKJV Death and life are in the power of the tongue. And those who love it will eat it's fruit.

Yesterday I made a stop at a butcher market in search of a cut of meat that would be used to make Swiss Steak like my mother used to cook for us. While in this great little market I found a marinade for pork that I haven't seen on any shelves in a long time. I considered my quest for meat a success and was very happy to find a source for this marinade.

I soak the pork for a day in the mixture and then place it in the smoker the next day. In my mind the finished product is worth the work and the wait.

The marinade just adds a little extra pzaz to the meat. It made me think about daily living and how some days are just a repeat of yesterday and really not much to even mention. But as the marinade adds to the flavor of the pork, we have the opportunity each day to add some flavor to our own day and to the day of others.  Extending a greeting of friendship, or kindness makes a day sweeter. A compliment or a smile can change a grumpy attitude into a tender heart.

Friends, it is your choice as to how much flavor you add to your day and the day of others. Don't be the spice that is lost in the back of the cupboard. Be the spice that is used often and is appreciated. Tenderize the day for yourself and others.

God bless,

Marty

Down To Two Teams 1/26/2026

 Good Morning,

I started this day with prayer and a hot cup of Door County Wisconsin Cherry Pie Coffee and it is time to write.

Matthew 5:9 NKJV Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God.

Romans 14:19 NKJV Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

Yesterday in America the last two games of the National Football League decided which two teams would participate in the Super Bowl. I was able to take some time and view both games. They were entertaining and pretty good games. I wish the Seattle Seahawks and The New England Patriots both good luck and may the best team win.

I am sure that all the hype and advertising for the game has already started. My plan is to avoid as much of that stuff as possible. Game day, will find me watching the game, and commercials, and cooking something on the grill. I don't have a particular team that I am pulling for. I just have always liked football as a sport.

Unfortunately at this time in the world, several countries are at the tipping point and a large stage like the Super Bowl becomes attractive to radicals who seek to make a point with violence.

My goal for the hour of pregame hype is to have a serious prayer time for some world peace and safety.  I truly believe an hour in prayer can have more impact on the world than some cute commercial telling me what potato chip to buy.

Food for thought!

Enough To Make Anyone Angry 1/25/2026

 Good Morning,

My hot cup of Door County White Chocolate Cranberry Coffee is working just fine this morning and it is time to write.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God. 7. and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding , will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Last night at our Saturday Evening Church Service, I always give about ten minutes to let the people from the congregation speak and tell everyone what God did in their lives in the past week. It is a great way to praise the Lord and show that God is on His throne and is alive and well in church.

I always enjoy hearing what God is doing and it also keeps us aware of who just might need prayer.

Last night one of the stories was one that was hard to listen to, because it could have been worse. Two very nice people who attend faithfully every Saturday night told us how someone in a stolen car was fleeing the police and during this the crook slammed into their car. I am here to say that they survived without any major physical injuries. They also stated that the car can be repaired and that their insurance should be sufficient to cover the repairs. They praised God for protecting them from a situation that could have been worse.

My first reaction was to be thankful that we weren't planning a funeral or hospital visits. My second reaction was some anger directed toward the criminal. .

Automobile crime and deadly crashes seem to occur almost every night. Yet I don't see anyone wanting to ban automobiles. Yes, this blog is a little politically pointed this morning. Until people condemn crime in such a way as to make the punishment worse than the crime, people will continue to steal cars, drive recklessly, hurt others physically, and cause extensive damage. Or worse yet, take a life that robs a family in the worst way.

I am surprised however as to how many churches are stuffed to capacity for praise and worship, but do not attend prayer vigils or prayer meetings. How many families sit down daily together to pray and teach their children to pray. Yes, I am sure plenty families say a prayer for God to bless the dinners, but is there 15 minutes or more dedicated to family prayer?

It is a shame to say that the term "defensive driving" has taken on new importance. In your prayer time, start to go globally with your prayer thoughts. Pray for safer streets. The social excuses for crime are just that. Excusing people for the crimes committed is a weak argument for not observing right and wrong. No one  can say that the criminal did not know better.

Pray my friends. Pray!

A Thought On Piety 1/24/2026

 Good Morning,

A hot cup of Door County White Chocolate Cranberry Coffee is prying my eyelids open and it is time to write.

