A Well Kept Secret 4/9/2022

 Good Morning,

The old mug is full with some Door County Sweet Clementine Coffee and it is time to write.

My wife Rene and I haven't been married for 1000 years for nothing. It would be considered a waste of time if during our wedded longevity if we hadn't learned a few things along the way. One of the best kept secrets about marriage is something that every couple should know before committing to marriage. This simple thought is most important.

In pre marriage counseling it should be stated that in a marriage both people will make mistakes, get crabby, and not always are we the picture of perfection. There will be days when that person you have been attracted to and are going to spend the rest of your life with isn't all that lovable. I would like to tell everyone that the pre marriage infatuation can last past the occasional bad days by just putting into practice this next Bible verse.

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ Jesus forgave you.

If we follow this advice in the small offenses of life we will have readied our hearts for the days of a bigger offense.  The secret needs to be shared that married life is not one big bowl of sweet cherries and life slips in a tart radish or two. A better kept secret is that you can ride out the pits of life with these three little party favors.

BE KIND. BE COMPASIONATE. FORGIVE ALWAYS AND FORGIVE EVERYTHING.

Food for thought. Are you kind in all your actions toward your spouse? Are you still kind when they have a bad day? Do you show compassion when they fail or are hurting? Do you forgive even when it doesn't make sense? No one is perfect so we shouldn't expect perfection. We make a marriage perfect when we practice these thoughts.

God bless,

Marty
