You all know how often I talk about drinking a cup of java, just like the mug filled with Door County Hazelnut Crème Coffee sitting next to me. So today I want to discuss a drink of water.
Matthew 10:42New King James Version (NKJV)
42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.
Where I live we have four distinct seasons and three out of the four help to keep our source of drinking water cold. For me there is nothing like running the water for a little bit in January and pouring myself a very cold glass of water. Water that is cold enough, it does not need ice cubes to chill it, ah nothing like it!
I remember as a child playing outside on a hot day and then turning on the garden hose and passing it around with friends drinking in the cold refreshing water that was spewing forth. That water was just what we needed to cool us off and keep us from suffering from dehydration. Going too long without water can be very serious and cause some severe illnesses. Many mission teams go out each year to dig wells and install filters to provide a drink of water to those in need around the world. If you are one of those doing this, KEEP GOING. I salute you. Water is a basic need for all people. You don't have to go too far to provide a cool drink to someone. I once had a mission team go out armed with water bottles that they could pass out on an extremely hot day to people passing by. It was a random act of kindness that was simple to do. Sharing a drink of water is one of the kindest things you can do. Give the drink and ask if there is anything you can pray about for that person. You might just find someone in need of prayer and you will be there to let them see the love of God through you.
So much can be done with a drink of water. When was the last time you walked outside on a hot day and brought a glass of cold water to a neighbor or a family member who was working out there? That simple act tells them that they were though about.
Just saying!
Marty