1 Timothy 6:6 But Godliness with contentment is great gain.

In the Bible, piety refers to the quality of being religious or reverent, emphasizing devotion to God and obedience to His commandments. It involves both an inward attitude of reverence and an outward demonstration of righteous behavior, reflecting a sincere faith and commitment to worship and serve God. Christianty.com

When I think about piety, I myself  don't see the quality as being passive within the world. I see it as an action filled character trait. A pious person is not a weak person, but a strong personality that puts God first and moves anything that would keep them from being obedient, faithful, reverrent, and sincere.

I have heard others say "Being a Christian seems boring." On the contrary. God is not boring. A life aligned with Him seems like and open invitation to join Him in His work.  And that sounds like an adventure of divine proportions.  Even a short trip to the store for groceries can be an adventure if you walk with your spiritual eyes wide open.

Food for thought. Piety is not boring.

Appreciating The Heat And Quiet 1/23/2026

 Good Morning,

The blog is late today as the author slept too long. I am enjoying a hot cup of Door County Raspberry Almond Coffee and it is really time to write.

Let me explain what happened. I was up and out of bed early this morning. When our dogs came back inside after making their potty run, I sat down in a comfortable chair and decided to rest for 30 minutes.

It is super cold outside so I added some more logs to the fire . I sat back down and the warmth of the fire reached out to my chair. Two hours later I woke up. The fire was almost out and the dogs were sound asleep in front of what was left of a robust fire.

I guess if I had been still working instead of being retired I would have been late for work. I guess God knew that I needed to rest longer than 30 minutes.

Psalm 127:1-2 NIV  Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain,

In vain you rise up early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat.

For He Grants Sleep To Those He Loves.

Have a great day. God Bless,

Marty

Only Take What You Need 1/22/2026

 Good Morning,

I just sat down with a hot cup of Door County Raspberry Almond Coffee and it is time to write.

As our country prepares for some rough weather in the next few days I find myself wondering what  type of fears people are embracing. A wintery storm which includes very low temperatures, snow and ice  is being predicted to cause some problems.

Proverbs 3:27-28ESV Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. 28. Do not say to your neighbor, "Go and come again, tomorrow I will give it."

Our country is very large and the weather on one side of it can be warm, while the other side of the country can be very cold. The problem is when the warm parts of the country also turn cold and icy. An ice storm is predicted to cause some problems in the South Eastern portion.

People in those parts are not used to icy roads, and lack of power due to the ice knocking down power lines. The news coverage has warned of shortages in supplies which has caused some fears. I was sent a couple of pictures of what the stores look like as people rushed to fill their pantries with supplies for the next few days.

I am thinking as to why should there be everyone rushing to buy items that those who can afford to have extra already should be stocked up. It seems that they aren't prepared for a disaster. I can understand that those not too financially secure might have difficulty making it through a stretch because a full pantry is a luxury that they cannot afford. So besides not being able to be contently supplied they have to contend with shortages.

My thoughts are this. If you can afford to have extra supplies on hand for emergencies you are blessed. It is best to be able to share with those less fortunate some of your excess. Not thinking ahead causes shelves to empty quickly and and panic sets in.  A few cloth diapers and some extra baby formula are hot commodities in a disaster scenario.

My point today is this, be prepared for disasters as much as you can. When buying one can of beans in the future, buy two and slowly build up your supply locker.  Spring is coming, so the yard sales will be popping up. Purchase an extra blanket or two from someone who is cleaning out their excess. Watch for sales on bottled water and store a case of it.

Be disciplined to not use your survival supplies out of laziness. Keep the emergency supplies for emergencies not for the family picnic in July.

Most of all when needing to stock up before a storm, only take what you need and no more. Your insecurities might cause a true panic for others.

There  can be tough times ahead. Why make them tougher than needed for yourself and others?

Be safe, be prepared and think of others.

Don't Slaughter Today 1/21/2026

 Good Morning,

I will be drinking my Dood County Pumpkin Spice Coffee later today, It is time to write.

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy  and find grace to help in time of need.

All too often we wake up with the same fears that we took to bed with us last night and we condemn the day ahead of us before it even really starts. We tend to slaughter today on the altar of anxiety.

Some folks are going through tough times right now. It could be health issues, or financial woes, broken relationships or emotional woes. Many people do not see relief ahead or do they allow God to carry them through from yesterday to today.  God does not always send the help or relay the message ahead of time. But it often comes just in the hour we need it. God meets daily needs daily. Place your cares with Him. Only God can deliver peace of heart.

Food for thought. Give today a chance and look up. God knows where you are.

Try Something New 1/20/2026

 Good Morning,

A day with a hot cup of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee started off with me also putting a few logs on the fire. It sure is a cold one out there.

