Cooking A Turkey 11/14/2025

 Good Morning,

My day began with prayer and a hot cup of Door County Autumn Spice Coffee I can now say that I have enjoyed all of their fall flavors now.

Psalm 133:1 Behold,  how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

It is customary in the United States for us to celebrate Thanksgiving each year in November. It is a day to be thankful for all the blessings we have received. Part of the tradition is to roast a turkey for dinner.

There are many ways to cook a turkey and the correct way to do so is to cook it the way you like it. I for one like to wrap our turkey in bacon and cover it very well. Then before I turn on the heat I pour maple syrup over the whole turkey and some inside the bird's cavity. I place the turkey into an electric roaster and cook it in the garage.

This is not some old family tradition. I saw this method of baking a turkey on a news cast many years ago and I tried it and liked it. I love bacon and anything maple.

My point for the day is in all things there can be several ways of accomplishing a designated goal. Some people fry a turkey, and I have heard of those who boil a turkey and make soup out of it. All of those different ways of cooking are that. "Just Different" We all have different ways of doing things. If what we are doing does no one any harm it should be accepted as just different. I broke the tradition a few years ago and did not serve turkey and the trimmings at all. We had an Italian dinner feast of gnocchi, meatballs, salad and garlic bread.

Accepting differences that cause no harm to anyone can be a learning experience and and a lesson in tolerance. Some day I will eat fried turkey and just because I am a fan of soup, I will boil a small turkey and try the soup method.

Tolerating differences is a good way to have peace within our hearts. I say let that peace begin with me.

Marty
