Goodbye To November 11/30/2017

Good Morning,

I will be running out of the door in a hurry this morning. My Door County Dublin's Delight Coffee with be in one hand and an orange or apple in the other. I haven't decided which one and either choice is a good one.



I was reflecting on the month of November and the many Novembers I have experienced. When I was a kid November always was the month to head North ad deer hunt. It was always partnered with visits to my grandparents and huge dinners with our relatives. It usually meant that we would see snow. Later in my teens it still meant we would deer hunt, but high school football was just ending.

As I grew older I still deer hunted but duck hunting seemed to be the way I was bent toward and eventually it won out . A few years ago I quit deer hunting to spend more time with my dog on the water.

Over the years not much has changed in my Novembers. You could say that as far as November goes my life is pretty much static. You might ask, "what does that have to do with a daily devotional?" That is a good question. In my Novembers I did not walk on the moon. Peter is still the only one who walked on water. I did not find a cure for any raging diseases. I did nothing to cause the whole world to be a peace. I did not invent anything that would make the world a better place. I do however get my snow removal equipment ready every year in November and plan a December vacation.

But here it comes. I am content with my life even though some might call it boring. Contentment is a blessing in itself. I don't find myself saying " I wish. We should have.  Why didn't we? Or, only if?"
Those phrases are not the language of a content man.

Taking Aim At The Trophy 11/29/2017

Good Morning,

Day three at school today. I am truly getting educated on a subject that I thought I knew very well. I find that I do not know it well enough. Big exam tomorrow, so tonight will be spent studying. I welcome a cup of Door County Maple Coffee to my day.



Duck hunting has been pretty good lately and I sure have had a good time out in the field and on the water with my nephew, a few friends and our dog Gibbs. Hunting ducks isn't always as easy as one would like to think it is. Your goal is always to try and come home with something for the stew pot. In order to do that you need to get up early and become sleep depraved. Then you need to hit the water either by walking or traveling in a boat. Then after you set out a few dozen duck decoys, pray and pour a cup of coffee you are ready to shoot ducks, if you remembered to load your gun.

Once the ducks fly near your decoys at the speed of sound you need to concentrate, aim your shot gun, breathe, and then pull the trigger. If your aim was right on, a duck or two falls into the water giving your dog a reason  to jump into the icy bath. The dog then retrieves the duck and brings it back to you. Easy peasy!

I can equate my duck hunting to my Spiritual life. The goal of the hunt is to hit the trophy and then cook it up.  The goal of our Spiritual life should be to grow and strive for perfection just as our Heavenly Father is perfect. We need to concentrate and Aim for this as a target. It might require some late night Bible time, an extra hour or two in prayer and a commitment to the growth.

Even At My Age 11/28/2017

Good Morning,

I woke up with my mind going a thousand miles an hour today. So I am embracing a cup of Door County Frosting On The Cake Coffee. There is a whole lot on my mind right now.



Yesterday and the rest of this week I am in school for eight hours each day. I need to take a refresher course on some technical knowledge I use for my job. It ends with a ninety minute exam. It's been a long time since I have been in school and facing an intense week like this. Yesterday was an eye opener as to how much I have forgotten about this subject. There are some new healthcare codes to know and adhere to. Argh!!! I was a real chore to learn new things.

I came away from school last night drained, wondering if an old guy still has the capacity to learn. So I went to the Good Book to see what God has to say about aging. I was encouraged to know that He cares as I read through the passages. I was lifted up and set on a path that only He knows what the outcome will be. Maybe these verses on aging will help you today. You can learn and depart wisdom.

It Started With A Christmas Tree 11/27/2017

Good Morning,

The weekend did me in. I accomplished a lot of yard work, hunted, preached and then did some Christmas shopping.  Therefore I believe my mug full of Door County Wisconsin Harvest Blend Coffee is more medicinal that just wanting a cup of java.



The day after Thanksgiving is like no other day in our house. Rene starts transforming the house into a winter wonderland. We could be accused of losing our dog in the piles of boxes scattered about the house. The place is 50% complete and she is on a tight timeline. We host Christmas Caroling for our church this coming Saturday and my gal is focused on having our place just as she wants it.