I like trying new things that people recommend to eat. Ask me to eat Sushi and in two minutes I am late for the door. But I have tried it.

Genesis 9:3 ESV Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

However I was talking with a friend and he recommended  placing in a frying pan a cup of cooked pinto or red beans on top of  three or four very thin slices of smoked pork, Drop on two fresh eggs and cook it all until the eggs are done to your liking. He also said to drizzle a little of your favorite hot sauce on top of the dietary creation,  and for me that was Tapatio. Some shredded cheese was optional. I have to say that this recipe found it's way to a place in our kitchen.

My point is that we can all get into ruts and we become very mundane to ourselves and others. We get stuck on doing the same thing over and over again. We become stuck in habits or traditions. Trying something new before ruling it out broadens our outlooks and keeps us flexible in other situations. This world is big and God made it that way just for us. Why not sample as much of it as you can? You never know. Your new favorite food might just be a sip or bite away. Ever eat rattlesnake tacos?

God bless,

Marty

Stoking The Fire With A Smile 1/19/2026

 Good Morning,

My mug was just filled with Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee and it is time to write.

Proverbs 11:25 A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

We are experiencing a deep freeze of weather in our part of the world. The temperatures with the wind are brutally cold. I spent some time outside yesterday and it took a long time for me to warm up.

I participated in a hunting challenge yesterday. The teams were made up of four people. Our team did reasonably well and although it was a lot of fun, I was ready to go home in my warm truck and sit in front of our fireplace with plenty of wood to burn.

There is something about a fire in cold weather. You never have to worry about sitting there alone in our home. Our two dogs will sit right next to you and soak up the heat like there is no tomorrow.  My wife claims the chair closest to the heat and is the official person who notifies me when the fire needs another log. I usually can only sit in front of the heat for about 30 minutes and then I have to do something else.

It makes me feel good to see the three of them enjoying a warm fire. The two dogs generally fall asleep while soaking up the heat. Shortly after that I see my wife with heavy eyes. But somehow she wakes up and calls for the bearer of logs just in time to restoke the fire.

My point for today is this. Take time to enjoy the simple things in life. You might not have a fireplace, but you can drink a hot cup of hot chocolate and let it warm you up. Maybe you can share another cup with someone else. The simple things often lead to a heartwarming experience. For me, I am happy just to  have two dogs and a wife that I can stoke the fire for.

Stay warm. Love to all.

If I Could Go Back 1/18/2026

 Good Morning,

I just finished brewing my last pot of Door County Mistletoe Mocha and in a few minutes I will also be on the road.

James 4:14 Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

When you are a young person you never think about planning for when your grandparents or parents will no longer be with you. If I had been smarter back in the day, I would have written down some of the things they taught me. Or I would have inquired more about lessons they taught to me and noted some of the finer points.

I would have taken some time to write down a few of the recipes that I was fond of. I know for sure that I would have recorded how to make my mothers' chicken and dumplings. But we just assume there will always be time enough to get serious about going on without them.

My point is this. Death will knock on doors for everyone. Why not admit it and plan ahead with some pictures and some notes? Be sure to leave your Bible for your family and have some verses underlined. Tell them about your faith now. Don't make them wonder where you stood with God.

Share your recipes now, or notes from the family archives.  Sit down with your family and talk about "after you go". It might just make it easier when you actually do leave.

Have a great day!

Fight To Win 1/17/2026

 Good Morning.

The last of my Door County White Christmas Coffee is in the cup and it needs to be reheated. There is nothing worse than cold coffee. It is time to write.

I am keeping it short today. The weather forecast for this area has us dancing around temperatures that will be at zero or below for a day or so. In preparation for the snow and cold, more firewood was hauled in and the fireplace hearth was cleaned out. There is a pot of chicken potato soup simmering in the kitchen and the wild birds have been fed.

So my point for the day is this. Whatever battle faces you today, fight to win and remember that you do not fight alone. Take some of your circumstances and make the best out of them. And always remember God is at your side and He too fights for you.

Deuteronomy 3:22 NKJV You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Love to all!

Your Last Mistake Shouldn't Be Mine To Own 1/16/2026

 Good Morning,

I am enjoying a hot cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee. I am trying to use up all of the Christmas flavors I have in my stock before I open some non holiday ones. It is an assignment of pleasure. Waste not. Want not.

James 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a prefect man, able to also bridle his whole body.

