I can't believe that December is almost upon us. It seems as if 2018 traveled at the speed of light. I just poured a mug of Door County Highlander Grog Coffee. Now it is time to write.
I like to eat meat (steak) that has either been aged or marinated in spices and oils to enhance the flavor of the meat. Some marinades will assist in tenderizing some tough cuts of meat. Now what in Hillbilly Heaven does this have to do with a daily blog/devotional? Hang in there with me and we will attempt to make sense of this.
John 12:39-40 English Standard Version (ESV)
and hardened their heart,
lest they see with their eyes,
and understand with their heart, and turn,
and I would heal them.”
39 Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said,
40 “He has blinded their eyes
I see a lot of hardened hearts out there. Hearts that have stopped beating with compassion for others and are unwilling to forgive. There is a spiritual marinade that helps to soften hearts of stone. That marinade is a proper prayer life.
Prayer has been turned into some magical formula that get’s God to do what we want. Prayer is not designed to be used to give Santa Claus your wish list.
It is supposed to be a deep and intimate conversation with your heavenly Father. We must get back to that intimacy with God. We must start dealing in prayer with the realization of our idolatry and hardheartedness. Idols you say? Yes. Idols are all those things that keep you from experiencing God.
We have to stop asking God to give revival to the world and start asking Him to revive us personally. We have to see that it begins with us
Jeremiah 24:7 English Standard Version (ESV)
7 I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart
So friends this might be hard for some of you to chew today. But your heart is as hard as you choose it to be. Go ahead and soften it with prayer and time spent with God.