I am given one assignment and one assignment only. That one project is putting up the Christmas tree under her strict supervision. I am married to the Christmas Tree Czar. I however noticed that the one thing that Rene does before anything else is to put out our Nativity set. The set was given to us as a wedding present a thousand years ago. I spied on her and when she is done placing all the pieces in place, she places Baby Jesus last, and then says a prayer for our Christmas Caroling.

Once the tree is finished I am sent on my next project and that is to plan the food for the festivity. My wife could easily keep up our Christmas decorations all year long. She captures the Christmas Spirit the minute the Nativity set is up and she sees that tree taking on some lights. For her Christmas is all about doing things for others. But I see the twinkle in her eye at night when she shuts down the house lights and just sits by the fireplace watching the lights and listening to the music box attached to our Nativity set. The music box plays Amazing Grace ever so softly. During this time, everything is right with the world for my wife.

Sometimes I will stop what I am doing to listen with her and it's then that I know why we celebrate Christmas. It is a celebration of God's grace, His amazing grace. Care For One Another 11/26/2017

Good Morning,

The old insulated bottle is filled with Door County Candy Cane Coffee and I am off to duck hunt. I just said to myself, "Glad to be here".



Today I want to write about a couple from our church. I won't mention names as, they are ones who don't ask for praise and thanks, but they are going to get some today.

This couple is close to my age and they have been on the receiving end of some very tough times through the years. The Mrs. has had her share of debilitating illnesses and they took their toll on her ability to speak and she has some limited use of her joints. But that lady has a smile that makes my day when I see her at church. She is a prayer warrior and helps as much as she can at church. Her husband has been crippled up with a bad back and now some heart issues, yet he faithfully serves in the Men's Ministry and is key to getting guys registered for our events. The two of them have been working on setting up a cribbage tournament for a winter Saturday.

Besides their service performed through adversity, the one thing that stands out is their faithfulness in caring for each other.  They have been married a long time and have stuck it out through better or worse. When one is down you just know it because you can read the face of the other one. Young people getting married never expect a road of hardship and I am sure these two didn't have all these physical issues in their plans when they first got married. But the issues came and continue to come. They rely on the Lord to carry them through and very often share praises instead of prayer requests.

Can your spouse and family count on you? Are you there for the long haul? God intended for you to be able to be counted on. We need to be that person! Think it through. Maybe times are tough and you don't see an end in sight and running away just seems to be the easy answer. No way. Someone is counting on you.

It's The Small Things 11/25/2017

Good Morning,

Today is going to be a busy day for me. I decided to start the day off with a cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee. Complimenting the coffee is a bowl of maple oatmeal loaded with dried cranberries.

Tomorrow I plan to hunt but today I need to stay at home and knock out some chores that are a bit overdue. Rene has started decorating the house for Christmas and right now our place looks like we need an intervention for hoarding. Two days from now the old home will be ready for company.



I mentioned yesterday that I was praying for a small miracle and many of you will laugh about what I was praying for. Most of the time my life is running at a "hyper speed" pace. This week was no different. Wednesday while I was changing clothes in my office and getting out of the white shirt and tie, so I could jump in the truck and travel to Northern Michigan I placed my work keys somewhere.

Now these keys have the ability to open everything in the hospital where I work. Thursday night when I arrived home from my quick trip I started unloading my travel bag I found my ID badge, my business card holder, pager and pen. My work keys were not with them. I tore that bag apart looking for the keys. They were not there. I did slip and fall on my way into the Michigan home which already has a generous helping of snow surrounding it. My mind convinced me that I probably lost them in the snow when I fell. Somehow the keys fell out. Of course I looked through the truck three or four times and found nothing. By this time I realized that this is small to some, but huge to me. There would need to be many locks changed at work. Not good! I knew it was time to pray and ask for some help from God. I was able to sleep without tossing and turning. My thought was "maybe I left them on my desk". I knew that my Administrative Assistant had a spare key to my office. I probably left them there on the desk. I had convinced myself that if the keys weren't there I would be driving back to Michigan to sift through piles of snow. I knew where I fell.