In the last couple of weeks I have had to purchase services and supplies from several vendors. A few of my purchases came with promises of service and time expectancies. I have two now that are way overdue. Being the nice guy that I am, I have made phone calls to inquire as to where my purchases are and if I can move ahead in dropping a service before the other one starts. I was supposed to have a contract in my hands already. The next one that is hanging out there is for a product that contains a monthly subscription. I have had more contact regarding re-filling the product and as of yet I haven't received the original order.

In my inquires to where these things are in the pecking order of my frustration, my phone calls have been littered with all the things I need to do to track my order or place a new order. It seems that if I want a resolution I need to take quite a few steps on my own time.

So far they have been long on explanations and excuses but not too quick to respond with any service.

A vendor of products or service is only as good as their resolution to solve their mistake. Taking responsibility for and seeing things through for customers or clients seems to be a thing of the past.

If you promise to get back to someone give a time frame they can can expect to hear from you. If there's a mistake, don't have a policy that gives more work to the customer. Take ownership and follow through. People are pretty much forgiving folks and patient, We understand mistakes happen. But again I say you are only as good as the resolution to your last mistake.

Food for thought.

Your Total Worth 1/15/2026

 Good Morning,

The day began with prayer and a hot cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee. It is time to write.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

January, being the first month of  the year triggers a few things for me to do. I will be finishing up gathering financial statements so I can file my tax reports and plan our home budget for the year. We do a pretty good job of keeping up with the statements and  planning for the year. So it's not really too much work. I have to assess and discuss expenditures, daily and capital. Last year was tough as we had one huge unplanned expenditure for damage to our home which was not covered by insurance. This year already has put a claim on some of the dollars planned out for our home upkeep. (Capital expenses). You can't plan for every surprise calamity that comes your way.

My point is this. We are blessed to be able to even have a budget. But when I read about some people who are worth millions and billions of dollars, I could feel somewhat insignificant. But then I am reminded that my God considered me significant enough to send his Son to die for my unrighteousness. Jesus paid a huge price to keep me from seeing the gates of hell.

My significance does not come from a bank account nor the cars we drive. It comes from knowing that we are children of the King Almighty. My goal for today is this. You are not insignificant. You are loved enough to have a King leave His throne, and come to earth to die for you and your sins.

Food for thought!

Take A Short Walk 1/14/2026

 Good Morning,

I just poured a hot cup of Door County Mistletoe Mocha Coffee and I believe it is time to write.

I have actually started cutting back looking at social media and have not really missed the spewing of hatred and attacks on ideals and life choices. I do believe that at this time in the world, social media is a brewing pot for a lot of anger and misinformation.

I have instituted a short walk in my day to spend in prayer for whatever God leads me to pray for. My time needs to be more productive.

Two weeks ago I tested the waters of being interviewed during a radio talk show. The host and I were on totally opposite ends of the spectrum regarding our personal views. But after we finished we chatted offline and thanked each other for conducting ourselves in a professional and respectful manner. Our sharing of views did not change either of our opinions, but what we shared was not mixed with anger and hatred. I asked her if she felt that we both listened to each other and she agreed that we did. We also agreed to chat again soon.

So my point of the day is this. Yes, it can be done. People can disagree and walk away without vomiting anger and lack of respect for others. It is a clear path of a wise Bible passage. It's called the Golden Rule

Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Food for thought.

I Remember You And I Am Thankful 1/13/2026

 Good Morning,

I am writing very early today as I need to be somewhere also very early. I will drink my hot cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee when I return home later.

Philippians 1:3 NKJV I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.

Yesterday I generated a report for my doctor as we track how a medication is working. It has been a couple years now since I have had to report or track anything. So I jumped in with both feet and after a few struggles I had a spread sheet that would have made anyone proud.

For the longest time I avoided Excel sheets with it's many formulas. I was blessed to have excellent administrative assistants who could whip those things out in no time flat. But the last one I worked with insisted that I learn how to build them and fill them. Her reasoning was that when I retired I would probably go back to work once I was bored with retirement. She was correct and everything either ran through Excel or Google Sheets. I was so grateful that she took the time to teach me how to use them and produce them. Yesterday my thoughts turned to my friend Azeb. She herself was one of the hardest workers I ever worked with. Once again I found myself being thankful for God placing her in my path.

My point for today is this. Professionally we work with many people during the life of a career. Some of them will make an impact for good and some will be those you want to forget. Maybe a good idea would be to tell them how much they are appreciated before life sends you in different directions. After all, they are blessings sent from God.

Food for thought.

Thankful For Popcorn Machines 1/12/2026

 Good Morning,

I am wide awake and ready to face the day armed with prayer, Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee and a well rested body.

