I just took my first sip of Door County Tanzanian Peaberry Coffee on this nice cool morning in Wisconsin. My prayers are for those who experienced the wrath of Hurricane Michael yesterday and still are today.
Matthew 5:9 New International Version (NIV)
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Matthew 5:9 calls peacemakers blessed. The promise to the peacemakers is that they will be called "children of God". Jesus came to Earth as a human. The Son of God came to be a peacemaker. He came to save the world from their sins and give peace to the hearts of those who believe. Note the cost of that peace was His trip to Calvary and death on a cross. He paid the price for our peace of heart and mind with His body and blood.
I am not writing this to discourage anyone from being a peacemaker. I am writing to encourage you. If you have stepped up to make peace between you and someone else it might require you to give in, even when you know you are right. You might have to choke on your pride. The cost of peace is expensive to egos. In order to make peace all thoughts of revenge must disappear.
Friends if you find yourself in the role of a peacemaker and it's to help two other parties find peace with each other , don't be surprised at the cost you might have to pay to help. Staying neutral can be difficult and worse yet if you have to correct one party and not the other you might just hear about it!!!
But if peace was worth Jesus dying for, being called a child of God is worth the effort. The peace you work on might have an impact far beyond what you immediately see. Peace is to be desired over war. Peace is to be desired over broken relationships and homes. Peace of the soul is desired for those lost in sin. And if God desires to use you to bring peace, love and hope to situations, you are blessed. He entrusted some of the Father's business to you.
Go ahead and reach for heaven with your efforts to make peace. Heaven is pleased with efforts that are done in the name of Jesus Christ and you are a child of God. Help silence the canons of human battles.
Marty