When I arrived to work yesterday and opened my office door the keys were not there. I was very disappointed but continued to pray.  I swore those keys had legs. I came home and the Christmas decorating began and it took my mind off of the keys. Just before bed last night I was looking in the closet and staring at my travel bag. A still small voice told me to look in the bag again. This was a ridiculous idea. But I had been in prayer and I know God's voice and what could this hurt?  I picked up the bag and looked in again, felt around and there was nothing. I threw the bag back in the closet and when it landed I heard the sound of keys jingle. I picked that bag back up and shook it. Yes, I heard the sound of keys. Back in a little pocket within the bag, a pocket I never use, and really did not know was there, the keys had landed for safe keeping. I assume they landed there when I fell. My prayers had been answered.

Two lessons were learned once again. Nothing is too small to pray for. But while we are praying we need to be open to listening for God. Had I not gone to that bag one more time, it would have been an expensive issue. I would not have used that bag for a couple of weeks. It would have been too late. Listening is the other half of prayer. I have attached three Bible verses to compliment this real life story.

A Free Meal. A CSI Moment 11/24/2017

Good Morning,

Today has reunited me with some Door County Cherry Crème Coffee and a busy day at work. I need a small miracle today and I am in prayer asking God to grant my request. More on that tomorrow.



Yesterday as my nephew and I were returning home from Upper Michigan we experienced something out what can be considered normal. We went to Michigan to winterize my Dad's home and we took very few food items with us. Our work was to be crisp, quick and then hit the road for home. We ran into a couple of things on our chore list that just did not go as planned. Nothing major, but it bit into our time expectations.

But soon after we endured the delay and solved our little problem we were on the road, in our trucks and headed home. I mentioned food items. We had a Kringle and some Coke with us. This sufficed for a quick breakfast and then we set sights on our chores and we started to work.

Now yesterday was a holiday in America and I was glad to see that many of the businesses were closed. We were convinced that we would be eating some beef jerky from a gas station and washing it down with a Coke. But as we came into one small town we saw a parking lot full of cars at one of the restaurants on the main drag. I pulled the Old Ford into the lot and my nephew followed me in. Once we were inside the food emporium we were greeted by the owner. He smiled and said "you will receive a free turkey dinner today." I said this. "Free?" The owner  replied, "yes the large turkey dinners are free for everyone today. I am thankful for all of our customers. You sit down and I will get you your free meals". I tried to tell him that we couldn't accept a free meal because we were just passing through. We are not regular customers there and could more than afford to pay for our meal. This fella was not going to hear any of what we had to say and he insisted we sit like everyone in there and have a free meal and enjoy ourselves.

The turkey meal was fantastic and we just were amazed that we were being treated to such a nice gift.
We left a tip that was substantial. and departed. Now I began to think this through and remembered that we prayed about our chores and also asked for God to watch over our travels. We were super tired and both a little melancholy as we left the lake home that used to have two people waving goodbye to us as we left. We were both missing my late parents. So as I pieced the free meal puzzle together, I had a CSI moment. We were tired. In order to eat the meal we had to sit for 45 minutes and rest. The turkey dinner was much healthier than anything we would have found in a gas station. We left refreshed, full and happy because of the owner and how nicely he treated us. We both made the six hour trip home safely and once I was settled in, I realized that God took care of us from resting, to dining and then safely to a couch.

He Spoke Compassion 11/23/17

Good Morning,

Missing my cup of Door County Cherry Creme Coffee today. Tomorrow things will be back to normal.



Today in America we are celebrating Thanksgiving.  I for one have many things to be thankful for. I am blessed with a loving family and a wonderful dog. I have a good job and we belong to a church I love. My friends are all special people and I am more than blessed to have them. Many Americans will.be sitting down to a turkeydinner today which is customary for us. Our turkey is always wrapped in bacon and covered with maple syrup. I am very thankful for all that we have to eat.

There is one thing that is really on my mind. I am thankful that Jesus taught us to be ambassadors of compassion.  Jesus set the example for us. While suffering excruciating pain after being nailed to a cross, Jesus spoke words of compassion to the thief next to Him and later took this thief to Paradise.

Jesus put the feelings of this thief ahead of His own agony. How far would we go for a stranger? It makes me wonder just how far any of us would go, if at all.So today when you are counting your blessings ask God to give you the same compassion that Jesus possesses.
You just might make a difference for someone.