Last November I was traveling from our home in Wisconsin to Sabula Iowa to meet up with good friends to duck hunt.  On the way there we traveled through  Wisconsin and  Illinois.  What I did notice while traveling through one town was a strip of road that held several antique stores. These were some of the largest antique emporiums I have ever seen.

When I came home I mentioned them to my wife Rene and that maybe some day I would take a day and we would spend it together and tour those fine emporiums of has beens. Since I mentioned the possible excursion I have been reminded by my wife a few times of my thoughts on going there. I finally had to put up or shut up.

Proverbs 11:3 ESV The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.

So yesterday I had to pay the fiddler and go on a day trip. We always have a good time doing this, it's just that I haven't really been feeling like going. So we went and I did not grumble about going. But after a few hours and miles of aisles to walk down I was late for the door. My wife has more shopping endurance than I do. She is one tough shopper.

But that was when I was rescued by popcorn. Now every good antique shop has a table and a few chairs with soft drinks and snacks for sale. These are usually close to the front lobby. I could smell the popcorn popping in the front of the store. Like a moth attracted to a flame I was on my way. I found the source of my joy and another old guy like me waiting for some fresh popcorn and a cool drink. We both appreciated the comfortable chairs to rest our weary souls and legs.

The popcorn fostered some banter between the two of us. We had a deep conversation while seated in the lobby with our popcorn. We discussed of course "Popcorn". Then we found out that we both liked popcorn. We used to work for many years and are both retired now. We discussed the finer points of marriage because lo and behold we are both married and had some tips to share with each other.

If it weren't for the popcorn we would never have had the opportunity to discuss all that and world peace in 40 minutes. We did not exchange names, but somehow a bond that only men who like popcorn and who desire to keep their word to their wives can understand and appreciate.

My point for the day is this. Shop owners. If you want to be top notch and classy have a seating area with snacks available. People will spend more money if the other half of the matrimonial bond is content.

But men, here's the lesson for us. Whether it is your wife, kids, or grandkids, when you hint to or make a solid deal to spend quality time with them, keep your word and follow through. Too many broken promises add up to them not trusting your word. And before long they go on ahead without you.

Food for thought!!!

Searching Your Heart 1/11/2026

 Good Morning,

There is a hot cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee warming me up this morning and it is time to write.

Psalm 139:23-24 NKJV Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my anxieties; 24. And see if there is any wicked way in me. And lead me in the way everlasting.

My doctor will always ask me if I am getting enough exercise and if I feel safe in my home. I find that asking me if I am safe in my home when I am sitting right in front of her breathing and walking on my own two feet seems silly to me. But I suppose that could encompass a myriad of situations or conditions.

This last year found me fighting off Covid and then needing some testing done on my heart and lungs. I was having some pain and breathing issues due to that nasty virus. Fortunately for me, all is well on that front and I am doing much better now. I guess it is best to know what is going on in that heart of ours and be proactive on a medical response.

I believe we should also do a scan of our hearts in the spiritual sense now and then and see if we are doing things that are offensive to God and what we are harboring within. Bitterness, anger,  unchecked moral collapses, or even the slightest dishonesty are "Heart Conditions" that restrict the flow of kindness, compassion, civil responses, and failures to treat others as we would like to be treated.

If you would like to be shown the spiritual condition of your heart, Just Ask God to show you. Ask only if you are serious about making changes to and treating the infections within your own hearts. Your heart scan is yours and yours alone. Your mouth is usually reflective of what resides in a heart that hasn't had a clean sweep in some time. You might be surprised to find some serious attitudes and behaviors, offensive to God have clouded your speech and behaviors in a major way. Take the scan and see how you stack up in the eyes of God. Listen to what comes out of your mouth. Then do something about it.

Food for thought.

Just A Sandwich 1/10/2026

 Good Morning,

I am a little sore this morning from hunting yesterday. I have been restricted as to what I do because of an injury. So stepping out to chase pheasants with friends and our dogs was a little foreign to my body and I am paying for it today. My cup of Door County Jingle Bell Java is getting cold and it is time to write.

Romans 15:7 Therefore welcome one another, just as Christ, also received us, to the glory of God.

by Image n Freepik on FreepikTonight after our Saturday evening service we will be sharing in a Deli Dinner. We gather after the service every other month for some type of food and fellowship. Tonight though is the simplest of what we do. People are bringing items that you would put on a sandwich. Add some potato chips to the mix and that's dinner. It gets a little more extravagant as the year goes by.

