The old insulated bottle is filled with Door County Candy Cane Coffee and I am off to duck hunt. I just said to myself, "Glad to be here".
Today I want to write about a couple from our church. I won't mention names as, they are ones who don't ask for praise and thanks, but they are going to get some today.
Romans 12:10New International Version (NIV)
10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
This couple is close to my age and they have been on the receiving end of some very tough times through the years. The Mrs. has had her share of debilitating illnesses and they took their toll on her ability to speak and she has some limited use of her joints. But that lady has a smile that makes my day when I see her at church. She is a prayer warrior and helps as much as she can at church. Her husband has been crippled up with a bad back and now some heart issues, yet he faithfully serves in the Men's Ministry and is key to getting guys registered for our events. The two of them have been working on setting up a cribbage tournament for a winter Saturday.
Besides their service performed through adversity, the one thing that stands out is their faithfulness in caring for each other. They have been married a long time and have stuck it out through better or worse. When one is down you just know it because you can read the face of the other one. Young people getting married never expect a road of hardship and I am sure these two didn't have all these physical issues in their plans when they first got married. But the issues came and continue to come. They rely on the Lord to carry them through and very often share praises instead of prayer requests.
Can your spouse and family count on you? Are you there for the long haul? God intended for you to be able to be counted on. We need to be that person! Think it through. Maybe times are tough and you don't see an end in sight and running away just seems to be the easy answer. No way. Someone is counting on you.
Have a great day!
Marty