Closing The Lake Home 11/22/2017

Good Morning,

The day has begun with prayer and peace of mind. My mug was just filled with Door County Dublin's Delight Coffee. My mind is set in motion for the day and my heart is in tune with my mind.



Tonight I will make a six hour trip to Northern Michigan to close up our Dad's home for the winter. Dad left this world a year ago and the home is up for sale. I will be meeting two people who have placed an offer to purchase the home. So for me this will probably be my last trip to the house where our parents lived since 1986. There are a lot of memories in that place and the trip will be bittersweet. The lake home is just too far away for us to keep and the common sense thing to do is to sell it to people that will love and enjoy their time on a beautiful lake. I will carry in my mind the view of the lake in the fall from the deck forever.

There comes a time when you can't follow emotion but need to use common sense even when it is a pill that isn't easy to swallow. Of course the decision to sell was prayed for and I personally have peace about our decision.

One of the gifts that God has equipped all of us with is the ability to make sound decisions with common sense. The one thing that gets in the way of common sense is emotion. Emotion can cloud our vision of the truth and sense of direction. We pray and have the answer to our decisions and then we let emotion place a cloud over what should be easy choices. If God leads us to it, He will lead us through it.

Old Time Radio 11/21/2017

Good Morning,

I want to get to the kitchen for a hot cup of Door County Maple Coffee and a Honey Crisp apple. I foresee a busy day ahead of me and the apple will be a good way to kick start this guy. Nothing like fresh fruit to push you through the day.



In our kitchen we have an old time radio that we purchased at least twenty years ago. It still works and every now and then I tune in radio station and play it for awhile. I want to tell you that I am a radio type of guy. I prefer listening to baseball games on the radio. Football games make me use my imagination as I follow the radio announcer's broadcast. Radio is for me!

I especially like listening to Christian sermons on the radio as I drive. I like them best at night when I am on a long trip. I tune into some of the greatest preachers you could ever want to listen to. Compared to our computer and digital televisions the two old radios we own are low in technology. There is nothing special about them except that they, like, their owners are antiques.  They both have experienced a lot of history yet they deliver a clear message. They are still usable.

The lesson to be learned here is for young and old alike. To the young folks, value the wisdom of the older folks in your life. Sit by them, listen and learn. Now you older folks, remember, you have the experience and years of wisdom. Let the younger folks approach you, sit with you and learn from you. It is your duty to share. And my old friends, listen to the younger folks also. They can teach you things that they know about. What they have to say might be amazing. Place value on one another.

When Words Get In the Way 11/20/2017

Good Morning,

Monday came in like a locomotive on the wrong track and out of control. Where did the weekend go?
I just poured a cup of Door County German Chocolate Cake Coffee. No need for breakfast, as the Sunday dinner ran late and I am still full of pumpkin pie. Time to write!



I will never tell anyone not to pray. No, that would be against everything I believe. But there is a time when words get in the way of true action.

When we decide to pray for someone who has a specific need and we are aware of it and could possibly help, and then we tell that person, "Let's pray about it". We allow words to get in the way of helping. Our words hold us up from getting something done that is tangible and can be measured. Parents will often lecture, and then lecture again when what is needed by a child is a hug. Our words get in the way. We can take action and then pray for the needs of a person.
 
 Be careful when you choose the words you are going to use. The words you chose might just add red tape to an easy process. Sometimes we just talk too much. Can I get an amen?

November Blessings And A Harvest 11/19/2017

Good Afternoon,

My Door County Wisconsin Harvest Blend Coffee is ancient history now. I was out of bed and gone long before daylight and did not have internet access on the river where I hunted with my sidekick /nephew Nick and our trusty Springer Spaniel Gibbs.



For us hunting is a sport, but yet what we shoot and harvest always ends up on the dinner table. One of the keys to us being able to hunt is that we always remember to pray before we start. Our prayer is always for safety, our families and God's will to be done whether we shoot anything or not. There are plenty of times when we go out and the wild game does not come home with us to be eaten at a later date. But I always believe that I have harvested and was successful even when the game bag is empty.