People will stay, eat and chat with each other for about an hour after church tonight and then go home after being fed spiritually and physically. It is important that a church fellowships together now and then and especially uses that time to welcome new comers and those who if they went straight home would be eating alone. It is good for people to mix together and not always be alone.

So my point is this. If your church offers these types of fellowship, attend when you can, and bring a smile to the table. You might not need the fellowship but someone else might. Sit down and eat with a stranger or someone you only see once a week.  You just might make a tough day less tough for yourself or someone else.

God Bless

Keep In Step 1/9/2026

 Good Morning,

I am enjoying a Friday Cup Of Door County Christmas Coffee and it is time to write.

We have a lot going on in our home right now, from some house repairs, a roof that needs replacing, some health issues, and the usual busyness that surrounds my wife Rene and I.

I called for a time out and asked Rene to join me for a short time of prayer yesterday.

Proverbs 18:15 An intelligent heart acquires knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

Once we finished praying I called our impromptu meeting to order. I had a sheet of paper with all the things we are doing listed and I started on the items in my control, which includes finding new insurance coverage for our home, autos, and boat. I walked Rene through my entire list. I updated her as to where we are in the process of roofing and insurances. I also included the why's of my reasoning for making the changes I made. I explained that I hadn't signed a contract yet, so Rene could make changes if we needed to. Rene then updated me on all the appointments she makes and keeps for us.

My point for the day is this. A well informed spouse is a spouse that can stand in the gap for each other. A marriage is like a well synchronized waltz and when a dance is out of step you can see it and the flaw stands out. In a dance, a wrong step is seen and noticed but can't be made right. The mistake was made and the consequences are there for life. You can however not make the mistake again.

It is important to keep a marriage in step. It all starts with keeping God as the head of the marriage and praying together starts that dance off on the right foot and keeps it that way. Next putting each other first and being unselfish coordinates the love and willingness to share information. I always say that the best impression of a man is how well his family survives his passing. Were they equipped with all they needed to know to carry on?

My friends, life is a dance and a dance is most beautiful when it is in step. Even when the music of life isn't too good, the marriage can dance and bend to the tune without breaking.

Finding Your Way Home 1/8/2026

 Good Morning,

I truly mean that when I say Good Morning. It is my way of wishing you a great day. I have a small hot cup of Door County Mistletoe Mocha Coffee in front of me and it is time to write.

                                                                 photos-public-doman.com

I was watching a documentary about a dog who was separated by accident from it's human family. The dog ended up traveling by foot over one thousand miles and showed up at the family home. How that happened no one can really explain. Stories like that always make me feel good. I could watch videos like that for hours.

Only love could drive an animal or human to walk over a thousand miles to find and reach home.

Maybe you or someone you know has separated from their family and it isn't a thousand miles to overcome. It could be a few miles, but the separation is man made and it is pride, anger, and egos that keep the family from being whole.

As I watched the video of the dog, it seemed as if the pooch only had one goal and that was to be hugged and taken back home. The family ran to the dog and it seemed that all the family wanted was to hug their furry family member and take him home.

There were no demands or expectations. Love blotted all that out.

James 3:18 NKJV Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace, by those who make peace.

If your family is missing someone at the family table, be the first to reach out and bring that missing member home. If you are the missing one, do whatever it takes to find your way home. You are missed.

Have a great day.

Soggy Wednesday And A Crock Pot 1/7/2026

 Good Morning,

I just started drinking my hot cup of Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee and it is time to write.

This morning when I let our two dogs out to do dog business you could  feel the dampness penetrate my body as I stood in the door way  to the house. It is going to be one of those cold soggy days, with the possibility of this dampness turning to snow later today or tonight. To borrow one of my dads expressions this morning, "What will be will be, I think I will have another cup of coffee and watch the weather go by".

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

My short point for today is this. There are just some things you can't do a dang thing about and the weather isn't one of them. Yes what you get in the form of weather is what you get. But you can make the best of it. Thank God for crock pots today and good recipes. There is nothing like a hot bowl of chili on a cold damp day. Better yet, share a container with the gift of chili to someone.  Break out your favorite warm clothing. If you don't have a favorite sweater for days like this, designate one to be your comfort sweater. Try to make the best of the situation and turn your day into a blessing. I don't really like to wear sun glasses, I won't need them today! There is one in the win column for me.

Clean out the closet where you finally found your favorite sweater and maybe you will be able to find your hat. Finally take time to pray for others and yourself. Find something to laugh about. As I took my mother's crock pot off of the shelf to make some chili this morning, I can't tell you how my brother and I laughed when we were cleaning out our parents home, when we looked inside the crock pot. That's where Dad kept his cash on hand. And he was the one who always said to keep your money in the bank and a safe place!