Here is how that works out. I harvested time in prayer with God. I harvested good coffee and the occasional cookie or donut. I harvested spending time with our dog and seeing him sit with anticipation, waiting for game to come our way and then spring into action, retrieving the game for us. I harvested time spent with my friends and family, who I love and respect. So when we do get blessed with a duck or a goose I have already received a blessing just by being there. I watched my nephew shoot a duck today and I let my mind go back to the first time he hunted with me. He was just a tike and we ate gummy bears, I had to hold him when he tried shooting a shot gun and he peed on my duck calls because they hung too low on a five year old kid. That is just one memory I have harvested.

Brinner 11/18/2017

Good Morning,

The day is rainy and cold. This is prefect day for a duck hunt with an insulated bottle of Door County Wisconsin Harvest Blend Coffee along for the ride.



Tonight after our Saturday evening church service the attenders will be siting down to Brinner. Affectionately known to all of us as breakfast for dinner. It's not the food that has me smiling in anticipation of the night. The Brinner will be held after we all worship God together and that my friends is the number one reason I am going. Secondly, the Brinner will be an extended time of fellowship with my church family.

When I look at this through spiritual eyes I see us simulating the early times of the Apostles. We will worship, fellowship, and then scatter to our homes. But all will be fed spiritually and physically. I believe French Toast and eggs are always better when you are eating with those you love.

Don't Forget To Charge The Trimmer 11/17/2017

Good Morning,

Happy Friday to you all. The aroma of fresh Door County Maple Coffee has filled the house this morning. Let's get this day started and head into the weekend.

Yesterday I wrote about the coffee missile that attacked my nose. Today I will attempt to explain the other dumb thing I did this week.



I can't remember not having a beard and it has been a long time since I have been without one. But as all good wives should do from time to time Rene mentioned that my beard was getting a little "scraggy" and it was time to trim it up. So as all good husbands will do I retreated to a mirror with my hurt ego and pulled out the rechargeable beard trimmer and started to mow the forest on my face.

I was running short of time to get to church and I cannot be late for that appointment. So as I was half way through the whisker harvest, the trimmer which I forgot to charge ran out of stored energy. That baby was dead as dead could be. It is an older brand that takes about a half an hour to get charged up, and it was 30 minutes I did not have. So out came the razor, brush, and mug. So instead of trimming I ended up shaving the whole thing off or had the choice to go with half of a beard. Not an option!

Here's the lesson for the day.  In our spiritual lives we run the risk of making mistakes or performing half heartedly if we do not recharge daily. This is done by steady prayer and time spent with our Bibles. We renew our minds and hearts and we need to recharge daily. Thinking that I had one more trim in a depleted battery caused me to look foolish and then I had to make a recovery move.

So don't let that spiritual charge run down to where it takes too long to recharge. It's a war out there and a dead battery could lead to harm.

Hot Coffee Up The Nose 11/16/2017

Good Morning,

The day has begun with prayer and some Door County Cherry Crème Coffee. I packed some apple juice and two large apples for lunch. I have the makings of a great day all laid out for me.



I had two weird things happen to me since last Sunday and as embarrassing as they are, there are messages within the events that we can learn from. The blister in my nose won't let me forget this one. The blood that comes out of my nose when I sneeze reminds me of my foolishness.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I like my coffee extremely hot. The fast food store kind of hot. The kind of hot that lawsuits are made of. So in the morning when I am filling an insulated bottle with coffee, I boil the coffee before I pour it into the bottle. This assures me that my coffee will be steaming hot all day long. I then pour some of the java into my vehicle travel mug and drive to work.

The other day I went through my normal routine and it was then time to go to work. Both coffee vessels were filled with extremely hot liquid. I had my coffee mug in my hand as I was backing out of the driveway. I was just taking a drink of the morning wake up juice when our Jeep rolled over the curb to our driveway. This caused the Jeep to bounce just enough to launch a steaming hot missile of coffee into the air and into my right nostril. The boiling hot coffee went right up inside my nose and caused instant tears in my eyes. I thought I was going blind it hurt so bad.

So the lesson is not the obvious one of not driving with a hot liquid in my hands. The lesson is this. When we play around with hot things we run the risk of being burned. Certain things in this world are hot beds of trouble and should be avoided at all cost. Lying or telling untruths would be one of those hot ones to avoid. Lie long enough and often enough and you will get burned by your own untruths. The results of being caught in a lie will sting.

Put down the mug and think this one through. Food for thought.

The Next Revival Starts With You 11/15/2017

Good Morning,

I am a little tired this morning. Sleep eluded me for some time last night and it is having an impact on me this morning. So up the stairs I went with a cup of Door County Candy Cane Coffee in my hand and a prayer on my lips. Time to write.



I look at this world and there are times when I can't see any hope and my immediate prayer is for Jesus to come back this very moment. But in times past, the Holy Spirit moved across the world and revival broke out and transformed hopelessness into hope. This world needs a revival once more. God has laid it on my heart to pray for one.

Revivalism is increased spiritual interest or renewal in the life of a church congregation or society, with a local, national or global effect. This should be distinguished from the use of the term "revival" to refer to an evangelistic meeting or series of meetings (see Revival meeting).

But as with every fire, it is a small spark or flame that produces a fire. We all need to look within at the flame which burns inside of us. This is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in all believers. But we tend to keep the flame burning low and would rather not get involved with the lives of others. We need the revival to start within us and flame the desire deep inside to work with God to reach the world through Jesus Christ and His sacrificial love.

A fire cannot start without a spark. A revival starts with one person after another who is sold out to Jesus Christ and reaching a lost world. Look around you and read the eyes of people. There are eyes without life, for they see no hope. Look around you and you see people practicing lawlessness for they have lost hope and their own conscience. They lack a personal relationship with God. They need a Savior to redeem them from the sin that so easily ensnares them. We need to have that spark light a fire inside of us, the fire of one who cares.

So as for me and my house. We will serve the Lord.

Stand Still And Wait 11/14/2017

Good Morning,

I can hear a train coming down the tracks near our home and it's horn clearing the railroad crossing. The kitchen is filled with the aroma of my Door County Frosting On The Cake Coffee. This is a good time to write.

13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.

These words are the command from God, for all believers when they are faced with dire straights and huge difficulties. There is no retreat or a wide run to the left or to the right. Our God and Lord gives a direct command and it would be well for us to obey. We are on the edge of the diving board of life and God wants us to stand still so we don't fall.



At the same time there is another voice named "despair" that says "run, retreat, go back to your old worldly ways. You aren't going to cut it as a believer in God. You will never be a good Christian. So why even try?"

This would be the way of a coward and does not align with what God had in mind when we place our trust in Him. We need to walk by faith not by sight. What we see might cause us to fear immensely. When we walk by faith and place our trust in God, we see Him walking with us and before us.

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Satan uses the lies of fear and despair to try and convince us that the worldly life is better than facing trials with God. Can you imagine facing trials without Him?

Some of you have just faced a huge trial or are going through times of despair right now. God is with you, won't leave you, and will lead the way. Hang on and let Him help you stare down trials and despair. He does His greatest work when we wait on Him. Trust in Him to carry us through and then He shall bring it to pass.

Hibernating Through Life 11/13/2017

Good Morning,

The mug sitting next to me is filled with Door County Maple Coffee and that seems to be just what I wanted and needed.



We have quite a few black bears here in Wisconsin and as most all bears do, our black bears eat all spring, summer and fall. They put on weight and then when winter comes they go into a den or hole and hibernate though winter. During hibernation the bear's body temperature will drop and they reside in a dormant state,

Many people would love to have the life of a bear and hibernate through life. They desire to hole up and avoid others. They figure that if they let their life go dormant, they won't have to face problems. But like the bear who made his home next to the skunk, although he slept through winter the skunk was there in the spring to harass our bear friend. His life went dormant , but he still had to face his issue.

Now if by chance the skunk moves on during the bear's hibernation, he won't know it until the spring season. When we hibernate and do not face our problems, we might miss out on seeing What God has done for us.

Let's make sure that we all are spending enough time working on our relationship with God. We don't want to hibernate and miss what He is doing.

If Jesus Were A Love Song 11/12/2017

Good Morning,

As my Dad used to say. " Rise and shine. It's daylight in the swamps." My day started with a cup of Door County Dublin's Delight Coffee, some prayer and ride in the Old Ford truck.


I listen to my share of Country Western Music and a lot of the tunes are love songs that strike at the heart. But most of them have a theme of a broken love, someone was left for another, all the money is gone, or I'll just drink until I forget.

Now if Jesus were a love song, the theme would be of everlasting love, sacrifice for others, eternal hope, sharing, caring, support, a light in the storm, friendship, guidance and family.