In just around an hour into the morning, I changed soggy, into tolerable or even a little better.

God bless,

Marty

The Ever Changing Highways 1/6/2026

 Good Morning,

My Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee is hot and it is time to write, before it cools off.

My wife and I live adjacent to a bigger city than our small one. But we are connected to the rest of the world by the federal highways and some state roads. The highways are in need of some major work to accommodate the increased traffic volumes. In order to accomplish the work needed to improve and repair the roadways, there needs to be a lot of re-routing of traffic. Some roads need to be closed for long periods. Needless to say, that the ever changing lanes, road closures, and car accidents can be more than confusing as you navigate through the city. At times the automobile navigation systems are a handful to use or trust. There are daily changes and many sources of information to follow. A couple of times I ended up going where I did not want to go.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete and equipped for every good work.

For traveling through life we can be glad that there is only one source of directions. A source that never changes with the mood of the times. God's word is our infallible source of truth and guidance.

All too often the electronic navigational systems can be fooled by weather, old maps, and ever changing conditions. They can be fooled and fool you as well.

Navigating our life's directions is simple. God's word can be trusted and never fails us.  More time spent in the Bible, lessens the need for life changes due to following the wrong directions.

Food for thought.

By The Way, We All Have Opinions 1/5/2026

 Good Morning,

There is a hot cup of Door County White Christmas Coffee tending to my cold body this morning as I wait for the fire to crank up a little more.

It is a damp day and for some reason I just can't seem to warm up.

Proverbs 18:2 ESV A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

I had an uninvited conversation with a young lady and to say the least she is very passionate about her side of the fence in the political world. This young lady was parked next to me at the grocery store. During the conversation I would nod my head or answer politely if I felt I needed to answer at all. This conversation lasted about 20 minutes. As I was walking away I heard her say. "By the way" which is always a signal that there is more to come. I turned to her and acknowledged that I heard her. Since she really hadn't asked for my view but told me that my Biblical views on life were foolish and showed a lack of education. I really did not feel that spending any time bantering with her was going to profit anything. I politely ended the conversation. Truthfully, I had somewhere else to be in a few minutes. I did comment that I am praying for the state of the union and for the nation and our world.

By the way! She blew up and I do believe the name idiot was applied to me and then added some expletives that I won't repeat in writing.

"By the way" it is a sad world, when you are forced to converse, because while loading groceries into your car your Bible is spotted. And your life becomes fodder for insults.

By the way. We all have opinions and it is ok to share them, but "By the way" we need to be decent about it. It's easier to hear when someone isn't shouting in your ear.

God bless. May you all find some time to pray and enjoy some peace today.

Is A Picture Really Worth More Than A Thousand Words? 1/4/2006

 Good Morning,

I just filled my mug with Door County White Christmas Coffee and it is time to write.

In the past few years my wife Rene and I have traveled a little more than we have in the past. We have seen some beautiful scenery that had us viewing it with our mouths hanging open. The trips in our mind were awesome and each minute was filled with great experiences. We took plenty of photographs and now and then I browse through the pictures and say to myself, "that was great, but not as good as being there".

Psalm 19:1 ESV The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

A photo does not capture the conversation of the moment, nor the emotion of the viewer experiencing the view. I am not knocking photographers at all. But they really can't capture a moment and the emotions going on at the time. They do a great job, but can't take your breath away like being in the moment does.

God could have easily made the world and all of it's scenery in a cookie cutter fashion. Each country would look the same as the others. He did not have to add mountains, waterfalls, beaches, or sunsets.

But He did. And He knew what day you would be standing at a waterfall in Hawaii or in the mountains in Georgia. He knew just when He was going to take your breath away. He knew what day three cardinals would be dining near your kitchen window. He knew who you would be sharing those moments with. A picture does not capture feelings, but being there does. He knew what morning you would be sharing a pond of water with a deer and it's fawn.

Friends, take lots of pictures. But when the moment allows, spend a few minutes longer taking it in. Absorb the sounds, the fragrances, and then look and see the emotions of the others around you.

As we have traveled, I enjoy what I am seeing, but I really enjoy seeing the expressions on the faces of those I am with. They are priceless and a photo just isn't the same as the real thing.

My friends, enjoy the scenes of your life and remember Who just painted your world at that moment in time. God bless.

Well, I'll Be!!! 1/3/2026

 Good Morning,

I am writing today from my desk and drinking a hot cup of Door County Naughty Or Nice Grog Coffee.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, and show you  great and mighty things which you do not know.