No break up, no broken hearts, or drunkenness would be in the love song of Jesus.

The melody would be one that stays in your head and you want to hear the tune over and over again.

As a matter of fact, I could use a love song today and that song will be time spent with Jesus.

Veterans Day 11/11/2017

Good Morning,

I am getting this day started with a hot cup of Door County White Chocolate Cinnamon Dolce Coffee. The temperature outside is getting colder and we are preparing for the freezing weather that is on our door step. I just placed my order for some holiday coffee flavors from the Door County Coffee Company. Look out holidays here I come!

 
Today in America we honor our veterans. For me the veteran closest to my heart is that United States Marine I call Dad. This old warrior always saluted the flag, said he would be ready to fight again, and faithfully served at every funeral for the veterans who passed on in his area. I guess he never really stopped serving.

Dad liked a good steak with fried potatoes, doesn't mind Spam, and enjoys his coffee. Until he  stopped hunting, always shot his deer with one shot, right in the neck. He believed that if you are able, you should work. He also believed in sharing with those who can't work. That's our veteran.

But as with all veterans that I know, they don't want much from those they fought for. You might not even know a veteran but they all called you FRIEND. I guess that is what they desire most and that is to be acknowledged as "Friend". They all laid it on the line for us. Say thanks today and consider them your best friends.

Lessons From The Mailbox 11/10/2017

Good Morning,

Thank you Lord it's Friday again. I awoke to a heavy frost this morning and it is most welcome. My cup of Door County Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend Coffee it a perfect match for the cold morning air.




I want to use a mailbox analogy to make a point this morning. This mailbox blog has been on my mind all week. This is our mailbox. I took the photo last night. I can still remember digging the hole and mixing the concrete in 1994 to install the timbers that support the box.

Rich and poor have this in common:
    The Lord is the Maker of them all.

But what can we learn from a mailbox? The mailbox is on duty 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It has always done it's job without complaining about the weather. It never gets a day off. It stays right there and waits for mail. Now the mail it accepts varies in content. On some days Mr. Mailbox accepts some birthday cards or Christmas greetings. Every now and then it receives letters from loved ones. It has to put up with advertisements that go right to the trash without anyone reading them. Then the guy has to accept bills which no one likes or notices for jury duty. Now and then it receives sad papers like death certificates or bank statements showing major losses. Now and then he gets to receive small gifts or catalogue orders which are happy days. The newspaper holder hangs with  the mailbox ,sponging off of the pole that was dedicated to him. He has to share with a freeloader.

But here's the lesson. Good news or bad news, riches or losses, happy letters or sad letters, the mailbox takes them all in and treats them all the same. He keeps them dry and protected from severe weather. He holds them together sometimes for an extra day or two. He doesn't reject the sad or bad. To him they are all important and they are treated with care and dignity. He doesn't see anything more special about one letter over another letter. He doesn't discriminate and treats each item that he touches the same. He doesn't hold a grudge against bills. He takes them all in despite the pain they bring.

Do we show favoritism? Do we discriminate and walk away from those who need shelter, but just aren't our cup of tea? What kind of mailbox are you?

How To Be Attractive 11/9/2017

Good Morning,

This day looks to be a busy one, but that just makes the day go faster. To start the day I need some prayer time and a cup of Door County Wisconsin Blend Harvest Coffee. Now it's time to write.



People spend a lot of money to improve or alter their appearance. Billions are spent on cosmetics and plastic surgery. All of this is done to be more attractive.

Have you ever wondered how some folks just seem to attract others like moths to a light on a dark night? Have you ever wondered why some people are sought out in a crowd and you need an appointment just to speak with them?

It's not because they wear fountain of youth cream. It's not their new shiny dental implants. It's not anything physical at all. If you want to be considered attractive, be kind. Kindness is an attractive quality.

These are the people who say hello to you first. They greet you with a smile. They extend a hand in friendship first. They are the ones that shovel your snow long after you are asleep. They are the ones who remember your birthday. They are always complimenting others and giving encouragement.

They share what they have without being asked. They live to bless others and are never tired. They seem to find another ounce of energy when they need to help.  They offer to watch your kids so you can rest or get some time away. Kindness is attractive.