Yesterday I had the privilege of taking my neighbor shopping for some new shirts. I have written before about our neighbor Mikey. Early in last November, Mikey broke his elbow. The elbow already had a rod in place from a previous fall. Before the last fall Mikey;s arm was basically fused together by the rod in his arm, Only prayer and time were going to help Mikey to even get the arm back to a steady position. Last Monday was our appointment for an elbow healing evaluation.

The x rays showed substantial healing and the ability to flex his wrist and move the arm better than before the last accident. My wife, Mikey and I gave praise to God for the extent of healing we saw. The therapist recommended that we purchase zippered shirts,  just for the ease of putting the shirts on and taking them off. Mike receives some assistance with dressing and undressing, But the improvement is amazing.

Mention shopping and my wife kicks in the shopping mode at high speed. In no time flat she told me who had zippered sweatshirts and if they were in stock.  Note, Rene never shops online. She traveled to a few stores to see  who had what.

So yesterday morning Mikey and I went shopping with Rene's plan in hand.

Due to some strokes Mikey had years ago, He is a little unstable walking at times. The little trips we take are hard on his walking energy and pain levels. While laid up, Mikey was able to get some therapy on his feet and now he is walking much better, but needs to use a cane.

Back to yesterday. After unloading Mikey at the entrance to the store, and then parking, I came back and found Mikey in front of a motorized shopping cart. He asked if he could try one out. I did not want to discourage his new found ability and courage. But with reservations I replied. "Awe, why not?"

He hopped right in and before I knew it Mikey was buzzing down the aisles in the large market. I was amazed. But then after thinking it through, Mikey has been the subject of many a prayer warriors nightly prayers. That little ability to move the injured arm more than before gave him the ability to turn the scooter cart and navigate the store obstacles. His arch supports strengthened his feet enough to be able to use the foot brake and foot accelerator.

Mikey' smile lit up the store and we were both in awe to the answered prayers.

To see Mike have more freedom made my eyes leak a little.

Later yesterday afternoon I went to bring Mikey some pheasant feathers he wanted and there he was sound asleep in his recliner. Mikey was wearing one of his new zippered shirts and the world was good!

Back To Normal 1/2/2026

 Good Morning,

My hot cup of Door County Pumpkin Spice Coffee is working just fine for me this morning and it is time to write.

Proverbs 26:17 NKJV He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing  dog by his ears.

1 Peter 4:15 NKJV But let none of suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.

Our trusted antique biscuit cutter

Starting next week in our home the Christmas decorations will slowly be coming down and then stored away until next year. Believe it or not, they are taken out and displayed in a certain order and then stored away the same way. My wife has a "decoration process."

I stay away from the process and know better than to suggest a different way. She has her methods and step by step process and so far it has always worked for her.

So here is my point. If Rene wanted my input she would ask for it. She has taken ownership of decorating our home for the seasons and holidays. It looks fine to me and she is happy with the results. So why would I want to interfere with how she does it?

Sometimes it is best if we mind our own business. Many arguments are started when we interject with these words. "Have you ever thought of??? You should do it this way!!! Try it this way!!! You could have!!  Worse yet, we should never lobby for others to comment on supporting our ideas to help win an opinion war. Those wars are best left at home  and better yet, not started at all.

Some ditches are not worth dying in. So today my friends in 2026 lets avoid the small opinion wars that break the peace and tranquility of home. If you are one who likes to always share your opinion, take a big drink of shut up juice, and take care of your own biscuits and pass the gravy.

Food for thought,

Marty

And Away We Go!! 1/1/2026

 Good Morning, Happy New Year.

An insulated bottle of Door County Jingle Bell Java will be at my side today as I head out this morning.

Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.

19. Behold, I am doing a new thing, now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

A new year has begun and as we have been doing for many years my family and I will be out hunting pheasants. Due to an injury, I can't carry a shot gun or shoot today, but I can walk along and run my dog Leo with the others. It is very cold, so I am hoping our two shooters can hit the target the first time.

I am not sure how long this tradition has been carried out, but it is a good sum of years, I am guessing it is over twenty years by now. My point for today is this. It is a new year and although pheasants in the oven is always nice, it is important for us to take a moment and pray for the start of this New Year. We will do that for sure as well as asking God to provide a safe and bountiful hunt. After the hunt we will all sit down to a feast of cheese burgers and plenty of jocularity.

Enjoy the first day of the year and don't forget to write down the correct date! Pass the mustard please.
